Celebration at Lincoln Station - February 12, 3301

Lol, judging from this thread more of us chosen people in the Empire have Sol permits than the unenlightened in the Federation, and we do so love a party.

This is because citizens of the Empire are on average much more wealthy than citizens of the Federation, and for all their talk of democracy and equality, only the wealthy can enter Sol system. "Oh, you crazy Imperial, the permit only ends up costing a few dozen thousand credits", I hear you Federal supporters say. This shows how disconnected you are from the reality of poverty in the Federation. Your average planet-bound citizen, doomed to toil at a fish processing factory for scraps that barely let him survive, considers the sum of 500 credits to be the product of many years of savings. And that's the lucky ones - it certainly doesn't include the droves of homeless people cluttering up the streets of all your cities.

Could we strech the celebration by an hour or two for us europeans with daytime jobs ? ;-)

Absolutely. Rather then extending it however, perhaps you could suggest a third hour for folks to meet up? I'm afraid if we say "between the hours of #### and #### then people might show up toward the beginning and wander off before the end. If we have a specific hour to meet together its easier to meet the appointment.

More Imperial rubbish! Stories told to children in the Empire to "poison the well" so to speak. 500 credits the product of many years savings! That's crazy! Nobody saves that much, Credits were meant to be SPENT! And work as a FREE PERSON in a fish processing facility is honorable labor I say! Honorable labor!

I'm originally from Lindum Colonia (the UK city of Lincoln that the President's name originates from) so I may attend :D.

American English is different from British English.

Largely in part due to Noah Webster popularizing the changes for various reasons. IIRC, the origins were mixed between latin and french and as such, I've always thought of them as just different.

Bonus points for Webster being an early abolitionist. :)

Well... it made it to Galnet due to my original post on this in the player-contributed news forum.
Lets hope that pro-slavery minded commanders don't crash the celebration... but lets be ready in case they do! I suggest attending in either a Sidewinder or, if you can stand the loss, in a combat ready vessel to help provide security during the event.

Meeting times: First and foremost 18:00 on the 12th of February (the date/time on Galnet). I'd also suggest 01:00utc and 14:00utc for those who can't make it at 18:00.

1492nd birthday? Columbus "discovered" America in 1492 A.D.
Quite a special date to celebrate.

1492 is also the code to activate the "fireworks" we have planned. You cant have a party without fireworks. Columbus was actually lost, he had originally set out for somewhere called Hutton orbital, and this celebration is in honour of him finally getting there.

Not sure if intended but could be read to be an epic burn. +1 4 u. :)

Not really a burn... just enjoying the banter :)

+1 rep for the unexpected Hutton Orbital reference.

I'll try to be there for security.

Great to hear CMDR! Hope to see you there. I'm not sure if I'll be attending in my Viper or my Cobra.

Good stuff, I'm looking forward to the vids. :)

>in character Typical half baked Federal response to their cultural failings. The Federation wants to outlaw slavery and the best you can come up with is to flash your lights outside a station? Why don't you flash your lasers at the abundant slave transports within your own diseased jurisdictions? Or better still, go to Imperial space and impose your 'illuminations' there? You could do your flashing outside one of the busy slave hubs. Of course, I can't guarantee your protest will go down well or that the station defences will be able to protect you from outraged Imperial pilots, but your naïve cause would certainly have a bit more weight.
The Federation is directly responsible for the illegal slave trade in our galaxy. We are not blind to this fact no matter how you try to dazzle us with your illusions. :p

IC: Mankind brought his sins with him to space. Redeeming ourselves of them shouldn't require violence. The Federation isn't totally slave free and this is a first step toward making that the case. There are plenty of folk from every faction... Federation, Empire, and Alliance who want to see slavery end... and they are welcome to come and show their support. We look to Aisling Duval to lead the Empire in this endeavor and a are darn right greatfull that everything points to her succeeding to the Imperial throne.

The Federation responsible for Slavery? Laughable. If the Alliance would stop tolerating the practice then Slavery in Federation would end immediately.

The Empire will not allow itself to be destroyed, especially by itself. Slavery, as you call it, is our foundation. Let's see who mounts the throne.

No Imperial clippers allowed, and there would need to be a screen of fighters to stop the imperials interfering!

That's rather assinine. I want to show up in style and not in some ragtag dropship.

Mind you if a person earned the right to come to SOL then what does it matter what they show up in.
