I don't regret spending the $500 it ended up costing to get my dk2 or the several months I had to wait. There is no other experience that compares. If you can afford it you wont regret it, the difference it makes to playing just elite is amazeballs.

Such a simple thing as leaning forward when I am docking to make sure my T7 is aligned to the pod before dropping to the pad, I didn't even think about it until I did it and it gave me another wow moment

No, nothing is really confirmed yet. 1440p is the most probable resolution, but once the developers also hinted that 4k would be optimal in their opinion. Also they haven't even yet implemented eye tracking which can in fact increase performance, and increased performance enables higher resolutions.

I also ordered one today, I thought about this forever since the first.
I have to admit, I still am a bit reluctant as it's going to sting should they come with the whopping 4K consumer version end this year, let alone the devkit 3 with 1440p two months for now.

Bad luck though, just got the following message on my order:

Don't worry there will be no DK3, it's just not happening.
Enjoy it for what it is right now, you'll be using it for months yet
Oculus have said from the outset that a new DK will never arrive due to an increase in resolution as this offers game devs no real new features, just a clearer image. The reason we got a DK2 at all is because of the positional head tracking changing the way devs would approach writing games.

That's normal, it'll be about a week now tops. The one at the end of this year might actually be at the start of next because there's the controller SDK to come yet. CV1 will not be 4K, 1440p @ 90hz is likely for the consumer model. There will be no more headset development kits.

Quick word of advice, assuming you bought a DK2 and if you're like me and like to have a bajillion USB things plugged into your computer you might have to unplug some of them to get it working properly, I had to unplug almost everything apart from keyboard and mouse and then after getting the DK2 working fine I was able to plug some stuff back in.

If its your first time experiencing VR then check out some of the free demos available. On Oculus share (https://share.oculus.com/) you can sort them by rating, useful as there is so much on there and you might not know where to start. I can highly recommend Titans of Space

Hi all, I really really want DK2 having read this thread! However, anyone tried it on an iMac? (Waits for groans and grumbles to subside).
Mine is late 2013 with Nvidia 780m 4Gb and an I7 etc.
I feel my credit card trying to get out of my wallet...

Got my Gear VR and let me cheer you all up, if Oculus do use 1440p for retail then it's enough, trust me.
It's so much clearer than my Rift, it's heavenly.

Also got my Leap Motion and while it is great in VR the software is pretty gimmicky so far that I have tried, good fun though

Placed my DK2 order an hour ago... and it's still not arrived.

Not yet got E either... but want the whole thing set up for my first experience. My last Elite experience was Frontiers after Elite on an MSX... which was awesome... Can't wait for this thing with the full immersion!

Now I just need to build a cockpit!

Sadly the flight sticks are gonna have to wait until next paycheck... but hey, life is hard sometimes!

Is the Gear VR worth it? I've got the DK2, but also have a TrackIR, so if the Gear is any good, I'd go Gear+TrackIR.

me too, but i thought cv1 would be out sooner than what people have said in this thread, if i have to wait till 2016 for a decent res, i might just jump in now with plenty of time to save for cv1

I've been waiting for CV1 since the Rift was first proposed... I've finally taken the jump and ordered DK2 because...


At this rate I might be dead before the thing is released!


We're waiting whole digit percentages of our lives for this damn thing to be released... 3 years is 8% of my life to date!


Seriously, life is short... some things you've gotta just say fxxx-it!
