Anyone read the..

Very interesting "terms" had advanced into a regulation: like "troll", "griefing", "flaming", etc. Using these words in a semi-official text makes the whole less professional to me.
I'm really curious how these subjective situations can be regulated in a fair way. Hard days come for moderators :)

The only one that worries me is the Off-Topic. If that is the case, then there will be a LOT of infractions.

If it is used just to keep a topic from being derailed then that is one thing, but since they don't specifically state examples, I am hoping they will use common sense. Otherwise we are all in for a world of 1 points :)

Sort of like keeping to the side exiting and entering a station: Its a good idea in practice, but most don't follow it. <- 1 point.
:p

The Off-topic rule is a really grey area. It's something that all of us moderators actually have a hard time agreeing on from time to time. :p

To the point of it however, Off-topic is making posts or a series of posts to entirely derail a discussion that is ongoing within a thread (effectively a point of no return in a thread). It's sort of a shared infraction type with Spamming. :)

Can we have a red infractions points number somewhere, so we know where we stand?
I can enable those come end-week - they'll show up in your posts on the left side below your username and avatar (if you have any active). :)

I only see good changes.

I still want forum users to be tied to your CMDR name, just like Blizzard does with their games.
I've passed this idea onward. I got the basics of it setup on my end (for these forums), but it isn't setup on the Elite: Dangerous portion. :)

To add to my reply, these rules are mostly a rehash of what rules are currently active. Some of the rules were split off and away from the original #1 rule in the current rule set. The major change to it is a Impact-based infraction system rather a 1 2 3, you're outta here. Currently (and soon to be previously), you may have three warnings active, but your next warning becomes an infraction for a more minor issue (Image Spamming for example), with the current system - that'd earn you a seven day holiday from the boards, which to be honest is a bit wonky.

Now as to paying off your infractions at the local security office... we can discuss those terms behind closed doors if you'd like... ;)

One of the fundamental rules of the internet is that wherever a thread pops up to discuss forum rules, someone ends up getting banned.

Its the off topic thing that worries me.. its fun to see a diverting funny comment in the trail of all these heated arguments over what is just a game. If your going to get a point just for that, all humour in the forum will be lost.

Way of the world . Add rules then add a few more because some Dillon in the office or a moderator forum over thinks everything.

Paragraph 1 subsection 2a says ...

Just do what I do and don't read the rules and just ignore them, everyone else does. Most people are adults and don't need long drawn out rubbish outlining the obvious . I belong to a lot of forums where there is no moderation what so ever and they are the most pleasant informative places to be full of adults who don't get upset when someone calls them an idiot.

A lot of this stuff is posted on web sites to legally disenfranchise companies from people who could post some potential liable content on their forums. The rest is either obvious respect to other users or just continuing drivel made up by bored would be traffic wardens. Not that Ive seen the "rules" but expect the list to grow to epic proportions .

This is just my opinion and is not a reflection of any perceived truth held by FD or indeed any potential recruit traffic wardens.

Its how its implemented though. I have found the mods on here to be perfectly reasonable and i'm sure a funny comment that's supposed to diffuse a heated argument won't be interpreted as breaking the rules. Diverting a thread wildly off topic to have a go at someone for something stupid or flaming etc. is probably what that is about.

I'd like to know what this means:
Roleplay Abuse 30 Days / One Month 1

This one is going to cause gnashing of teeth:
Off-Topic 30 Days / One Month 1

I hope this thread doesn't violate this one:
Moderator Contestment 90 Days / Three Months 5

Love this one:
Circular Threads

I fail to understand why it's such a big deal that Frontier is tightening up on control. Hell, if anything, forum moderation should be ruthless and swift as long as it is fair, and I don't see the problem with the rules. They are, tbh, quite mild in comparison to other communities I am in.

I'm just amazed that nobody has pulled the free speech-card yet :p

There's a spanking new broom-closet stock-full of new brooms just hairing to sweep. A detailed memorandum on how to sweep by the sweepors (the new brooms) is thus vital to retain the integrity of the bristles whilst attending to the vigorous amount of sweeping new brooms tend to do, what with the excitement of pristine bristles and all, which must obviously be tempered to protect the integrity of the sweepees (that's us forum-dwellers).

Goodness knows, without a modicum of restraint exercised by the brooms the excitement may just lead to unkempt vigour, resulting in the entire forum being swept under the rug.......

Yep, a 'How to sweep and be swept' manual is thus an absolute necessity I would have thought.

I'm having all fingers crossed this means Roleplay troll threads where players brag about killing other players in the name of fake RP.
Or like what is in some other forum rules such as "Ongoing and unprovoked abuse is not an appropriate roleplay topic", i.e. roleplaying to hide being a griefer or other nasty sort.

As long as it has nothing to do with 50 Shades of Grey or Jian Ghomeshi. The former would be a cool title for forum rules though.

Some would say the forum rules have more content than the game itself as it stands. Some, would say I hasten to add , not me of course , oh no sir eeee bob :)

No insult to Bob there btw , whoever Bob is. And certainly no derailing the thread about forum rules intended as it is a very important subject . Hell where would we be without rules? "France" I hear Al Murry shout.

Now wheres the broom?

They're more complicated than the actual game! :)

Damn you beat me to the joke

The new forum rules sound tight, yes, but as long as you are polite to others and tell and discuss your open opinion in a mannered way, there is nothing to worry about.
Thats how a good minded individual behaves anyway, even without rules. I don´t see any problems here.

I'm most worried about this one

Non-English posts in English only forum 30 Days / One Month 1

Something my posts have often been accused of!

Hopefully it wont send the grammar police into overdrive :D
