General / Off-Topic New Star Trek Series?

I felt the same thing happened to "Enterprise". Going back to a time when small furry creatures from Alpha Centauri were real small furry creatures from Alpha Centauri. Dashing captains had to rely on their wits to overcome obstacles.

And then they went and used the Transporter to win the day<sigh>.

Actually I thought their biggest problem was the desire to pay homage to the future-set TNG, TOS, DS9, etc. in the first season.

There was absolutely no reason to have a "Ferengi" episode, or a "Borg" episode, because we know from continuity that the episodes can only have one resolution - They defeat them but never get a clue to their origin. I did like their treatment of the Andorians, fleshing them out into a viable civilisation rather than being the token aliens that they had been up to that point, I thought the Xindi arc was good, and even though the Romulan contribution to the series had to end the same with no human having any idea who they actually were, it sort-of suited their modus operandi.

The Time War dragged on a bit though :p

I think I preferred the plot of Deep Space Nine, purely for their bold decision to make the galaxy-spanning war that killed millions and changed the political powers of an entire quadrant, was the "B" story over Sisko's personal journey.

EDIT:

On a related note, I just found this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WkLxFLOW9ew and I have to admit I never noticed all of these contradictions before. It's almost as if they're making it up as they go along! :)

Hee hee hee...

Imagine if Michael Brookes and Allen Stroud were working for Star Trek. The writers would have their scripts bounced back to them in the blink of an eye.

Some of the mistakes though, well, isn't Picard just lying when he says he doesn't dance? Why's that a contradiction?

Hmm starfleet not big on the old continuity then?

We really (and by we I mean me) could be doing with a new Star Trek or indeed a new Sci Fi series as a whole. Maybe some bright spark could base one in the ED universe?

They should just bring back Firefly... end of! :p

Pre Wash and Book getting killed, of course.

Well I hope I'm not being overly optimistic here, but Elite did start from an Acorn;)

There is this quote

Maybe it wasn't the full Elite game, but I was just talking about its seeds.

doesnt matter as the BBC was also an acorn:

the BBC Microcomputer System, or BBC Micro, was a series of microcomputers and associated peripherals designed and built by the Acorn Computer company for the BBC Computer Literacy Project, operated by the British Broadcasting Corporation. Designed with an emphasis on education, it was notable for its ruggedness, expandability and the quality of its operating system.

Regarding Elite's origins. There is one man who knows, and he can post on this forum.

Care to comment, Mr Braben?

I think I understand the two minds bit. They put together an excellent crew, but that line "Renegades, as the name suggests, will be bold, edgy and a little dark." Does that just mean they'll use lower powered lighting and they'll be a lot of swearing?

What's wrong with light and fluffy, with a nice sense of humour?

"We're bringing back TellyTubbies but this time they'll be bold, edgy and a little dark."
I know. Star Trek just isn't proper Trek without its pyjama-uniforms, gently clicking lightweight tricorders, soft-sounding phasers and quietly-carpeted starships.

The "could go wrong" thing reminds me of the last Stargate series where they were stranded on a ship far away from the rest of humanity - except that they ruined the concept by allowing them to "mind visit" Earth and tagging on silly arguments between the crew members that never felt "real" (they just gave you the feeling that the arguments didn't originate from the characters, but were there simply as plot devices).

The opening to Stargate Universe was great... HUGE potential before diluting itself into a homeopathic treatment of sci fi serism You are welcome to use the new words i created for this sentence.
Stargate Universe was as clear a case of producer/show-runner hubris as any TV network could dread to muster. When I read the character pitch I knew it was doomed - which was a shame given its situation premise - a nice idea wrecked from the start.

Can't even try to get interested in this. Used to love Star Trek, Enterprise killed that off fairly sharply.

The Maquis vs federation bit didn't really work, but it gets my vote for the EMH and, of course, 7 of 9.
So be as edgy as you want, but don't forever the Lycra!
It could be pantafristick
There was a member of the wardrobe/makeup team whose primary task on set was to stand by with Jeri Ryan as she prepared to hit her mark and aim a warm hair dryer at her assets to discourage Lycra nipple-peek.

Really? I would have thought a well made bra would have done the trick.

The last episode of Enterprise was on tonight I thought it was a bit sad they canned that show. I didn't get to watch it initially when it was first shown but I understand the ratings weren't good. Yet I thought after the first series it got better and better.

T'Pal wasn't bad on the eyeball either

What! And lose all that money the bloke was paying them?
