Newcomer / Intro I need a Combat Ship setup. And I got money to burn.....

There are Conflict Zones in some systems. Fly there, choose one of two factions and kill everything that's not green :) 3000cr per kill is not bad and it's fun.

Combat Zones are dangerous places and 3K per kill is nothing considering how much you would get for killing some of the larger ships at a Nav Beacon, a much safer environment.

They are quite a spectacle though.

For a combat ship I'd recommend a souped-up Eagle or Viper. They're the dog-fighting classes and most manoeuvrable in combat.

Yep, I read a pretty good explanation of prioritising your power modules somewhere, think it was in the Newcomer Tips thread - if I find it again I'll link it. But basically you put your non-combat non-critical systems in higher level power groups - I have all my scanners in group 5 as I have no need to scan anything when I'm trying to shoot it!

Multycannons are overrated imo and I don't like them. There, I said it! :). Not so powerfull, ammo costs, in a combat against agile pilot, you'll be lucky to hit anything if you're not close enough...
My Cobra setup is: two medium gimballed beams and two small gimballed pulse lasers OR gimballed cannons (for close range), "A" grade internals. Interdictor is a must for bounty hunting in supercruise, if you want to hang out by the nav beacon, you don't need it. Warrent scanner is cheap and can help you make a lot more money while hunting. But that's me. Question is how good of pilot are you and what suites you and your style of combat. Just experiment and you'll find a best setup for yourself in notime.
Personal preference is personal preference, but you'll die of old age before you take down the hull of a combat Anaconda with lasers!

ok I have two possible builds, but I need to clarify something, using the prioritize on the modules, I can still make this build work even though ED shipyard says with ALL modules it's over 100% on power, I can just have the computer switch stuff off right?

Yikes, you've got a lot of B grade on that Cobra. You could cut down at least 15T from what I see.
Try to avoid B, since that is generally the heaviest.
D is lightest.

Oh, and you can disable Cargo Hatch in EDshipyard, that frees up 6% power.
The very first checkbox in the Power row, is Cargo Hatch.

Disabling FSD, cargo hatch and fuel scope should work. But why are you only using C1 weapons in that Viper build? One of the selling points is that it has two C2 hardpoints...

Was still working out the weapon selections, wanted to get the power problem solved first.

Changes:
Upgraded beams to Class-2
Downgraded Kill Warrent Scanner from C to E losing 1km range, but gaining .6 megawatts back (high rated scanners are guzzle power like crazy)
Added chaff launcher (Never leave home without one!)
Upgraded FSD to A saving 3 tons (downgrade to C if it's out of your price range, but as said before, avoid B grade equipment if possible, excluding shield cells.)
Downgraded life support to D to save 1.5 tons (you have just enough power to switch it back to A if you're paranoid about O2, but do you really need 25 minutes to get to a station?)

A couple notes:
A rated sensors are useful for picking out targets, but they drain a lot of power. C are most efficient, power-to-range wise, and would save you a whopping .56 MW. That would be the first downgrade I recommend if you need more power.

Keep in mind that while the Viper is a thirsty beast, unless you plan on a lot of jumps between hunting spots you don't need a fuel scoop. Gas is dirt cheap in a viper, and you'll probably want to be docking fairly often to cash in your chips and repair&reload. If you downgraded sensors to C you could stuff in a C2B shield bank in this slot.
