On behalf of pirates everywhere...

I only play open to try and make friends. Otherwise I stick to solo. No reason to encounter Dbags trying to hustle me for my cargo. Or the obvious griefer just out to blow up my ship for a cheap laugh at my expense.

And thats the main problem. The insurance costs are a real problem for open play... As a trader I don't mind loosing a Cobra when I am trading rares because of the moderate rebuy costs. But the loss of a Type 9 (without any upgrades) costs you already 4 million (5% insurance as a normal buyer of the game). With upgrades your at 5 - 6 million, if not higher. Many players don't risk loosing such a ship and the whole cargo (profit) on top. They are trading in solo mode and go to open play when they want to do bounty hunting with their viper. The players trading in open play on the other hand are more often a victim of the pirates, because their number decreases. They get frustated and play in solo mode when their first ship has been destroyed by an idiot who shoots at them on sight and so on and so on... At some point, only a few players trade in open play and the universe feels empty.

So why not decreasing insurance costs for trading/transport vessels (Type 6 / Type7 / Type 9)? Thus many traders will risk trading in open play because they cannot loose that much money.

You are also forgetting bigger traders make much more bigger sums than your typical rares trading. So it kinda balances it out. What I want to see is armed escorts when wings arrive. That's what should happen, not lowering prices and making the game easier yet again.

Also somebody that kills you after you dropped your cargo<-- Pirate.

Dont know where or when people started believing pirates are honourable folk, or that they follow any recognisable code, but I think sooner or later people will learn.

I always saw the Pirate's Code as being more in the nature of guidelines...

Okay... Its not easy. Still its criminal and not the right thing to do. RPing is okay, but this? No... it's hard enough to make credits mining. I don't need some player coming into my belt and threatening to take my ore after I spent a few hours collecting it.

I'll take your ore, your cargo as the whim takes me

its not your choice

your mot in control son

And you Britannkic are one of the dbags that people are talking about!! how does that make you feel!!
Makes me feel great lol

i haven't partaken in the profession of Griefer as yet, and yes I consider it one of the ED professions.

in fact when I pirate, if the target runs then I don't bother taking the kill, just leave them at circa 10%. This is down to 1) there being no profit in the kill, 2) I don't get the bounty, 3) I have a warm heart <3

I'll often stop shooting at 10% and give them a final warning.

Often they'll then overheat and explode...

I think Piracy, and Pk'ing have a place in Elite. I would just like to echo that there is a difference between the two. Commander Britannkic's latest post shows some real style. But, I can't condone the PK'ers at the moment. With no real penalty for popping a ship, the door is wide open to all kinds of mischief that FD didn't intend. I understand that FD is working on giving PK bounties some more teeth. If they do, and Traders get the feeling that a Pirate is a pirate. There may be some easing of the tension, and a fuller field to work in. Lets hope so anyway.
.
Long live the open skies.

Lazy Pilot that costs me money. Keep your labels to yourself, I don't see any difference to you.

Views like that...

In my oppinion trading in elite without pirates is very boring. I am trading myself and have been interdicted some times by other players. The "real" pirates communicate with you and you have a chance to "trade" with them... e.g. "I'll give you 10 tons of this unabandoned or I give you 5 tons abandoned". For me this is quite some fun. They dont take everything as they dont want to destroy other players fun in trading as they make their money with other players cargo... In the way I mentioned we have both our fun, I have enough profit, the pirate has his/her share and trading is a bit more exciting as I still try to avoid interdiction. They have no use of it to make every player trade in solo mode. Piracy would be obsolete. This again would make the galaxy in open play empty.. Without piracy, trading in Elite is nothing more than a truck simulator in space...

You've hit the nail on the head. Hope we meet up sometime.

Ones a lazy thief, ones a damaged grief, they're both bad guys. Maybe the former is slightly less bad than the latter, but at the end of the day they're still both scum.

And that's great if you only get hit by one pirate, but look at it this way:

* Start off with 20 tonnes of cargo
* Get interdicted and decide to give up 1/2 your cargo to "both have your fun" - down to 10 tonnes
* Get interdicted again, decide to give up 1/2 your cargo to "both have your fun" - down to 5 tonnes
* Make it to the station with 5 tonnes of cargo and make a loss on the run

I don't see the fun in wasting all my time to make a loss. I'll just take the insurance hit...will probably be the same loss but it's easier to have a standard rule of fight and die than to have a rule of "well sometimes I'll give up cargo and sometimes I won't"

I was interdicted yesterday by what could be the worst pirate in the game. I know about the name and shame rule so let's call this numpty Cmdr 'give cargo'. Tootling along in my pretty much A rated Cobra and see a hollow contact blasting up behind me, sure enough get interdicted. Was greeted with 'Give cargo', hum, I don't have any, 'Give cargo or I kill u, I got rail gun' no, you don't, I've scanned you, you've got 2 pulses and no brains. 'U warned, CARGO'.

This went on until I got bored, turned round and started to fly off. Yes, my Eagle driving buddy decided to spark up their little lasers and let me have it. I wiped off his shields twice and in the end I got, 'you cheat in game, I am reporting'

You pirate types should use this guy for advertising.

lol at least give him some credit for creativity and fun factor he introduced into your game :D

i wouldn't worry about that, from the sounds of it he's going to report you to his mum, not FD.

i personally love pirates, they are like the glitter bombs of the gaming world - all pretty and sparkling as they disintegrate

This game is so dumb, it's created people who think that if they are getting interdicted by another CMDR in open play, that CMDR is either a greifer or a lazy player?!?!?

I mean, what kind of broken thinking is that ?!

All the people who are commenting about the game and/or it's features in a negative light are not just idiots or COD players. We are not seeing just a hand full of "bad" reviews. This game is broken on a fundamental level and it shows in the forums.

FD, pull your thumbs out of your ear holes !

This makes no sense whatsoever.

Did you wipe him out completely or leave him to limp home at 1% hull to face the repair bill?
