Upcomming beta testing (1.1 and 1.2): Decal as gratification would be nice.
Now, as the first beta test after release will start soon, I wonder whether or not FD might reward the participants in some way.
We have learned that the beta-testing universe will be totally separated from the "real" playing universe. No action done, no time spent there will help to advance in your struggle towards fame, wealth or whatsoever you crave for.
I realize that there are many hardcore fans that might find the sheer idea of helping in the development of the(ir) game gratifying enough. I might be very well one of them. Some might simply be curious about the new features as well.
However, I spoke to friends (beta-backers as myself, which actually brought me into the game) and they don't feel allured to be part of the upcoming beta testing. And the curiosity might be satisfied quite soon after some playing around with the new features and no long dedication to play-testing is needed.
So, why should a reasonable amount of players be willing to test the beta?
Let's state it clear: pre-launch, playing an otherwise unavailable game was the reward. We had fun playing the game while testing what was implemented so far.
Now we have to decide whether or not we want to test (and hopefully make the game better in doing so) or spend our time with something meaningful for our own progress.
I have the feeling that players who decide to help the developers and the gaming community at the same time should be somehow rewarded for their time investment. Time that, as I stated above, could be as well spent for personally more beneficial actions.
Hence my suggestion: What about a special decal (in the main game) for those who participate in the testing? Decals are easy to produce, not sold in the on-line shop and have no game-play effect.
A reasonable time spent in the beta would be necessary, of course. Maybe measured in time spent on-line in the beta, maybe after a certain amount of participation in the to-be-tested community goals?
Please don't get me wrong. I'm, in no way, demanding anything here!
I just think this would be a nice move from FD to reward their most dedicated hardcore-fans.
What do you think?
Will you test the beta no matter what? Will you do so out of curiosity or in order to help FD?
Don't you have any intention to participate in the beta right now and would you change your mind if something as the proposed decal would give you a "tangible" reward in the main game?
Or will you continue to blaze your trail in the main game, no matter what?
