Nah, think so? Don't think it's conflicting to have one opinion on how things should be, while simultaneously knowing it's not up to me to make it so.Kind of shot down your own argument right there...

Yeah, I realise that the brutality in open mode may be a bit exaggerated by this forum, and that it's not always that bad. Though many, including myself, has the impression that open mode is a very dangerous place, and that's enough to discourage it.
Seonid you must be very far out....I regularly see 4 or five CMDRs in a system all at once.
See, I feel it does affect me simply because right now I'm a pirate/trader and there just aren't enough targets for me....how selfish...however I'm fully committed to staying in open and being the target once I get the funds. or maybe I'll bottle it....

Im around Founders and Achenar normally. I occasionally see the odd commander, rarely two. Maybe the matchmaking favours geographical proximity.
Maybe some of us wanted an offline game [THAT WE WERE PROMISED!] and didn't want to play an online game at all. Playing solo is a protest vote as far as I'm concerned.Yeah, I realise that the brutality in open mode may be a bit exaggerated by this forum, and that it's not always that bad. From my experience of dozens of online games, there are good players and there are those who's sole aim is to ruin other people's enjoyment of it. Sadly, I have noticed an increase in the latter as games go on. Maybe some players get bored and decide to harass others instead for their own amusement, maybe there are other reasons. However, it has happened with EVERY online game I have ever played and I have no doubt the Elite will be no different. Also, as the player base increases, commodity markets will get flooded quickly which then makes trading a complete no-go for new players and the first thing they need to do is trek halfway across the map to find a quieter system. I would rather have a single player game where I can play it the way I want to, even playing solo, I don't get that luxury because the economy depends on open, group and solo players alike.
The OP is titled "No incentives to trade in open(long)" - there is an implicit reference to the game modes and incentives (or lack thereof) for playing in open. As the thread has developed, it has shifted much further towards the oft repeated discussion on the relative merits of the three game modes and the ability to switch between them. For this reason the thread has been merged.
Well for myself, I wrote the OP to discuss the proposed changes to the interdiction model and the impact that will have - which I expect will push people from open into solo/group while they are trading. It wasn't really intended to be about the open/solo divide in general, it was about the changes. However now that I found the thread and read through it I can see alot of the discussion is about the broader open/solo issue which was probably not surprising given the title I chose. So I suppose I can't complain about the merge, though I would have preferred if it had developed into a discussion on the topic I wanted to talk about. Ho hum, I will pick a better title next time I try to start a thread conversation.
I'm a trader, but I think your argument makes perfect sense. The option of solo mode makes open a shallower place.See, I feel it does affect me simply because right now I'm a pirate/trader and there just aren't enough targets for me....how selfish....
It's a no-brainer that the changes will make Open less attractive for the minority that still trade exclusively in the Rares clusters. it's only a question of scale. It's pretty certain people aren't playing in Solo because Open isn't dangerous enough for their tastes.
There. Fixed that for you.
Fact is, plenty of traders in open don't have a problem with interdictions.
I wonder if the lave area is frequented as much in solo mode....I bet it is....Grrr, they should be in open at the bottom of the food chain.
So the cloaking device did make it to Elite Dangerous.....
That's one way to look at it I guess.
Hell yeah....With all those Rares at Diso, Lave, Orrere, Uszaa (etc)........we're flying under your nose every day.......... hehehe.......
