Your first ship upgrade?

I don't know what you mean with range and all but if its anything like the original my first buy WILL be a docking computer.. excluding the music it always played...

The original Spectrum version of Elite had instant docking when using a docking computer. As soon as the 'S' appeared to let you know you were in range of the station, you could activate the docking computer. You were then instantly docked at the station.

I remember playing another version of Elite (possibly the PC one) where activating the docking computer just allowed the computer to take over the flight controls and you could see the whole process through the cockpit... and yes that music.

Did you have the cassette tape version? the DFS version did proper docking ... most of the time - you had to keep your eye on where the docking computer was taking you though, it sometimes took you into the back of the station!

Yep, I had the cassette version. Don't know about the DFS version. Did it come in a variety of colours and fabrics? :)

The docking on the PC version had 2 options I think. One was the quick dock and the other took you through all the steps and had a habit of crashing you into the station now and again. Quick dock all the way!

Docking computers are for wussies. Manual flying all the way. Much easier too with analogue controls as opposed to using keys.

Quite right, you tell 'em!

And those blood stains and scratches around the docking bay are just evidence that they weren't manly enough! :p

I was under the impression from a dev comment that all ships have a form of docking computer from the start, due to the rather large and interesting stations?

I'm going to buy a trigger cover for my weapons. How many times have we fired our lasers and got a bunch of Vipers trying to wipe you from the galaxy?

Brilliant idea!

In FE2 your starter ship didn't even come with radar or scanners. So I think they are the 1st purchase then some sort of gun. Then a processed meat plant to grind up the slave sausages...... :D

I am actually starting to worry about you, am all for slave running but you just want to to them into sausages or something! remember we need to make profit, and no sausage slaves don't count unless sold to the Feds! ;)

Yeah, even *I*, the commander who wears my slave trading bona fides on my sig, think I'll draw the line at slave sausages. :D

Just more evidence of our advanced Imperial morality. ;)

Lets see...

- warp field mass enhancer
- dual 30 megawatt beam lasers
- advanced cargo scanning computer
- jolly roger

Then im off trader fishing :p

But these are high quality Slave sausages made from freshly ground slaves from Prism with a mixture of 7 old world herbs and spices. guarenteed to put the mmmmmmmmm into Fammmmine :D

I think it will be a passenger cabin, I suspect it will generate a lot of missions and reputation.
and off course enemies to handle.

I cannot claim the PEW PEW LAZORZ credit. Someone else has it in their sig and I borrow it occasionally. I love the way it sums up a particular approach to gaming.

As for the slave sausages, it really depends where you get them from. If you just get them from Laveburys supermarket they are ok but if you bother to shop local and buy fresh...

c3pO automated trade assistant

I might be getting a c3pO automated trading assistant. With the limited cargo hold size, it can only do so much, but with price fluctations being what they are, it makes Cr whilst in the hangar from the same algorithm as watching price fluctuations to sell at a relatively good price after arrival. I reckon that having one of these will neutralise hangar rent for me and maybe the random extra could be useful..

Rumours that they can trade in six million languages are probably a bit overstated. The cheap c3pO-r01 knock-off captured near to the Argus Industries homeworld got into a panic from the slight layout change to the lave radio price lists in changing web browsers from firefox to midori. Nevertheless it was finding ways to make >3dB per day gain on Cr given an unlimited hold size.

In original Elite, my first upgrade was a hold enlargement, and afterburners in oolite are my next. Trade&Evade at first, then Upgrade was my motto.
