FD just Nuked loads of trade routes!

TO clarify this post. You see entitled gamers like tim74uk and Vulture only see things with little !'s or ?'s above there head as content. I ran out of I and ?. Oh no's time to scream for content. 400 billion star system, well screw that exploring is not content, immersion is not content. These guys are the follower types they literally need to be told what to do where to do and even be able to google it, coming up with something fun to do on thier own. Screw that man, that is work, gimmie gimmie gimme!

What the everliving hell? "Exploring is content"? Since when? Especially if you've seen one gas giant, you've seen them all.

And "immersion"? Please. That has to be a joke.
Let me see if I can explain this:
Starting in December I got a job as a barista at Starbucks.
Three weeks later, I owned the company and a fleet of high performance cars - 2 Ferraris and a comfortable luxury coach/sleeper/bus with fancy leather seats and a hot tub. I blew the transmission out of my Dodge Viper pulling a stump out of my lawn, but luckily it was insured.

I still complain bitterly about the lack of opportunity in this cruel universe in which I find myself. It's incredibly unfair that the trade route I used so successfully last week has been changed; I simply cannot stop bursting into tears.

You're comparing this _GAME_ to a real-world JOB?

REally??

I bought the game on release.... I am a working father of three... I do not have limitless amounts of time to play... I have managed to get a type 6 with 8 million in the bank. What can I buy with that 8 million..... nothing more than I already have.... If all had stayed the same in another month I might have enough for a type 7....

How is that owning a fleet of anacondas????

What I find the most interesting is the day zero moaning, most of you didn't even try to find an alternative route and are already complaining about the changes.

Prey tell... If I wanted to trade in space why the frack shouldn't I be able to?? After all isn't Elite a space trading game??

And that is where yo are entirely mistaken and EVERYONE here is trying to explain. Running back and forth between the exact same spots and never straying IS NOT, I REPEAT NOT TRADING. This is where you erred.

The whole Tenche and Beta Sculptoris Luxuries thing makes me wonder if this was deliberate by FD or not. We know they follow these boards (and they obviously have the game telemetry) and would have seen hoards of players grinding the few LS between orbiter and the Lux ships. Those traders (and opportunists) in Pythons were working up to Anacondas and the T7 were saving for Pythons/T9, T6 for T7 etc. It may be a grand plan to get some sort of distribution of ship types - I suspect there are many more Anacondas flying now than there were a couple of weeks back. On the other hand maybe it was a bug and by the time FD got around to doing anything about it, 'quantative easing' had happened on a grand scale and I suspect a few E:D cr billionaires were created.

I think wealth creation is the engine of E:D and except for those few wanting to just look at the amazing star-scapes, and the morons who get off on dumbfiring an innocent player from a disposable Sidewinder. Gaining credits is a measure of success no matter what your occupation. A pirate who kills and doesn't collect credits from selling their ill-gotten gains is kind of stupid (or a mornon - see above), as is the Bounty Hunter who doesn't manage to kill their prey and loses on fuel and ammo. Traders are not the only ones who measure success by wealth or assets - every occupation does to some degree, either just for fuel and ammo or prestige.

I think the thing that gets up the traders noses is the sheer amount of time they put in grinding. This is real life time, and not just E:D time, and that has a value. It's like working a year to buy (say) a car, then some dude steals it, crashes into it or just scrapes his key down the side - it hurts and its frustrating. It is no wonder there are so many moans on this board about bugs/morons/exploits etc. Unlike most games (and many, many new E:D players have come from other genres I bet) 'going back to the last save point' equivalent in E:D could mean hours or even days of grinding for traders - especially without cargo insurance.

If the new launcher has rebalanced supply and demand that makes the E:D economy more like a real one then I think that is a good thing - I like the idea of chasing markets across the galaxy - it feels like the spirit of Elite to me. However markets need data to function, and not providing the tools to allow traders to calculate risk and reward is a big hole. FD stopped 3P tools from scraping servers and memory, but have yet to provide a reliable in-game alternative - I hope they do soon.

Maybe they never intended seeking lux to be credit printer?

Maybe just maybe, they wanted players to actually have to use their heads and figure out how to look for the best trade routes, instead of being told what and where to trade?

This.

So many bad players have grown accustomed to easy mode luxury seekers and endless supply/demand trade routes, this looks like the way they are balancing it. You reap what you sow.

I used luxury seekers for a short while, but i'm happy with the change if it means people have to actually use effort to make money through trade, rather than simply time and willpower.

Thanks for that useless analogy to real life.

This is a videogame, which is something people play for enjoyment, not a simulation of the human condition. If I wanted to grind for eternity until I die I would go work at Starbucks.

Um, I hate to burst your bubble but trading in this game only amounts to time and willpower.

What the frack are you talking about Entitled gamer.... I BOUGHT the game.... I gave my money to FD for them to deliver a game.... what was received was far less than was promised.

Damn right I'm Entitled...

If you paid someone to decorate your house... would you feel entitled for the work to be done??? Then what if the work man turned up and only half finished the job... saying don't worry we will do the rest at some point in the future.... only to say they will charge you more for the work you already payed for??? Sound like a good deal??

Okay, you either had notepads full of trade routes that took dozens of hours to sniff out, or you had one or two and have been plying them as your schedule allowed. Which is it?

There's a fun part of this game that I missed?
Dear god, please tell me what that is.

Watching the <Please don't> complain on the forums is pretty fun in and of itself.

Me, I like listening to music and asteroid mining. Occasionally I like getting into a furball with some NPCs and sometimes I win, sometimes I lose, but it's always a fun fight. I get satisfaction when I sell something for more than I bought it for. And I enjoy the breathtaking beauty of the universe around me.

Some of you guys are like the rich clowns who have a warehouse full of sports cars that they never drive. And, of course, they complain about the high taxes they pay on them (while paying less than everyone else in pure percentage terms) .... The point to life is not endless acquisition of shiny new toys. It's also not endless violence and domination over your fellow man (because there's always someone tougher or a bigger cheater than you are...) A game is about the journey. Have you noticed what most games do when you get to "the top" or kill the final boss? They end. The end of the game isn't the reward - the journey is.

It's a real bummer they stopped teaching philosophy in high schools.

(Edit: PS - in the time in between while I was writing that, I sold a bunch of gallite for a handy profit! Yay me!)

For your inforation I didn't. I had 6 trade routes. Between systems more than 130LY appart in some cases!

But when a route is found... am I suppose to go... oh well only good for one run...

My Profit goes down from 1 million a session to -1800 due to fuel costs upon not finding a route.

I.E. Making Money has been Nerfed.. Period!

Would be true as well if all the star systems didn't look almost exactly the same!

Journey my backside!

Good to know they fixed at least part of it. Never did Rare routes as they felt too stale/artificial and a cop-out for making money. I find an enjoyable aspect of trading seeing the station's supplies being whittled down as I gobble them all up.

Going back and forth between the 2 same stations was boring anyway. Now trader can still make great profits but they need to be way more ressourcefull.

At least you guyz/galz are having a civil argument. If this were any other game on any other forum, the mods woulda had to step in by page 2 or 3...

So true!

Well then, it sounds like the feature that you've been getting the most gameplay out of is still in the game. Feel free to go back to hunting down lucrative trade routes.

It's in there alright.. only now I expect to see a type 7 cockpit this time next year!
