Sign of things to come? Rampant PK'er/exploiter finds himself exiled

Almost all of the multiplayer communities I've been part of have unsavoury elements and while they've never ruined a game for me I would have preferred to play without them. Examples being spawn campers in ARMA Wastleand/DayZ, incessant trash talkers in League etc.. They don't enhance the game experience and while what they do isn't necessarily against the rules it does seem to be rather against the spirit of the game.

If it is true people are being sidelined in an instance full of other similarly ill behaved players then I have no issue with that. Provided adequate controls/review procedures are in place to ensure only those that deserve it end up there then I don't see why it's an issue. If people are going to be needlessly offensive and abuse game mechanics to spoil other people's fun then I don't particularly want them in my instance. Though of course this is all speculation until official confirmation/denial appears I would say it's a pretty great solution to the problem of cheaters/abusers/etc.

What ED needs is customers who play within the bounds of civilised behaviour. What it doesn't need is players who kill others 'because they can' or because 'I'm role-playing a psychopath' or whatever other cruddy self-serving justification they come up with for being jerks.
Michael has posted (Can't be bothered to look it up, someone who is trying to justify the unjustifiable might do so later) to say that playing the psychopath is perfectly acceptable game play approach. The griefers try to use that as justification for their approach, but leave out the rest of Michael's comment: but with consequences. Here, at last, it looks like we may have some consequences. Manually handled one-off consequences are much better than nothing, but we still need the in-game consequences occurring naturally without players having to be reported and FD having to take action.

Absolutely, which is why I keep on about the need for them. If killers were treated like killers I bet we'd see a 95% fall in Clean killing overnight.

what dont u guys get about this clean killers wanted killers pirates all acceptable pvp game play thats not what this guy was up to he was up to so much more

I haven't read all this thread. I thought I'd best get in before... the inevitable, but instead of banning him completely to Coventry, wouldn't it be better to limit his contact with other players to Anarchy systems? Having PKers like him around those systems would differentiate them a little more from what should be safer systems.

For me, a griefer is anyone who behaves like a..... and here i run into the swear filter issue, because i simply cannot express what i want to say without resorting to naughty words. But hopefully you get the idea ;) Adjectives like gigantic, massive and total can be used. Certain parts of the male and female anatomy come into play. References to improper relations, especially on the maternal side could be considered. :D

Thanks for an awesome reply :D

Que? What?

They are saying that no matter their status, everyone is a valid target.

What the banned player in question was doing was beyond that in that they were being verbally abusive and exploiting flawed mechanics to kill players outside of actually having a real, skilled dog fight.

Umm he's back guys :) The temporary "ban?" was just that, temporary. If you find it on the reddit, he's copy/pasted the msg from customer service telling him that they investigated his account and then lifted the restrictions on him.

Well, types like the one this thread is about only add danger in the only place of a system where that particular type of danger shouldn't exist: the Station.

Now that is ridivulous. :(

FDEV stance on griefing w/ exploits: yess, more of this!

if this is true then it pretty much confirms my home is in the mobius group at all times unless gaming with friends who insist on ALL.

oh well no biggie!. Shame for me, tho it seems there will be a few relieved CMDRs who can get back to business as usual around certain hot spots..

Not to mention I spent years putting up with verbally annoying twerps on the xbox, and was hoping it would not be so bad on PC.

Thanks. I'll take your word for it.

Now, that`s some good news.

Well done FD. Can we assume you'll be changing the Terms and Conditions to 'do what you want, we don't care'?

Well it means, that FD seems not to ban out of the reasons mentioned in this thread, and that they inform the player when sth. happens to their account. I think that`s good news.
With the latter part I can agree, but fhe former? As a real world analogy (yes analogies are never perfect, but you get my gist), you'd be telling me that letting a serial killer who has confessed the killings and been witnessed doing them to walk away because the police who arrested him didn't phone him beforehand, telling "I'm coming to arrest you"... :S

If this is true, please take this as my 'I quit' message.

I would like to hear why he was banned in the first place, whether this was a warning ban (strike one or something) or if it was all mistake.

I could see FD retracting the ban if they failed to properly inform the commander of the reasons for a ban. If only to avoid the bad response here, on reddit and possibly with press.

Edward said he'd update us...seems there is something worthy of updating now, hmm?

But you have to remember KILLING PEOPLE in the ED universe is OK... Cheating is not, He was not found cheating. Moral STAY in solo if you want to be safe...

Here is the text that was posted, go find it yourself if you want to see more Its in the main reddit ED subreddit.

Concerning short-term ban

Hey XXXXXX (if you don't mind me calling you that),
Just wanted to drop you a line because I couldn't find an email address for you, and I wanted to make sure I had the right person to contact.
We noticed a bit of strange activity on your account, and had to put some restrictions on it for a short time as we investigated. You'll see that the restriction should have been lifted by now.
Feel free to share that information as you wish.
We'll be making the restriction procedure public as soon as possible - so people are completely clear on when, why and how restrictions have been placed on their account.
Thanks!
