Galnet News: The sorry fate of Hank Stone

There were two asteroid belts.

One was metals, the second one rock when I prospected same day.

Last time I checked they were both Rock, when the station arrived.

There is one planet with metals, but, common ore's nothing, precious (if you ask me).....unless that has changed too???

Basically, it two factions fighting for control right now.
Plenty of action to see which one comes out on top.

I ended up there quite by accident last night and saw a few commanders buzzing around. Certainly did not have the same feel as Yembo did. They were all flying solid gold anacondas though, so maybe there is something to the story? :p

Quick, someone send a Morse message over to your local GalNet reporter, let them know about the Spaceflies spotted way outside of the system from the direction of Hutton Orbital. See how long they take to make it front page news.

Genus - something like this? I'll write it - you post it over there!!!

- Date and time for the news item/event 27 Feb 3301
- Title – Hutton Orbital
- Description –

Speculation has been rife that Spaceflies have been spotted in the space lanes on the approach to Hutton Orbital. These mythical creatures from the X-Universe were once thought to provide innate FSD capability. Scientists from Lakon Research have been rumoured to pay many credits for the capture of such a creature.

Thanks to CMDR Genus for the head's up!

- Commander Name - CMDR Sheehy of the Reorte Chronicle

PS I take it you'd be the first to head over there in an overpowered viper the day that would get posted?

I've let off an Advanced Disco in that system a few times. What you see is what you get I'm afraid.

Would be Willow-the-Wisp, if it wasn't more Evil Edna.

Have you tried parking up at the station??

It moves, it flies away from you at FSD velocities, and then sits unattainably out of reach, you have to over-accelerate your approach, can't just stay in the blue-zone.

This system is weird and buggy.

and then there are those two dots in my viewport

I did (thanks to fellow commander for the tip), you just need to wait on its path rather than chase it, and then you can jump from SC, and dock in the station fine. Nothin special there unfortunatelly.

yes indeed. Followed it for some time, although it did seem to be "manouvering" at one point, hence my inquisitive following of it. Very odd.

Fast orbit? I remember hearing about an explorer who jumped in to a system with a black hole circling the main star at just beyond scooping range (i.e. just where you'd arrive in the system.) He was checking out what was in the system when the black hole orbited the star and jumped him from the other side. There's some fast moving stuff out there.

Not only is it not strange but there's been several posts about it.

Actually, that would point to it being strange, otherwise there wouldn't be several posts about it ;) And it'd sure be swell if you could actually link to one. I couldn't find one, which is why I started this thread to begin with...

And to all the folks talking about that station's fast orbit, I encountered the same thing. Rather annoying to find another GalNet story to be smoke and mirrors, than have to play 'tag' with the station! Trading seems like the only way to make a decent profit off this supposed 'gold rush', although even then there are far better trade routes out there, I feel. Anybody made decent money off trading here? Perhaps I'm jumping to conclusions there - I didn't do much experimentation in that arena...

I've adjusted the orbit so you don't have to chase it - somebody must have forgotten to turn the drives off! :)

Thanks Michael, could you give us any comment on the gold as well?

I made the same experience as the OP. Been playing since release and so far, I have ignored all kind of "community events". Currently I am mostly a miner, so when I saw this thing on GalNet I was excited and glad to see FD give the miners some love. So, I jumped the 150ly to LAWD 26, explored the system and started scanning. Strange, the system map doesn't give a hint where those gold reserves might be hidden. Or maybe that's on purpose to not make it too easy for us? So, I started digging in the rocky belts here and there and then in the rings as well. Nothing valuable to be found. What I did find though was a resource extraction site with lots of bounties (cobras and anacondas) and a few other CMDRs there. Although my ship is fitted for mining I did get to kill a harmless anaconda, saw the blue "88.000cr bounty received" flash up and hurried to the "Stone's Legacy" station. As described above it seemed impossible to reach once you get close. I was wondering, too, if the station was actually moving or if it's simply a bug. Eventually I made it - just to realize, the 88.000 bounty didn't register, argh! (I thought that bug was fixed a while ago). So, there was nothing here for me besides wasted time and the valuable lesson learned to ignore future GalNet events of this sort. When I was about to leave the system I got interdicted by another CMDR who immediately opened fire, great. So that's the kind of players such events attract? But I do understand why he didn't even bother to ask for cargo. He must have realized, too, that there is no gold to be found around here...

Really? No one else finds this strange?

You went there because of a Sidewinder filled with gold. As people have already pointed out on the first article: You cannot fit a small fortune into a sidewinder. Not even 8t of Platinum could be considered a small fortune.

And why would a "well known prospector" only be flying a dirty sidewinder?

Hi everyone, first time posting on the forums but ive been playing for a month or 2. got so engrossed in the first week i bought an x55 lol,

anyways on topic. I went to lawd 26 when i read the news as well. I am not a miner but a bounty hunter. i was on a trek about 150 ly to codorain when i saw the news and decided to take the detour 40 ly to lawd.
So far its been worth it. chasing the station has been fun i thought lol, at first i was like huh. then i figured just swing wide and come in front of it and its no problem.
I did have issues with the map being cleared after i left the area and came back and had to rediscover everything and find the resource sites over again.
Ive seen a TON of NPC ships in the resource sites mining. Ive also seen gold getting left behind when they are destroyed by pirates or dump their cargo. I did find one site to be much more active than the other though.
as a bounty hunter ive been able to have a lot of fun in this area and bring in decent bounties too.
