Lakon type 9 or Python?

Thanks to an excellent piece of advice I read on here somewhere I swap an 8T cargo rack for a fuel scoop

So, assuming you can refill at maximum rate, you are spending 3m1s refilling, according to http://www.edshipyard.com/#/L=305,mpV5QG5QG,2-BkAA8c72BkAA8I,08c08c7Uw072mpU2Uc4zM02M

If you can run a leg in 6 minutes, those 3 minutes wasted could on average net you half a cargo hold worth of profit. Plus the 8-10k you could have got from the 8T you replaced with the fuel scoop on that particular run.

Hard to judge if the scooping nets you more profit, or less. My guess is that doesn't matter much, so I don't bother with the re-outfitting every 3 runs or so.

How much cash have you got currently ?

42 mill now and 22 px on the t7. Thinking I will get to 60 mill and buy the python outright, keep it in dock and run the t7 and upgrade the python along the way. May just take it out and fly around the station for a bit though....not going anywhere without insurance though! Not feeling the t9 anymore tbh, I can make 4/5 mill an hour in the 7 on a one jump trade route, 1000 ls at one end but worth it for an easy secure route.

I am on the Python camp. I owned a T-9 once, worst ship in the game that I've ever owned (I haven't got an Orca & Dropship, so that title might change). I sold it and bought the Python instead (I went to T-9 straight from Clipper), no regrets.

Now that my long term goal is collecting all ships, I will buy the T-9 again and fit it for trading, but it will never leave the dock for an actual trading run, ever.

60 million will only just leave you enough for the insurance and no upgrades. I would suggest that the absolute minimum you need to have is 20 million spare. 25 million makes it a bit easier and 30 million over will leave you mostly safe.

I'd have at least 67M Cr + whatever it cost to buy 284T of your most expensive commodity (Imperial Slaves?) before buying the Python. I will also monitor community goals. Combat ones seem to have major discount for ships & outfitting, and it's only a matter of time where the station involved will have a Python for cheap (I am looking out for Python/Dropship/ClipperOrca/T-9 myself, all my other ships and most of their outfittings are already 20% off)

Here's my Python during it's trading days

I completely agree with Sams.
60 million is totally ineffective when you want a Python that is able to survive.
It might be doable in solo, but in multi player this is waiting for an accident to happen.
Even in solo you might encounter some strong aggressive 1.1 npc pirate that will cost you a lot of money in repairs. I have met some pretty cool npc opponents lately that are very challenging when they attack you together. It is great to encounter these, but not when you fly an underachieving ship.
In short: Do not take the risk. I feel 90 or 100 million is what you need to be effective when you want to buy a Python.

A T9 is only good for 2 things. The first thing is to grind you the cash the buy an Anaconda as soon as possible. The second is to set fire to it after achieving the first one.

Who cares the Anaconda carries 70 tons less than a T9. It flies better, jumps further, can do much more, is more fun, looks cooler and all can do that hauling 432 tons of cargo.

So if you fancy a Conda, buy a T9 and get rid of it asap. If you want fun, take the Python.

its can also help buy old ships and kiting them out a lot faster

My Anaconda is trading spec so 452 cargo with enough shields to cover bumps and scrapes.

The 48 less cargo is made up by its speed and manoeuvrability. On a single jump, short distance to station route, the T9 is the better ship. For any other type of trading route the Anaconda will make more credits per hour.

The plan is to buy the python and leave it dry docked as I trade in the t7 to buy bits for it, when I have good enough bits I will begin to fly it. I would rather have it and see what the mods I need costs than aim for x cr and find I don't have enough to do what I want. I reckon is going to be a 200 mill ship by the time i'm done though.
