Good news all round guys, keep it up
It takes time for the textures to generate as they're unique for each planet.
Michael
Taking a closer look there appears to be a few things going on. The first is a one off frame drop as you approach a planet for the first time, this is the shader building. For the latest nVidia driver this should now be cached, but is a driver rather than a game thing. When your approaching after that initial point is the texture generation and that is primary controlled by the detail settings - they're quite beefy so dropping the detail settings may well help you. There does appear to be a third issue that I don't quite understand and we'll investigate further.

You've not made a particularly compelling case Granite. There are barely any differences between your two comparison images. Why not show Michael that all planets are glowing blobs (whether they have any starlight falling on them or not), until they are fairly close? The draw distance slider in the graphics menu only seems to effect ship/station models. I'd like to a slider for draw distance on planets, but hey, there are bigger fish to fry right now.
Hi Michael!
I created a thread on this subject. I tried a number of different ways to improve the issue. https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=102461
The poll indicates a high percentage of commanders experiencing the issue.
In the graphic settings, there is only medium and high setting for me under textures. Is there a way to set them to lower manually in xml files so as to help with the stutter?
Let us investigate and we'll get more information.

What about the issue concerning all the AI appearing as 'Harmless' when you enter an area previously "started" by another player?
When entering an 'area' (such as supercruise, station perimeter, nav beacon, USS, etc.) that has been previously 'started' by another player all the AI's ranks appear as 'Harmless' regardless of their actual status.
After some testing with a friend I have confirmed that:
a) either the player who entered the area first (I assume 'created' it);
b) or the first player to 'encoutner' them can still see their true ranking.
In either case, for the other player they always display as 'Harmless'.
This has been noticed through multiple observations in controlled and random situations, in Open Play as well as Private Group.
Do you get a stutter from the rotating station displayed in the start menu, the rotating ship model (as the game is loading) as well as the in-game FSD jumps? I have all of the above, even with 12 Gig of Ram, 2 Gig of DDR5 video-card memory and an i7 processor![]()

Funny thing happened as a result of the update. Now all the landing docks are highlighted at the same time. I dont know if this is just the cigar station I am currently at or what, but it would be nice to ONLY have your destination landing pad lit instead of the whole lot. That said, everything is better than nothing.
