Just don't feel like logging in...

Logged in for first time in days yesterday. Bought a load of gold from somewhere that exports it, took it to somewhere that imports it. As usual the importer has it cheaper. Then whilst flying somewhere else the doorbell goes. No pause so try and log off. Come back 5 mins later, still in game and down to about 20 hull and no cargo as under attack. It's just too much of a chore. Needs more fun.

I felt the same myself a week or two ago,so I went onto lite playing(played a lot less for a fortnight) to use a cliche Elite is a marathon not a sprint

You give it "time" guys seem to forget that this is a business, not a fanproject for fun. There will be no "time" when this fails right now, they will just make the business decision to can it and develop more profitable stuff instead.

This is what worried me from day one. Without some sort of on going monitazation, I don't know how much more content we will see.

Beta 1.1 has sparked my interest again but I'd imagine that after the novelty has worn off I'll stop playing again for some time. (Perhaps with the odd sneaky game here or there.)

Still, credit where credit is due. After not playing much since the early days of the release I think my trip to Sol was one of the more satisfying gaming experiences I've had in any game in quite a while. It wasn't exciting as such. Ther were no interdictions and I was only in serious danger once when my ship nearly overheated. But I still came away feeling as if I had achieved something significant. The next day when I logged in I was left thinking "OK, so what's next?".

I keep hoping that multiplayer gaming is a fad that's going to blow over. I long for the time when developers concentrated on creating an experience for the player, and not hoping for an experience to emerge from all the players. I'm still playing, but I'm not immune to the feeling of its soullessness. And I think it all boils down to sacrifices necessary for multiplayer.

I wonder if anyone would be interested in getting the OpenGL Frontier:Elite 2 source code and integrating Rift support?..

There seem to be a lot of 'lack of content' threads, but not many 'suggested content' replys. To those bemoaning a lack of content, what extra content do you want? How should it work? How SHOULD it effect the galaxy? How should trading and war effect markets, and politics? How do you scale that to a whole galaxy of stars? Or even just the inhabited 'core'?
I fear for many of us the answer might be "Yes, the original was awesome in the mid-80s, but games have moved on so much further since then that now this concept just doesn't carry any longevity" :S .

In their last trading statement for the stockholders they plan on sales of the game to quadruple each year till 2017. They expect at minimum 2 million copies to be sold by the end of 2017, and at maximum 30 million! Right now it is around 500k.
So that would surely secure enough financing without additional monetization. Although I really have no idea on how they want to achieve this miracle. Don't high budget videogames usually have the bulk of their sales in the first month?

There is a cosmetic cash-shop, remember.....

These kind of activities, whilst a nice touch, add nothing to the game. I feel like Frontier is tossing bones to distract us right now. Plus it edges me closer to the feeling that is Braben's astrophysics simulator for space tourism and not an actual game. Exploration is only one element to the Elite universe but it's getting a lot of Dev and PR attention because it's the easiest to attend to. It's a shame the rest of the gameplay doesn't get the same polish.

2 million?
I don't think they have sold more than around 50k in the last two months, not sure, but finding 350000 as total sold. So 22 months at 50k per 2 months is 550,000 more sold in 2017 at this rate. That is if sales keep a steady pace, which we don't know at the moment.
Closer to a million.
Maybe Steam sale?

Quadruple? Is that meant as satire?

And a optimistic projection of 30 million? Hell, even WoW didn't manage more than 12 million and that's probably _the_ IP on the market.

Once player attrition starts because of the problems highlighted in this thread only the real die-hards will remain long term. Once the 4-5 space sim games similar to Elite are released between 2015/2016 I can't see Frontier reaching anywhere near those numbers for the same reasons. People will look elsewhere for engaging gameplay. And when the numbers don't start to tally up, that'll mean development will slow because it's no longer a money making endeavour. Eventually the servers will shut down.

I want to keep hopefully this will never happen but the reality is competition will be incredibly stiff this year.

Oh dear....

I can't say I have any real understanding beyond the surface for these kind of things, but if sales are to continue that requires people who bought it first to basically sell it to their friends who weren't interested at first. This will require a lot more things to do in game. Right now I'm the only one left playing out of the 4 of us who bought it at release.

For about two weeks I've been trying to understand why I have been logging in but not bothering to undock.

Damn I had the same experience here. Logging in and when in front of my hottas controller, wondering why should I undock exactly ? Only to close the game and go play something else. It took me like 3 weeks to get to that point, another week to finally accept this feeling and stop playing the game for now. Sad.

Totally agree with the OP.
