OverCharged Weapons

I sincerely hope this is not the case, and Mike means "crafting" from salvaged/purchased parts by visiting a weapons specialist or similiar.

It's more about earning special resources specifically for this system by doing various activities. Not just mine x resource and the use it to make a new weapon. It's more involved and deliberate.

So a little like the journey to earn an "epic" weapon in World of Warcraft?
That would seriously add some depth and new goals!

edit: for those not familiar with WoW:
It usually involved killing special "bosses" or similiar activities to gather the necessary ingredients to finally craft the desired weapon.
And often took quite some time to make it a "real" achievement, something to be proud of and being memorable.

Yeah pretty much. But applied to other modules too. We have a whole system of essentially "crafting" them from various resources and the like ;) or finding them in wrecks but it's a lot of work and will take a while I suspect.

Crafting confirmed??? :)

EDIT: Saw the latest responses, nevermind!

Kinda like the way you talk about it as I see your avatar lol

My avatar is (was) an extract of an in game message of somebody killing David Braben after he opened fire from his T9 (brave soul if you ask me), the full message was "you received 200 CR for killing criminal Braben", I just thought it was a funny message and thus put it as my avatar, but apparently it was mistaken for soem kind of attack.

I'd like to clarify, I have absolutely NOTHING against Frontier Developments, David BRABEN, or the dev team. I appreciate and enjoy their work more than most peopel in here from what I read. I might do a lot of posts "complaining" about the lack of X/Y but see it as constructive criticism/feedback for the team to take into consideration. Sorry if it was taken as anything else...

This is the video from which I extracted my ex-avatar

This is what my avatar was

Sorry for any harm done, it was not meant.

I said there was no ETA because we genuinely don't know if or when we can do this. I know the design team wants it, and the game almost needs it but as with anything it's not a trivial amount of work and thus could be pushed back and or cut completely. But hopefully that won't happen. Suffice to say it's been designed but work hasn't even started on it as far as I'm aware.

For the longest time I had no idea they'd even removed them, I thought people were just having a hard time finding them because they were inherently rare. It took a lot of work creating all those modules and it felt like it had all gone to waste and no one even told me. In any case the new system should be way better and can apply to everything, not just weapons. So you might find a shield generator that generates a much more powerful shield than normal but say isn't as resistant to collisions or something.

Nope. I got nothing.

The fact that you said "the game almost needs it" makes me so happy. Might I be so bold as to suggest when Planetary Landings come along you are probably going to need this for here (factories on planets). While it's a shame it can't happen sooner I think you'd agree the "needs it" part would most definitely be for then.

I use need it more to mean to replace the fact we did have variant weapons before but not now. The added depth will definitely improve the game I'm sure though.

Reading your comment, it seems you misunderstood his answer a little.
It's about a (maybeTM, noETA-TM, wantedTM) feature, nothing implemented.
If i got you wrong, shame on me :)

I was commenting more on "For the longest time I had no idea they'd even removed them" bit, considering most of my...rants...have been about the communication within Frontier, and outside of it as well (the whole three times to send a simple tweet thing last night was most palm-in-face worthy). This didn't add to my confidence. But I've decided to stop putting the boot in and just go back to trying to enjoy the game - at least I can continue to make my videos without too much fuss.

I think this might be the most important feature for me. Not the "craftig" part, but more options to customize and play around with your ship and equipment.

Anyway, thanks for the infos Mike, procedurally generated weapons and modules sounds awesome, it's going to add so much depth to loadouts.

Can't wait for an overcharged Plasma Acc., literally melts when you fire it :D

Before we get all excited about our new loadouts, temper this with the words that is a 'probably maybe soontm ' type thing, rather than 'it'll be in 1.3'.

There was a recent interview with DB where his answer to the complaints about grinding were "yes, there it is too grindy at the start". The start is balanced imho. It's after the Cobra / t6 that it gets silly. This had me worried that they don't know how their own game plays.

Mike's comments says they do, and makes me happy

What I like about the Soon™ is that at least, we know it's coming, it's not a Maybe™, it's a confirmed feature that we know we'll get :)

Well - if the dev team who have been working on it want some support - you've got it.

No idea how the thread degenerated into crafting, but just the basic concepts of "variants" of equipment, and means other than just buying them with cash, or their existence in every corner of space would be enough to make me clap and shout and throw money.

Crafting is a much needed occupation in Elite, mostly to make mining an actual viable occupation.
