Python, fuel bill INSANE!!

BINGO

How funny is this actually. Just another massive "fake" balancing act.... gg frontier

You know that the game is actually a fake of "reality"? It is not real, you know? Then why the balancing has to be real? Games throughout the history have had artificial restrictions. If you would make the attempt even to explain the reality according the logic, you'd have hard time, let alone games, which ARE not reality, except that they exists ;)

Hmm....

Now that you mention that.
Do you mean that 2 tons of Python Fuel cost more than 2 tons of the same fuel for other ships?

I never investigated that - but I did note some surprisingly low fuel bills for i.e. a Type-6 or even a Type-9 - compared to what I have im memory i.e. for a ride in a Python did cost...
Yep, sure does.

Sure, but there isn't some important game balance reason for this. It's just a silly way to scale operations costs. I think it's given undue influence to fuel scoops, myself. Just having 2 or 9 Million to bank in a fuel scoop means that you can basically avoid the scaled cost. Much better to have used docking fees that could not be avoided, and leave fuel scoops for explorers.

You pay the Python fuel bill once, you pay it in outfitting, and you sometimes get a rebate in order to fit more cargo space until your next refill.

If you are running the python on a trade route with maxed out cargo, then this is negligible operating overhead.

However, i think this thread was meant to be a bit tongue in cheek? So I may be missing the point.

What's a fuel bill?

You're asking for real?

The cost of the fuel once you dock and refuel at a station.

Today I paid +30.000 creds for 2% hull damage (Overheat), and +40.000 due to hull tear. Indeed this ships operating costs are very high, higher than nothing I've flown before. Every scratch to the paint hurts but it also provides you with the best flying experience to date IMO.

This babe can fly, can fight and can trade.

I think the only way to keep up with the bills is to make one or two hour trading first, and then go do whatever you want. I'm now focusing on trading because I want to max out all the parts.

Despite the high costs I'm enjoying the hell out of this babe...

Fuel scoop for the win. Just don't cook your python while scooping or you'll pay more in repairs than you save on the fuel.

what surprised me I have an asp. I got into a fight with a bigger ship got a 50 60 k bounty. but had 10 percent hull damage that cost 50k to repair. I might go back to my cobra I cant see that the asp is that much better

Yeah, a whopping great 120 seconds to fill to the my standard 75%.. T9 makes me 1.1 million per run on my route, takes 9 minutes, 11 minutes when I scoop on the second run. Am not in any hurry dude.

To be fair, this is the same reasoning I use when deciding just to buy the fuel and not bother with scooping in the clipper. (I know it's a cheaper ship, but still.)

By the time you have a python you should already know about how huge fuel bill can be, for instance the cobra. From there on it's time for a fuel scoop if you plan on making a lot of jumps.

... anything bigger than a Cobra, and I won't be leaving dock without a scoop :D ... well ok, T6's still tolerable, I guess.

Really?

To me, fuel cost was actually ok in ASP and T7. I did not use scoop with these ships, as benefit from having more cargo instead was covering the fuel cost of even "long" routes (40Ly).

Python however, is roughly 10x more than T7. So yeah, I bought a fuel scoop for this one. But not before...

On topic, I once read someone saying, on that matter : "It's like that, it's not going to change. You need to make up a reason. Think of it as special fuel, high octane. More expensive per tons". I like the idea.

Also, the irony of it all is, since the fuel is SO expensive, I did get a scoop, so in the end the fuel is free, which is... much cheaper than with any ships I had before Python :)

Never flown Asp w/o scoop ... I use it for combat & exploration only, and due exploration the scoop is a must-have. (Never had a T7 - Clipper's so much better...).

Yeah, i'm talking from a pure trade perspective.

For exploration, it's a given, and Clipper, I have no clue, but i've read she's fuel hungry, too.
