Blocking players in Open play sucks...

Do you seriously believe you can keep people out of your system? Do you even know how the instancing works here? I bet you there are a LOT of other people flying in and out of 'your' system (what a joke) that you never even see even though they are sitting right next to you on 'your' landing pad. You keep trying to lock people out of content, while i giggle at your vein efforts.

Of course he doesn't! It's called imagination, role-play, a little added spice to make the universe seem to be a tiny bit dangerous!

Holy moley people, get serious!!

You do know the Doctor isn't a real person don't you?

Shut your lying mouth!! D: of course he is! LALALALA I DON'T HEAR YOU!

But in seriousness

I do agree with this. I love seeing that kind of interaction and role-play (if that is what this was)...thus Why I so want to drop in to say hi.

OP has every right to tell other players he sees to stay away or be attacked. He just won't be able to enforce that reliably. Which is good.

Edit: For clarity, I should maybe add that two people in the same instance disagreeing on the visibility of a third ship does indeed sound broken.

I suspect this is the crappy MP system they set up letting you down OP. It's quite possible to see different ships from each other, clans have reported the issue on the forums before and it needs to be fixed ASAP. I want to play in OP but I can't because my friend and I can NEVER see each other so we have to play in Group - ridiculous! There aren't even any players near where we are!

I think he meant to say it blocks comms only (voice and text) and not instancing with the blocked player.
.
What is reported by the OP is therefore a bug and should be ticketed.

The reason he was instanced with the OP and the OP could not see him is the blocking mechanic, if the friend was also on the blocked list then they both would not see him and both would probably NOT be in the same instance as that player...

That is my understanding of the blocking mechanic and blocking people is there to allow us to 'reduce' the chances of being instanced with a player who we block but it was clearly stated in a previous thread back in beta that it won't be guaranteed to completely work if a blocked player is friends with an unblocked player in the instance... or if the blocked player is friends with someone else on your friends list and is in the same instance with that friend...

Which is an obviously badly thought out mechanic (again) by FD. So now we have an instance where different people see different things which kills immersion. We also have a mechanic let lets players just block out people they want - imagine this in BF or COD!! (neither of which I play anymore).

And of course this could NEVER be exploited, could it in say, clan wars "Block every player except Y...*kills him/her*...."Ok now unblock player X". Even if it doesn't work like this, you could block players to the point where it's 2 on one say.

Even if it's not exploitable, it's still beyond anything.

Yes you are right, so what is the point of claiming a system? It is useless, it only gives the guy claiming it a good feeling, nothing more.

And what's wrong with getting a good feeling ?

Did people not see the reply from Michael telling you how it works?

We did. But you have to admit Michael could use some help in making his statement a little bit more clear ;)

No - it blocks the player blocked player communicating with you.

Michael

That looks like you made a bit of a hash of it.

What does blocking do ?

-Blocks the player from communicating with you ?

-Blocks the player from your game/instance ?

-Both ?

Guy he was replying to said it's supposed to block people from being in the same instance as you, to which Michael said no.

So I think he meant blocking is only intended to block communications and not matchmaking.

According to the design docs it's suppose to make it less likely you will be placed in the same instance but who knows what it actually does...

That was always my understanding too, and that he started his reply with "No" seems to confirm that alright.

It still would be nice, if MB could edit the confusion out of his post, so that we could use it for future reference....else the "myth" that it's anything else but a "chat ignore" feature will carry on.

And if it's not a myth, i'd like to know too.
