Sign of things to come? Rampant PK'er/exploiter finds himself exiled

I'm just really curious as to what type of person he really is and why he feels driven to do this. I feel like I want to know his past and what has to break psychologically to want to do this type of thing? I suppose that's kind of like asking why ISIS goes around beheading people though....

For all we know this could be a hardworking, tax paying, loving caring father who legitimately blows off steam the only way he knows how. Maybe he's a 19 year old kid who was bullied his entire life and feels like this gives him the revenge he needs. Maybe he has PTSD or some other type of psychological trauma and this really helps? Maybe he think's he's actually sick of broken games and this is his way of making a protest?

So many possibilities, I'm so curious. If he's out there reading this, let's make it into a story and post it in the GalNet.

You'll never know. He's just some random dude on the internet. If he told you that grass was green and the sky was blue I'd go outside and double-check, just to be sure.

This guy must be fun at parties.

"Wow, looks like everyone is having a great time and they're really enjoying the music! Let's see how loud this stereo system goes!"
*cranks the volume* <people start complaining and leaving the party>
"<snip>The stereo GOES that loud! I have fun by making the stereo's at parties go as loud as they possibly can!"

Party host: "Sir, please watch your language and don't touch that stereo. If you will just step into this room, we have a special stereo set-up just for you."

Like on that episode of the Office where they go on the cruise and the captain of the ship let's Dwight steer the ship on the fake steering wheel?

Haha, I totally agree with this. And you're right, he's just some random dude on the internet. But in the end we're all just people behind those IP addresses and data streams with our own thoughts, feelings, and history. There's always two sides to every story, and somewhere in between in that gray murky area, there's the truth.

i would take this with a pinch of salt. there is no proof that he actually got banned.

my opinion on this is that: a) the ban is justified if he verbally abused other players and b) i don't agree to the ban if he did only grief other players in pvp. he killed other players within the rules of the game. he did not hack according to the videos he posted on youtube. it's not nice, quite the opposite but it's still within the rules of the game and hence, does not justify a ban.

None of the things besides verbal abuse is actually against the game rules.

There are no rules when it comes to killing people in Elite if there were you wouldn't be able to do it to begin with.

All of what he did is just annoying, that's all.

I read his explanation on Reddit.

I wouldn't be surprised if he were banned for a violation of the rules but they decided to reverse the ban because the acceptable use policy/banning criteria were too poorly defined, especially re: the lack of notification of punishment.

Now they're going to clearly(?) define what is/isn't bannable, and all the prerequisites for pre-ban notification.

We'll see if he can keep clear of these!

I work with a guy just like this, hehe. He's about 4 offices down from me. He's not very well liked to put it mildly. As a high-level member of Goon in EVE, he hooked me up with alot of free stuff a couple years ago, but I have played EVE, Star Wars TOR, ArchAge and FF14 with him at various times, and he's always pushing to min/max, but it's legitimately strange. He only plays MMOs to grief other players, not for his own enjoyment. In fact, the only time he really acts like he's having fun is when other players get angry with him or send him angry messages ingame. He screenshots them all and has them together in a very large Word document that he reads all the time. Sometimes he shows me recent ones here at work, and the literal joy in his face as he's reading them to me is a little disturbing. I really don't understand people like this, that only play games to try to ruin the experience for other players. To each his own I guess, but in my coworker's case, he has some real social problems in real life which directly translate to how he plays his games.

How do you know he didn't use hacks? Because he said so? If that is your only proof that's hardly reliable. People that act like this in game are simply projecting their real self. They are shallow, hollow individuals that are devoid of any moral grounding. In short, they are cowards to the core and can only muster strength in a virtual world without r/l ramifications. Hardly reliable, and their word is worthless. I would believe nothing he says, nor give him any relevance whatsoever.

-.- please see my other post where I explain why I don`t think it is very likely that he is a cheater. Apart from that: please respect the forum rules, we all know who this thread is about, so please stop this kind of commentary.

From what we have seen, the 'strange activity on his account' was deemed to not be an issue. That activity may, or may not, have been connected to the subjects we have all been going round in circles talking about on this thread. Far too premature for you to be celebrating.

Can we expect any clarity on what behaviours will be bannable?

I am expecting to have that ready around the same time, too! Taking our time to get it right.

I'm no lawyer, but I believe that statement regarding U.S. freedom of speech is false. You cannot say "anything" legally with no ramification. A cursory google search will provide instances when freedom of speech is unprotected. While threatening is one of the areas, it is not the only one. Another is when you enter into an agreement through terms of use to us a service with a service provider or another party.

In the US, 1st Amendment rights are limited to public and political speech, not private speech, libel, slander, or that which is directly involving a private party or entity (Ie: a private company).

I think you should should probably read some of the points brought up. Language in and of itself isn't necessarily illegal, but by playing the game you enter into an agreement via the EULA/licensing agreement to certain standards and conduct to be held to.

I assumed he was exaggerating on that. No screen shot or it didn't happen (grin). All the killing that he did well, we know that was factual

The trading exploit has thankfully been fixed in 1.1

It seemed relatively easy and netting 30mCr an hour was doable according to the reports I've seen on the net.

Lmao i hope that's a true story. You should totally make a documentary on him.

Your source is some "journalist" working at a tabloid?

And the case they're discussing is some horrible person who races through school zones?

While I fully agree with you, you should pick your sources better.

I thought it was a pretty good example. If anyone doubts the content of the story they are free to look into it.

It almost sounds like mild autism. That would make a LOT of sense in both cases. From my own experiences with autism (nephew), he has difficulty expressing his own feelings and recognizing the feelings of others. It's like he has feelings (obviously), but completely tunes them out. I suppose this is getting a bit off topic though...

Yep reading it, it does. Specifically Asperger syndrome.

It's why I hate people going around here shouting PSYCHOPATH at everyone. It means they don't truly understand what a sociopath is and are just using the generic media-laden term to push their own prejudices.

For a start they should really go away and watch this:

Anyway to come back on point here, yes sounds like Asperger syndrome

Asperger syndrome is a form of autism, which is a lifelong disability that affects how a person makes sense of the world, processes information and relates to other people. Autism is often described as a 'spectrum disorder' because the condition affects people in many different ways and to varying degrees.

Asperger syndrome is mostly a 'hidden disability'. This means that you can't tell that someone has the condition from their outward appearance. People with the condition have difficulties in three main areas. They are:

* social communication
* social interaction
* social imagination.

It's why gaming attracts many people who suffer from it. Because it's not only a hidden disability, but also the player is hidden behind the anonymity of the internet in general it upsets me when people go around shouting it, and in a way maybe some of them also suffer from it because they don't understand that they are showing signs of a lack of social communication.

People need to lay off using that word around here.
