If Frontier were at least honest with their player crowd and would just call Elite: Dangerous what it is:
An open, WIP Pay-to-playtest Beta.
An open, WIP Pay-to-playtest Beta.

Marketing and PR in fact didn't suggest any of that. People created their own hype around game. What FD did wrong is that they didn't specify during beta what will be reachable for 1.0.
However, such threads treat game as it is nothing - which is complete, utter nonsense. ED 1.0 had so much to go for and 1.1 is even better. Either there's some alternative world where games are released at once with 10x more content and I just don't getting it.
ED is very bare bones with only the most basic functionality available. By any objective measure, it's nowhere near what anyone would call a complete game. I suggest you look into the advertising as well, it seems like you don't really know what you're talking about.
So there's your problem, a complete inability to be objective. Add in to that taking it personally when people point out flaws and no real understanding of the topic at hand and that leaves you posts like the above.
I think the main frustration for me is too many loose ends, mining had big ideas/scope, but then was all cut back to meet a release date, since then no attempt has been made to finish that scope. Planet scanning suffered the same fate also. I won't go into all of them as I don't have time. Then with all those loose ends hanging in the vacuum, another feature is added, which of course will not fill the scope designed, yes i'm on about 'wings' mark my words there will be loose ends there too.
I just wish they would stick to scope, or remove content referring to scope not developed. For example Cargo Insurance, Surface Scan levels 2&3 and Target holograms missing...
Please, someone grab the rains and stop the carriage! - Finish the the seats, then add a reading lamp! For the love of the universe PLEASE!
<snip>I also seriously considered getting the Mustang Alpha pack to get into the SC Arena Commander<snip>
Man, this forum can be exhausting!
By my conservative estimate, I have played E|D for at least 80 hours already. My daughter just finished The Last of Us, one of the highest-rated games in the last couple of years, in just over 20 hours. So I've already gotten four times the value from E|D, and it's just getting started.
I don't know if people are fatigued from playing Beta, or if E|D is attracting a lot of *ahem* older gamers who've been away from things so long that they don't have a realistic comparison, but this is a GOOD game, Folks.
What you see as a shell, I see as a solid platform to build on. We've not even reached v1.2 yet either man. Give it a year and lets see where we are then.
They can't even fix the stutter which has been complained about for months!
Honestly, please stop with that. People buy games with less content. ED 1.0 has quite a lot to going for. People have sinked 30 - 80 hours into game - and that's for single buy game!
If anything, this and other threads are just pointless exercises in gamer's entitlement.
...But if people buy a game being marketed as "release ready", it should be release ready. Not endless beta or I would suggest truly alpha because some things are clearly still place-holder. It's nonsense and is becoming a plague on the gaming community. It's just another marketing gimmick to grab your money and people defend it....
Having been called a paid shrill myself before I showed my true colours here, I have to wonder if a certain Mr P isn't in fact one. Either that or he has unlimited optimism which we should learn to tap in to as a power source for the whole planet at this rate.
You said it Buster!![]()
I'm pretty much out of all early access and kickstarter games now after being burnt multiple times.
ED was my first Kickstarter but considering how it's all turned out I won't be backing anymore (I did back 2 more after ED)
Not that ED is bad per say, it's not, it's a good foundation, I'm just sick of foundations.

...So instead, what I do is simply to hope there will be enough time, money, dedication and patience present among the developers and the playerbase, in order for ED to mature into a "real" game. Time will tell, probably rather sooner than later.
