OverCharged Weapons

For the longest time I had no idea they'd even removed them, I thought people were just having a hard time finding them because they were inherently rare. It took a lot of work creating all those modules and it felt like it had all gone to waste and no one even told me. In any case the new system should be way better and can apply to everything, not just weapons. So you might find a shield generator that generates a much more powerful shield than normal but say isn't as resistant to collisions or something.

Hello Mike!

Nice example with the shield, to make a choice based on facts we would need to see a value for collision withstanding for the different shields .....
will we see some values in outfitting that are showing this advantages / disadvantages, if the get the variants again?

Yeah pretty much. But applied to other modules too. We have a whole system of essentially "crafting" them from various resources and the like ;) or finding them in wrecks but it's a lot of work and will take a while I suspect.

Sorry for not getting this: does this mean players are gonna craft equipment themselves? Or is the "crafting" aspect restricted to the procedural / random creation of weapons by the game?

Thinking out loud even further - you can imagine an explorer sacrificing a few extra watts of power in return for a slightly faster surface scanner .....
A few watts of power? I'd happily sacrifice your right arm for a faster surface scanner :D

wait what?
thats awesome! hopefully some of the lower end ressources from mining will get a use then

However in future we have an updated system for creating a more procedural variants for modules that will do the same thing as these hard coded weapons.

To me this is spectacular news. I love this. It reminds me of what Borderlands does.
Stuff like this should be in a newsletter.

Yeah, great. 10 tonnes iron + 1 tonne silver + 1 tonne palladium + button click = Supercharged A5 FSD.

Please clarify that it's NOT going to be fantasy MMO crap Mike, for the love of a hint of a semblance of plausibility! :p

It would be nice with nitrogen cooling systems for beam lasers or maybe overcharged plasma/rail guns. Very expensive but give 1-2 % boost in dmg. The module sits around the gun and effects show when its working and cooling the laser. Like steam and vapour ejecting from vents and cool sounds. An idea for crafting a custom cooling module.

Nice, when will crafting modules and finding them in ship wrecks be in-game?

<Shudder> I really wish you hadn't used that word. :(

Amen to that.

See!

Howsabout 1 A5 FSD module + 1 tonne of Very Rare Starship Components + 1 route to off-the-charts outpost + strong positive reputation with NPC weaponsmith + 1 million credits = Supercharged A5 FSD, in a real-time week

Would presume the modules are broken down into smaller units such as power supply etc., and you craft a module from these units.

nah, you would be able to create a "Greatsword of the Snakeslayer +10" so that you can hunt Cobras, Vipers, Pythons, Anacondas...
Just strap it on a torpedo and launch them.

i would guess you would need some of those materials to refine them at a station or so. Dont think you would be able to "craft" them in deep space.
And credits + weapon = Overcharged weapon would also be...boring^^

As long as there are always tradeoffs (like the Overcharged weapons really did have), then it should be fine.

I'd even wish it would replace the grading systems, though I would probably want to have them as 'branded' instead.

I think Power Distributors could really benefit, to have fast charging ones with lower capacitors, or higher capacitor ones, or ones specialised and have a larger 'engines' (for example) capacitor than the other two.

That's more like it. :) That's basically getting a specialist to modify/pimp/tune your rig and that's plausible. What I really, really wouldn't like to see is crafting from ores, or even components. We're spaceship commanders, not scientists. That type of stuff fits in fantasy MMOs but in this game it would just be silly (IMHO).

I would love to see they implement that for no other reason than seeing your brain melt! :D

..

Or maybe not... ;)

I do remember them talking about finding rare specialist at some point way back on a couple of occasions so that seems like a more likely solution.

Hurray an answer at last as to where they had gone! Its a shame they don't exist still but w/e at least I know they don't now

So glad you are looking into a form of crafting.

It will add a lot more to Mining instead of just mining for the most expensive resource. :D

This is just jawdropping for me.
As I understand it, you put alot of work into a game feature and noone informs you that it isn't even part of the actual gameplay anymore?
What if you were working on them in the meantime?

And thank you for getting in touch with us.
It is thrilling to hear what is going to come. (of course, no-guaranteeTM and soonTM :D )

I sincerely hope this is not the case, and Mike means "crafting" from salvaged/purchased parts by visiting a weapons specialist or similiar.

1 tonne alien artifacts + 15 tonnes comp components + X tonnes of mined materials + unname module + have to be N distance from sun + etc + etc = something useful.

It could work you know.....
