How many of you don't play anymore?

Not burned out, just bored of the same old thing over and over. If mining was a bit more lucrative and a lot less aggro with chasing chunks of rock around all day, I'd take that up instead of trading.

USS's actually nneds to have pirates in more and not those cargo cannisters with nothing else. USS's also need to appear more frequently and faster after you enter SC then I'd probably take up bounty hunting.

What puts me off exploring is the possibility of being totally disabled and having to SD and lose all the data I have acquired. If it was possible to repair your engines and canopy (even with sticky tape) in space without having to get to a station or outpost, I'd probably go exploring. However, canopy's often go first, followed by engines and there's no way to repair either ATM.

The lure of new ships brought me back to playing again (not played since before Christmas). Had a look at the Fer-de-Lance and Vulture in Beta, then considered grinding up some credits to buy one of them next week. So I sold my Viper for a Cobra and started trying to make some money... It isn't going to last.

I played most during gamma and some after release, but after I got a (almost) fully kitted out T6 and having tried a bit of everything (bounty hunting, exploration, mining, trading) I have recently only played some minutes to test out some improvements (e.g. better route planner).

I just cannot be bothered anymore since there really is no actual content in this game. It is a great space sim, but that's just not enough for me, I prefer (single player) games with real adventure and stories (plots). And please do not feed me that nonsense about lacking imagination.

I do follow this forum quite frequently to see if any worthy improvements or additions would be added to the game.

Playing since release for an average of maybe 1½-2 hours/day. And...
...Nah, I'm good.

It probably helps that I have almost literally not touched trading at all.
My biggest monument of progression is the Sol Permit. And a stock Cobra.
I am probably the poorest CMDR around but this way there's stuff left to do.
Works for me

(just what have I been doing the past weeks??)

Yes, I suppose I am playing less but I think it is as much to do with other commitments as not wanting to. I do think that the updates since launch have been more a case of inserting what should have been there from the start rather than adding to and enhancing the game (decent comms, grouping tools for example). When that corner is turned I think things will be much more engaging.

Since audio issues introduced with 1.1 and seeing that a lot of smaller improvements or bug corrections have not been taken into account, I play about a 1/10th than before. Lost fun and hope unfortunately.

this!

i put up with alot of crap from this game patch to patch and finding either workarounds or otherways to enjoy the game (not what i want to do at the time). BUT the audio issue is so immersion killing, it doesent happen often but when it does i just turn off and stop playing.

Realistically though the whole format of the game means if you only play once in a while or a few hours a day, it matters not to the game universe rather it is what you want to achieve by playing... That it has a choice of paths that can be followed then any goals are set personally by each player, without the limitation of the game engine and game design being an on rails story driven path, this means that if you perhaps binge play then leave it for a few days or a even a few months your not losing progress as such...

I play this as with all of my games when i want to, when I am in the mood for space rather than FPS, or puzzle or RTS. I do understand people have different expectations of this game from me, but if playing isn't fun then dont play for the sake of it...

This pretty much sums up my feelings. Well done for getting into my head also Tryst ;)

I've only played once in the last two weeks. I didn't decide to stop playing, I just lost a little bit the effort to. The one time I played recently is because a mate was on playing it.

I've got an A grade Asp and an A grade Cobra and about 8m in the bank. I've put an awful lot of hours into this game.

I'm looking forward to trying wings when 1.2 is out, but I'm really just looking forward to the mission overhaul whenever that comes.

I play on a gaming laptop hooked up to me telly.

For the past few weeks I've been mainly trading and watching netflix at the same time. The tedium does not really set in then.

- there has only been a couple of time i've ran into a space station though which is can be pain to the wallet as I run an ASP without shields.

You have to worry when players play netflix at the same time whether what they are doing is actually fun. I really think TRADER in this game should be renamed to COURIER.

I remember David Braben responding in one of his Dev Commentary's that he wanted people to be constantly doing 'something', so that trading was 'quick' - so they were not looking at spreadsheets and were flying in space instead. Importantly I remember him making the distinction that he didn't want anything in the game that would make people want to load up films on the side. That it was going to be about flying around in space as much as possible. I should find it and post it here but you will forgive my lazyness - I will find it and post in an edit.

He succeeded somewhat, but even in terms of being the courier of the goods the game is only fun when you dock as that is the only time you are really required to put thought or action in (save for setting throttle to 50% when arrival countdown reaches 0:07). I find the docking part the most fun part of it - whereas in an actual courier game, like Euro Truck Simulator, I enjoy the journey due to the constant need for controlling speed through speed restrictive zones, looking out for traffic, obeying road traffic laws, manual gearing (with gear shift) etc etc and then ending with the attempt to reverse park a trailer ( more difficult than docking, to the point where most people skip it lol).

Not to mention that in Euro Truck you can employ other people and make a business - why a trader cannot make their own business and then employ NPC or Human couriers, make their own space station or have an office at one where they can properly trade.

I think the issue of the tedium lies in what was not really thought out - yeah spreadsheets can be mindnumbing for some people - but trading is min/maxing to the extreme, minimising losses, maximising profits. Playing it 'properly' or getting into it does require tools that stress your margins and should allow at least rudimentary data analysis (in ship).

If you could do that you would spend your time number crunching for your next trade, analysing data and purchase history and recent market changes while travelling between stations and systems. Then being the courier of the goods does not mean simply flying the same trip between two systems to the same starports over and over - you are constantly looking at options - you are more like an actual trader, rather than an Elite Courier.

i play very little when i do pick it up its for short bursts. i find it difficult to click play most times and most often click update and go play something else. I still have high hopes for it as an 84 player. I hold FD in the highest regards still i dont feel robbed . sad in anyway one day its going to be worth spending more than the little bursts i do at the mo.

Took a 2 week break and came back for 1.2 Beta. Had a bit of a blast in there so will probably jump back into the main game next week. I'm trying to avoid the grind and mix it up.

I have a 1.5mil cobra and a pretty basic T6 for trading and 2mill in the bank. Mister Average? Probably play a few hours each week (was quite a bit more in Beta days I have to admit).

So the HOTAS is still getting a bit of love :D and things will only get better in ED. Still enjoying the ride as a whole.

I haven't played ED in several weeks now. I don't think I have given up on the game, but I am just not finding it to have the longevity that I expected, and needing to reboot my Mac into Windows every time I want to play it is a little too much work for a game that right now isn't grabbing my attention the way that I'd hoped. I do believe there is a need for the content to be upped considerably by Frontier if they want the game to last. Like someone else in this thread, I play as a solo adventurer and am not really interested in joining any sort of a group (and my own schedule doesn't allow for that sort of pre-planned gaming either), so the wings update doesn't hold as much interest for me as it probably does for avid multiplayer fans. There are a few other things in the 1.2 update that DO interest me, so I plan to give the game another look after the update comes out, and then again when the Mac beta begins. (I have beta access and could be looking at 1.2 right now, but frankly I just don't have enough interest left in the game at the moment to be a good beta tester, especially not when it requires that reboot into Windows mode just to play the game. Maybe it will get easier to motivate myself to try a little ED again now and then once there is a Mac-native version).

I'm only playing occasionally. Went back to playing Star Trek Online for the time being. There's just so much more variety of activities. But when 1.2 comes out i'll be back giving it a go.

I think you got the thread title wrong, it should have been "How many of you don't play anymore but still hang around the forum for some strange inexplicable reason?"

;)

Why do they have to leave a forum if they no longer play the game? The reasoning behind that is 'more' inexplicable. Are you only allowed on the forums with the game loaded, when is the cut off point? If I do not play for 6 months am I not allowed to post here?

Still playing. Probably not for much longer, though. I might have another look when an update comes out I'm actually interested in, or when the planetary landings pack comes out. Kind of come to realise that the game FD seem to want to make, and the game I wanted to play, aren't the same. Never mind; I've played it a fair bit since last summer/autumn so I've probably got my moneys worth. I'll probably keep going for the time being, but we'll see.
