Why are traders playing Open Play?

In the last ten minutes in Yembo, 4 type six transports have Alt-F4'ed on me. Why are you even playing in Open Play? This ticks me off so much, go play on solo if you can't take piracy.

they could be in open so they can compete for the cash prize, you can't get that if you play solo.

Logoffski is low, unsporting, an offense to FD's vision for the game (which is why they plan to do something about it) and something you'll not see me do, because its just freakin' LAME.

Having said that, however, were you pirating (after the cargo not the kill) or planning on killing 'em? Did they have any data to indicate your intentions one way or the other?

If you were pirating, you have the mindless pewpew crowd to thank for this behavior, Traders pulling a logoffski grows in direct proportion to their perception that any other player interdicting them is after their hide, not their cargo. Yes, I know that with that view they should be playing in a mode where they wouldn't have to but in the real world, there will always be a load of 'em that will stay in open and just logoffski when interdicted.

Personally I assume everyone after me is planning on reducing me to space-dust until I find out otherwise. I'll be prepping to fight or run the moment I'm in normal space. Open fire and the fight's on - I'll take you out if I can or do my best to escape if I can't. If I get comms that you want cargo I'll cease fire, and not resume unless negotiations fail or YOU call them off by firing again.

If all that you were after was a cheap kill against an easy target (which a type 6 definitely is, even for the weaker combat ships) then with the greatest respect you are part of the problem because it's folks playing like this that encourages weaker players to logoffski, damaging the game for folks who actually want to play as pirates.

How do you know that they have Alt-F4'd, it is entirely possible that that hit ESC and 'Save and Quit' - which as it stands is a valid way to leave the game .. I am failing to understand this notion that 'Open' is a free for all and if you don't like PvP you should not play in 'Open' mode. why should players who like interaction with others have to join a private group or the 'Mobius' group (which incidentally, if Mobius had not created it would not exist) or play Solo to enjoy the game.
Just because some people think that ED is a PvP battle ground, it really doesn't mean that it is.

I really wish that Multi-player was never introduced, we would definitely have a better and more involved game if they had just ignored the norm.

Can two pirates work together?

1. Pirate 1 pulls the trader out of supercruise, deploys hardpoints, and starts the pew pew.
2. Pirate 2 follows to the dropout point, doesn't deploy hardpoints, and boosts towards the trader and mass locks hims. Clock is ticking...he's got 45 seconds to get in range.
3. Now the trader is toast, unless he deploys hardpoints and decides to fight.

Sound pretty smart actually...
Sure you can play in Mobius, which I am doing. Yet after being back for a week from long range exploration, I still haven't seen a single other commander. I would have expected to see someone by now doing rare trade runs with some exploration in between. It would be better if there was a pve flag, then everyone can stay in open.

So does this mean the prize is flawed? I think so if pilots are avoiding the perils of open play.

FD are addressing the issue and as Robert said above, there is a whole thread discussing the actions they may take so we don't need to go there here. They already said in the "rules" for the contest that they will be reviewing in detail the history of any account claiming any of the prizes. They can spot this behavior. We don't need to be concerned for the competition's integrity at this point.

Last time I was pirated, we negotiated and both flew out of there with some profits, no damage and in fact not a single shot fired. Where in "piracy" is the requirement for anyone to "start the pewpew" unless the "pirate" is really only after the kill or the trader is foolish and tries to fight or run when the pirate(s) have the drop on him?

So, I interdict a trader and he runs, I shoot and shoot to cause damage. How else will they learn to respect the C.O.D.E and pirates in general. This has been my point for some time, it's cheaper for traders to pay the tax than it is to run the gauntlet. Calling them traders is a joke, obviously it's better to pay. Sometimes it's necessary.

if youre under player attack have a 5 minute logoff timer that solves everything, also applies to the pirates attacking people and if attacked back logging as well. It gives the attacking bounty hunter time to take the pirate off ( juts for balance)

Every time, i fire until their shields are gone, and then use a limpet. usually, when the limpet attaches, they bail.

I don't see what is hard to understand, open play is free for all, for combat and everything else. If you don't want to risk PVP then you should play in group or solo mode. If some people think that open is PVP it is. For them and anyone they come across. That is the way the game is designed.

I really wish that Multiplayer was never introduced, we would definitely have a better and more involved game if they had just ignored the norm.

In solo mode it is a zone with no Multiplayer, in fact that is exactly what it is. What I think you meant to say is no player to player combat. Which would be silly as it would mean no player to player pirating or bounty hunting. Which is half the game when you break it up to Trade, exploration, bounty hunting and pirating.

Traders need to understand that Elite: Dangerous is not just a trade sim. EVen in Solo they will still be forced into combat. Combat is half the game by design.

In the last ten minutes in Yembo .....

Why is it that the moment a great project is announced to build a new station and pilots are requested to help in the undertaking, others seem to come along just to kill them? I know it is 'all part of the game' but it would be good to get that new 'Explorers Station' built!

PVP is part of the game and well where there are targets there are pirates, bounty hunters, traders and even explorers.

There are some human players who think a game is only a game when they are killing real players rather than npcs. mmmm sounds like eve online all over gain but yes its part of the game, those players could always move away from yembo and come on up to pand or to tanmark for the land enrichement goal there. Once the devs get more community goals on an automated system and theres say dozens active at once acros the unvierse rather than just stand alone dev injected things the better things will be. But because they havent really got community goals beyond alpha 1.1 we have all this happen

So ED is what you make it and "using your imagination" is needed, why don't those in need of protection just pay the bounty hunters. Better still drop for the pirates and there is a nice mutually beneficial relationship right there. Cut out the middleman and pay the pirates.

horrible title OP, when i first saw it i was fuming, why can't traders play in open, after reading it i saw you was refering to Alt-f4 players now i agree that tactic is just so wrong, but please think before you post such flame bait titles.
