See you out there Commanders... actually... no. I wont be seeing you out there. :p
Griefers are getting hit quite a bit in 1.1, as for getting interdicted, well that is part of the game, especially to traders, if you have valuable stuff, then there are people that want to steal it, but real pirates rob, they rarely kill, because there is little to no point in killing someone 'just because' and with 1.1, interdiction is apparently a crime, though that said, it seems only to give a fine currently? which is a bit odd?

I'm hoping my game is broken because my travels have only found me one other commander on Mobius, and he didn't respond (couldn't even find the friend I was coordinating with though)

I see at least 10 or so every time I play, which is generally a 2 hour session.

Because Open play needs legit players to report the hackers, we're the majority...fleeing to solo solves nothing, there's no magical anti-cheat.

The best anti-cheat is a good community.

As for griefers, well..some of us don't care about dealing with psychos. For some of us when nothing can go wrong there is no fun in watching the credits go up.

Pretty much this.

Z...

When Frontier finally gets off their backside and DOES something like the mentioned wings we may not have to worry about kill steals and we all get a portion of the bounty. Though at the moment I am skeptical since the latest beta of 1.1 isn't looking very promising. The got my 50, but they won't get anymore until I see some results.

That still relies on people grouping up with you in the first place. If they however are toxic and want full bounty because it's so easy to snipe with rail guns, then that wont fix it

My reply is all about the OP, he is a trader, so no problems there for him.

True. Give me a group that allows all form of PVP but just killing players for fake RP or sport, and I'd be all over it, though. Mobius isn't that :(

Can someone tell me what i'm doing wrong? I'm yet to face these so called griefers and hackers, I must be doing something wrong...

I've always played online and only went to solo to fix the invisible cargo bugs during the beta and gamma and i think 1 time after release. So far i've seen no griefers, no bloodsucking murderers and no hackers, and the last good chunk of hours i've been around the ever so populated Lave, with dozens of players flying in and out, some trading others bounty-hunting.

If anyone could help direct me in the right direction to find these so called griefers/hackers I would be in dept with you.

Im a T6 trader, only reason i would be in MP is to get that little sense of activity when i see another player.

T6. That's part of the problem.

Save up for an Asp with strong shields and fast engines. Then you can laugh at the pirate as he wastes his ammunition while you escape again with your shields down, hull at 30%, and sparks flying around the cockpit. That's more fun than bulk transport in Solo.

Keep way from the Lave area and you shouldn't have trouble from griefers, but keep an eye on the forum for reports of outbreaks elsewhere. The comming ED 1.1 version should make a dumbfire missile strike ineffective against strong shields.

if you pirate AI ships and other CMDR scoop your cargo away, you can't do anything about that.

The sort of people who play in Mobius are not the sort of people to do this. And ill stick by that statement until i hear that someone has actually done it.

Funny, whenever this topic comes up, no PvPers seem interested in making or joining such a group. Probably because such a group would only be filled with wolves, and no sheep.

I miss the point of this post?
...is it something like, "Why is there an open play option? Because I only like the solo play option? ...because there are bad people in the world."

Is that it? I guess thankfully, you can play solo.

A combination perhaps? Not sure if you read the entire post. I mentioned hackers also and reasons why i was in open play to begin with.
Honestly, it seems im not missing out on anything. Im just trading and the chat only works on mondays... idk. So whats the point?
I basically get equally much out of Open play as Solo atcm.

That's a bold claim.

No, because I think that is what open play should be like.

I'm an open play only player

Mainly because I used to play elite in solo mode (because thats all there was), plus its more fun to know that all those credits you are carrying can go up in smoke if you run into a committed killer
But then he runs the risk of you being more heavily armed than he is.....

On the subject of hackers and griefers, sadly they are a fact of any on-line game, whether you are playing Elite: D or CoD or TF2 or counter strike or even quake 1 deathmatch, only way to deal with them is the report to admins who'll take the nessesary action.
Because I've worked as a server admin for a couple of game server companies, kicking, banning where needed, and know how much trouble 1 single hacker can cause. IE .. 100 tickets on the same guy, are they true or are they trying to get a legit player banned?

But the griefers and hackers will stay in the general area there are more players, because all they want is cheap dur de hur laughs and cant be bothered to track their target over 2 or 3 systems.
get 4 jumps out from the popular places and you'll only see decent normal players hopefully

I think the biggest draw for me to open play would be forming a wing (eventually) of friends who would follow along on a trade route and pounce on the vast majority of the single pirates. Assuming the hackers get weeded out with time... I can see a lot of fun in having a decoy trade ship draw in unsuspecting pirates. There are some fun gaming elements that can't be replicated in solo play. I would hope in the above scenario, a trader would be allowed to create a bulletin board entry or have some way of transferring credits to a support wing upon safe arrival at a target station.

But anyway, that's why open play would interest me...

Since this is a video game that you play for fun, there really is only one reason to play a given mode:
You find that mode to be the most fun.

Some people prefer the risk. Others don't. The correct choice is to do what you prefer.

This is probably hitting to the core of the topic. Question: what do you do if provisions made for mode A negatively affect mode B? (Well, answer: live with it. But one has to do some balancing.)

The game doesn't exist in a vacuum. There are other games competing for each player's attention. If changes to promote a given mode negatively affect another mode, the players that prefer the mode that was harmed might, instead of living with it, decide that some other game is now more fun or enjoyable than ED and leave for that.

For my part I'm past committing to a game. Any game. I stay only while the game gives me an amount of enjoyment on par with the most enjoyable ones in my (thousand strong) game library, and when it's not among the most enjoyable for me anymore I unceremoniously dump it.

It's why I'm not really playing ED currently. Not enjoyable enough, not by a long shot. I'm still in the forums because I do think the game could, in the future, become enjoyable for me (specially if offline mode, with modding support, is added; that single thing instantly draws my attention to any game). Losing hope of that, though; up to now it wasn't even able to beat how much I enjoyed OOLite, the free clone of the original Elite.

Under whose definition does it have a negative impact and how? Simply because it's associated with mode A? There has not been a single thing done to improve open play that has a negative impact on solo, and FD would have to deliberately go out of their way to do so. Improving Open play is pretty much nothing but beneficial since the improvements needed for both open and solo are core game mechanics that should have been fleshed out before release, and apply equably to both playstyles.

Even Wings and improved comms.

I was playing Open last night and I was in a Nav Beacon just seeing what was there and out of nowhere another human being appeared.

I closed all the windows in my house, made sure my doors were locked and sat and stared at the screen, shivering, scared, feeling lost, helpless and very alone.

What did he want? Why was he here? I could see his hollow marker on my radar, what do I do? How could this be happening to me? Won't someone think of the children?

I screamed out as loud as I could but no one was home, I called the Police, they agreed this sounded serious. They forwarded my distress call to the Army who scrambled jets and used calming techniques on the phone to me to try and stop my shaking and screaming.

The other person on my radar turned to face me, by this point my hands were dripping in sweat, I couldn't see properly and I had to cool down.

|He opened his comms, OK - this is it, my heart can't take any more, I feel weak, tired yet alert somehow. I have never been this terrified.

Slowly his words appear on my screen, this is it folks, this is human contact in a game - Through my tears I manage to see this bounders words appear on my screen, I feel violated.

"Sup dude, how's things goin?"

I smash my monitor with a nearby teapot and run away into the night screaming

It sounds like you would be more comfortable in Solo.... ;)
