Thanks for all the fish

Ouch - I feel your pain - I hope you give it a week or so and dip back in...

I've flown (knowingly) without insurance a few times to maximise my profit on a very new T6 - proper 'sweaty palms' flights they were!

I did this in my Asp with a full load leaving an outpost, boosted right into the floating turret thing. Sucks, but if you were up to a clipper you should really have known to not fly with that much. You basically saw the sign that said "CAUTION HOT", watched other people walking in and burning themselves on it, then decided to put your hand on the stove anyway.

I honestly can't fathom getting to that point where you have a decked Clipper, 3m in cargo, no insurance and then DECIDING to go bounty hunting? I understand one of those decisions, but all of them? Sorry man, it sucks, better luck next time.

Like I said in the other thread, FD needs to implement a toggled in-game warning about not having enough insurance coverage. This is happening way too often.
press 4, go to status... Voila! Your Re-buy cost is clearly displayed. We don't need idiot lights. What we need is a module that gives people common sense.

But killed by a nav beacon? I mean how ridiculous is that. A nav beacon shouldn't destroy a freak'en ship when hit, especially a large one.

I don't think I did. I had used it accidentally once in the beginning when I managed to destroy a hauler. It covered the cost. I went in the red and paid it off eventually. I haven't had a similar mishap since and didn't realize there was anything I had to do. I guess I assumed that if the worst happened, I would owe a galactic loan shark a few million and then work to pay it off. Had I known I would certainly have had proper insurance sufficient to cover the ship I've spent the last month working to get. To say I feel stupid currently is a mountain sized under statement.

thats the problem, the game is to easy and not enough challenging, you should have lost your ship countless times on your way up, that way you by now had learned what insurance is and what it does.

ED right now is like a Drug, it carebears you on the whole way up, then BAM sets you on rehab instantly. its a massive design flaw in the game.

but I can't accept losing the last month of progress.

It is good that it happened to you now because the pain will teach you to have enough insurance always...
Imagine, you would not be dead and get somedays Conda - with no insurance (because you did not learn this hard way)

P.s. : Clipper + Palladium is nothing, not even 1/2 of some modules for Python, Conda or T9

Your vitriol is unappreciated. I was unaware.

I was ignorant to the specifics of the mechanic. I didn't realize there was anything required of me. I could have bought it many times over i guess.
Press 4, status... Voila! Ship re-buy cost. Imagine that? Why does this have to be re-explained? Don't you people take the time to at least check your status before undocking? Or do you just bumble out into space in a rush without even stopping to checking to see if you insurance is up to date.

Try that with an asteroid. Some are the same size as the nav beacon. If you are speeding towards it at a high velocity then it will cut through you like a hot knife through butter. Also the Clipper doesn't have the best shields either.

As someone who had lost about half a dozen Asps, sometimes fully laden with precious metals, in silly flight accidents in Beta, I sympathise with the OP.

But you can find some way to get your gaming mojo back quickly in this game. You got there from less than what you have now, you can get back there again. :)

240 palladium = 3Mill. So that will be him pirate hunting with a size 3 shield and no cell banks.

Nope. Was probably 2.something worth of palladium and a few hundred thousand credits left. My rebuy was 2.1mil +. 1.6m C6 shield. Fully loaded. was working toward 8million cred reinforced hull as every other component was 1.5m +

make sure it wasnt a bug. i've run into beacons before at a nav point and it barely did anything. really no worse for wear. put in a ticket to support. ask them to look into it to make sure it wasnt a freak accident/bug.

i've had a few close calls where i made stupid decisions. I once come out of supercruise and was so close the the station i clipped it and barely survived.

while the decision to stop and fight pirates was poor you survived it fine it seems so like I said. enter a ticket and ask for it to be looked it.

I'm not going to pile on all the people calling you stupid because you didn't know. If you didn't know, you didn't know.

However, don't underestimate what you DO know. Starting over would be much easier and faster this time, armed with the knowledge of how to earn money properly.

I didn't fully understand the insurance mechanic

Your remarks are uncalled for

Well done - I thought simply trading with no insurance was asking for it.

But WHAT? REALLY?

Tricked out Vulnerable Clipper, with weak or zero shields, 3 Million cargo, Bounty Hunting and no insurance.

To be fair I am not calling him stupid. I am saying he made a poor choice. Common sense! Don't give me that crap you didn't know. That kind of garbage is what people say after they plow through an intersection and hit someone then say afterwards "Oh, I didn't see that stop sign." It is easy to find your re-buy cost. Press 4 takes you right to your status panel. Go to it. Bang! Ship re-buy cost. If you chose to ignore this or lacked the common sense to understand it was there all the time you faced the consequences for your actions.

Tough break. Happens to the best of us. Get back up in the saddle and keep riding. But this time look when you come to that intersection again.
