You beat my just posted record by 0.0005 earth masses ... why are you so cruel? ;)

Lol didn't even notice your post when I posted that ... JUST beat you.

HEAVIEST SINGLE RING
HIP 42398 A 8 A WITH A WEIGHT OF 8,502,998,728,704.0 MT - FERRIS

LIGHTEST SINGLE RING

If you are looking for suggestions for records what about...

Body (non-stellar/stellar) with longest/shortest orbital period.
Body (non-stellar) with largest/smallest semi-major axis.
Body (non-stellar) with longest/shortest rotational period.
You could sub-divide the above for each non-stellar planetary category.

What about the 'most record breaking system'... system that holds the most records.
Or 'most record breaking CMDR'

EDIT - Actually the orbital period and semi-major axis would be too confusing unless it was only for bodies orbiting a star.. i.e. non-moons. But could have Binary Stellar objects with shortest/longest orbital period

so the border between high metal content and metal rich is not 33%....

Indeed not, I believe it's somewhere closer to 40 but we'll get there eventually... I'll beat your 34.3% by 0.3% here thank you very much (also I don't think there's official category for this)

EDIT: beating you now by almost a whole percent, new highest would be 35.1% metal

I personally think, that too many categories just make it more confusing. Quality over quantity. But that's just my own personal opinion.
Patau, maybe we could ask the exploration community what they want and collect ideas for new categories (if requested) in a separate thread or do a vote or something like this. What do you guys think?

I'm with you. I think less categories is better. Why can't a terraformable water world not be entered in water world? why should it be separated from other terraformable planets? etc.

If you have sub-categories, there should be a whole section of your spreadsheet, that runs automatically. Is this desirable for people looking after records?

I personally am concentrating on some categories, ignoring others completely. I think the input would be greater and easier if the quantity of categories would be toned down or kept at the same level as last week at least.

And: Entries should be easy to research. E.g. the adding of the furthest/nearest struck me on my way back towards the bubble. I cannot go back to those places to measure their distance. Many lost entries there. (And most people seem not to bother with them anyway.)

just my short input

and one more :)

SMALLEST METAL RICH PLANET

this would as well be

(don't think I have ever seen a moon of a moon that is metal rich)

Personally, I've not been adding my data because it's too much work to troll through the entire list of records against the dozens of systems I scan in a session. I may have some, I may not, but even with the current amount of categories I'm like.. Meh, CBA.

now if there was an automated way of doing it......

I think this would be good in terms of not having to alt-tab out of the game and remembering numbers (I for one am really bad at that). Then again the social aspect could be severely diminished, unless we agreed to meet annually at Lave station for an evening of polite bragging once the FPS element is implemented to the game :D

the more the merrier is my take on it. Categories are categories. If they make sense. They should stay. No "dumbing down"/simplyfying because it's to many for some.

concentrating on some categories meself too. Don't even check distance from sol or SagiA. And if I can't keep it all in my head. So be it. Plenty of record candidates I can't find anymore either.
Who cares really? Do it for the fun of adding the ones you feel like. Don't get to obsessed about it.

As for automation. I added exploration API stuff to the relevant thread. If implemented by FD it will be possible to make it all automatic...

in the meantime... let's just have fun with this :)

I'm afraid I have to break the previously largest class II gas giant by 48km

ADDED TO THE BOOKS

Finally some new records to report (it is getting harder and more frustrating as you find yet another tie to a previous record).

Anyway

no pics from orbit?

Is it not also the lightest planet ever since it apparently has 0.0000 earth masses?

Edit-Ahh just realized.. there are many.

Didn't even know! No screenshots. They aren't very good when Rifting ;-)

Just headed back and actually got close as that is the smallest ever planet! Thanks for the heads up :)

Body occlusion boundary was at 158km. That thing is tiny!

Made a screenie anyway :)
