I just realized my point defense shoots like a bat out of hell now, that thing took out all sorts of missile fire just now
At least 10 turret shots a second.
It's not just our own turrets, it's the AI turrets as well. Had to get rid of my dumbfire missile racks as they became practically useless as the turrets on big ships (which is what I had them for) just wipe them out more than half the time. It's a shame because they were fun to use and added variation, now I've just got 4 multicannons instead.
So with this they also just made missiles obsolete. When you have something that completely negates a weapon system it makes said weapon system pointless or the weapon system manufacturer finds a way to make them more lethal. Sounds as though point defence is 100% effective which would then make a missile manufacturer develop a mass firing missile system that makes smaller missile to do less damage but some get through.
Making your own weapon obsolete in your own game is kind of silly.
Not everyone carries Point Defense, so your point is not quite correct.
What it does fix is the tactic of ripple firing missiles at a target with the sure knowledge that they can't be stopped and the missiles will do huge shield and hull damage.
Anyway, my point is about authenticity - who buys missiles when there's such a 100% effective counter for it. I'm thinking it shouldn't be 100% - there should at least be a chance of one getting through?
In order to hit their point defense you first need to drop the shield. When a shield goes down, most run. When a shield goes down Multi-cannons absolutely destroy hull's. Why bother with missiles when they are useless? Why bother shooting point defense (not to mention taking the time to select it) When most ships fold like an empty beer can to multi-cannons? Hull armor is incredibly weak, even adding armor to it for the most part is pointless as Multi-cannons tear though them like a hot knife through butter. But oh wait... lets just 'balance' multi-cannons right? Make them useless like missiles right? Frontier really knows how to make a game fun don't they? Maybe we'll get another solid patch like 1.1 right?Just pop the PD, and then fire your missiles.

Why bother with a kill warrant scanner when you simple bounty hunt in one of the factions space?
