Fiction Where's Aliens?

not exactly 2 known species, only 2 known & sentient species, in frontier the diameter of human space is about 200 LY centered on Sol, within which many worlds with life has been found, like in Tau Ceti for instance.

if we could find another sentient specie in such a small portion of the galaxy, chances are there could be many more or we would just be very lucky... or very unlucky actually.

It's a galaxy, not a universe. And that's 2 known races... I'm sure the door is open for further surprises. Personally I quite like this "limitation", I never did like sci-fi that was over-stuffed with numerous alien races.

This. Reading "Dark Wheel" now it feels like stuck on legacy of being product of Star Wars age (in case of referencing to different sentient aliens). Still, it makes sense to have alien animals. So we are talking about sentient races here in known space of the galaxy so far, which is incredibly small.

thanks for the correction... less disappointed now but still little disappointed all the same.

But with Drew's "Known so far" comment, I suspect/hope that there will be more.

In FE2 those lifeforms had all disappeared entirely without any explanation. In FFE the Thargoids returned as an Ammonia based life-form. Neither FE2 or FFE featured galactic hyperspace.

I never played and got into Frontier - Elite - Two and Frontier Encounters - Elite -Three and don't know much about what everyone here is saying about what happened to all the Sentient Non - Humans. Humans being exactly like we are.

What are Ammonia-Based life-forms exactly?

I'm not really a science person.

Having worked with Frontier on the Thargoid Guidebook for the writers, I can confirm that, at this stage, the only space-faring races are the Thargoids and humans.

I don't believe Frontier are planning to introduce any more races with what we would recognise as a culture, but they may change their minds at a later date - only they know the future of the Eliteverse.

Well this is indeed a disappointment.
The universe in the original Elite had a multitude of aliens and now we have just 2 races in the new BIGGER (much much much BIGGER) Elite???

Just 2 races in the universe?

I'm disappointed as well. I was sort of looking forward to the prospect of meeting other non-human alien life-forms in the capacity of being intelligent in their own right within the Elite - Dangerous galaxy.

Other than that I am looking forward to seeing Thargoids in this game. Wether they are some sort of evolved Arachnoid or Insectoid.

Then again may be not such good idea.....

In this new game.....within the new Elite - Dangerous galaxy.

What I would also like to know is if human like us.......are they all a result of Humanities expansion from earth towards the other star systems?

Of course, your some sort of alien too if your a human that is planet other than earth after that expansion.

Are humans like us.....have they originated from planets and star-systems other than our own before any expansion from earth?

Have humans actually originated from a Star-System other than the Solar-System?

To the best of my knowledge, humans all originated from planet Earth, in the Sol system... a long time ago, in a galaxy not so far away.

Yes, humans originate from Earth, but naturally genetic manipulation, planetary conditions on all the inhabited planets (not only gravity and radiation, but alien bacteria etc.) may have affected the development of humanity, diversifying the population in their outlook.

The interesting question is how much different can various stocks of humanity be. We'll see how Frontier sees it.

Wasn't there also an inteligent species on Achenar (Achernar?) that humans wiped out? The humans in question then went on to form the Empire and broke away from the Federation.

Think of it this way: While there may not be many different aliens to meet at launch, this means there is more room for exciting first encounter scenarios later down the line.

Meeting aliens is one thing, but surely the prospect of being the first one to meet them is even more exciting? There's no knowing what is out there...

It's about 20 years too late to be "disappointed" of this, anyway.

Exactly... way more interesting and exciting to be a part of the discovery and revelations than have a pre-populated galaxy of a 100 alien races.

IIRC, there were some of those "environmentally affected" humans in FE2. Due to the colour of the sun in that system their skin had adopted a golden hue. Don't remember the name of the system. I think there might have been more of these kind of offsprings in the stories that came with the game.

I've always imagined that the more harsh and strange environments humans come into contact with, and live in for a long period of time without terraforming (due to isolation maybe), would produce more mutations and bizarre human variants. Perhaps after an extended time it would come to the stage where they might not even be classed as "human" any more, both physically and psychologically.
