Have they buffed the point defence turret?

I just realized my point defense shoots like a bat out of hell now, that thing took out all sorts of missile fire just now


At least 10 turret shots a second.
 
It's not just our own turrets, it's the AI turrets as well. Had to get rid of my dumbfire missile racks as they became practically useless as the turrets on big ships (which is what I had them for) just wipe them out more than half the time. It's a shame because they were fun to use and added variation, now I've just got 4 multicannons instead.

They're actually working now and the bug that stopped them taking down dumb fires was also fixed.

I seemed to read somewhere that you could fairly easily target the turrets and take them out?

So with this they also just made missiles obsolete. When you have something that completely negates a weapon system it makes said weapon system pointless or the weapon system manufacturer finds a way to make them more lethal. Sounds as though point defence is 100% effective which would then make a missile manufacturer develop a mass firing missile system that makes smaller missile to do less damage but some get through.

Making your own weapon obsolete in your own game is kind of silly.

What it does fix is the tactic of ripple firing missiles at a target with the sure knowledge that they can't be stopped and the missiles will do huge shield and hull damage.

I realise that you have to choose your loadout but bigger ships can carry almost all the counter measures, can't they? Anyway, my point is about authenticity - who buys missiles when there's such a 100% effective counter for it. I'm thinking it shouldn't be 100% - there should at least be a chance of one getting through?
 
Yes they now work, and yes missiles are still effective against bigger ships, (make sure you have the shields down first) you just have to get close (Under 500 meters) this way the point defense can not react fast enough.

Saturation fire. One will get through.

In any event, if it's authenticity you're after then they are correct as they are at present. Target the point defence systems first before firing missiles and say a quite prayer of thanx that large ships are not fitted with the equivalent of a modern-day Kashtan system.
 
Just pop the PD, and then fire your missiles.
In order to hit their point defense you first need to drop the shield. When a shield goes down, most run. When a shield goes down Multi-cannons absolutely destroy hull's. Why bother with missiles when they are useless? Why bother shooting point defense (not to mention taking the time to select it) When most ships fold like an empty beer can to multi-cannons? Hull armor is incredibly weak, even adding armor to it for the most part is pointless as Multi-cannons tear though them like a hot knife through butter. But oh wait... lets just 'balance' multi-cannons right? Make them useless like missiles right? Frontier really knows how to make a game fun don't they? Maybe we'll get another solid patch like 1.1 right?

Jex, the only 100% effective counter is turning off your PC and not playing. No defense is ever 100% and tactics will always play a role. You are automatically assuming point defense will kill everything when it simply can't. Today's carriers have missile defenses, dedicated screening ships, electronic warfare jammers, CIWS, etc. but no carrier captain will ever state they are invulnerable to everything.

From what I've seen, you're (un)lucky if the traders carry shields, never mind a panoply of counter-measures.
 
All large ships have multiple utility slots. the asp for example has 4. Why bother with a kill warrant scanner when you simple bounty hunt in one of the factions space? Even the asp has 4 utility slots. So you're guaranteed to run into point defense. And even a single one has 10000 charges! Missiles do squat to shields. Missiles are pointless anymore. I will never fit another missile since Multi-cannons absolutely destroy ships. Frontier are completely inept in properly addressing the situation. Is its clear to me after the fiasco of 1.1 they care less about what anyone has to say and release utter garbage.
