Account transfer?

Hi,

My PC died a while ago and I simply do not have the money to buy a new one or even to pay for repairs to my old one.

I got £100 for xmas last year to pay into the ED kickstarter and get me beta access, sadly this is now useless to me and I'm wondering if there is any way I can transfer my account to a friend.. one of us might as well get some pleasure from it.

To say I'm upset is a masterpiece of understatement, I've played Elite since the BBC Model B, Tape version and now ED is so close.. only to not be able to play it.. well, you can imagine my feelings. I've done everything to work out a way of paying for the repairs but with the bills I have for the foreseeable future its simply not possible. :(

If you really trust him then give him your account details when time comes (FD probably will contact you and will require username and password for game login). I am in second stage beta too, but still don't know if I will be able to upgrade my PC to actually play it, as it is quite costly event for me too.

That would be my worst nightmare! I feel for you

Why don't you consider HP? All of my computers have been purchased through finance at PC World.

Steve, that's very noble of you to donate your account to your friend. However, might I suggest that you hold onto your account for the time being. These sort of decisions are often made under emotional duress (read anger and depression). If you leave it for a few weeks, even a month or two, you'll be over the worst and can make a rational decision whether to give your account away. I feel absolutely positive that you will get another PC at some stage in your life again, and at that point you may wish you had kept it.

+1, for you, in the reasoning. There is not die from man, and the life is long. Backer's commitment is a long-term investment

Hi Steve

Another thing to consider is that we don't know yet what the requirements are for ED. Alpha will be most demanding as the optimisation tweaks won't fully be in place but as Beta, Gamma and Release loom the code will get better and the minimum hardware requirement go down. Ebay / Loot would be a perfect place to pick up a 2nd hand system later in the year - when everyone is upgrading to a new ninja machine they need someone to take their older bits and that's where you step in :)

Hi Steve,

Like the others say. Don't be so hasty. Don't give up...

Is this PC good enough to start with? 85 quid... (please note, I know little about computers)

Surely you can find yourself a bargain somewhere. Don't give up so soon.

What about this??

ok it's £289 and I know nothing about computers as I earlier stated but someone here who knows about computers could help you build a computer. One of my 1st PCs was built by a friend and was half the price of an already built PC.

Or we could ask the rich of the forum to donate you some money instead of having a star system named after themselves... how much does one need for a decent computer to run Elite?

Jean Marc, I do not believe that this remark is relevant and I find it even disagreeable. If persons are lucky enough to be able to offer themselves a star system, so much the better for them. It is not your affair. And they are not here to pay the computers to other persons. I specify you that I have no star system in my name. All the members of forum, are member of the same Elite family, the rich as the poor. And the rich do not have to pay for people who have temporary difficulties and who come to cry here. What I find also disagreeable

Just hold tight, mate...I may be able to help you out.
I've just bought a new MB, Graphics card, CPU, tower and Hard drive, I have no use for my old machine.
Now, I don't know what specs are required for playing ED, but you are more than welcome to come down to Prescot (thats Merseyside) and take it away...totally free of charge.

It's a AMD Dual-core processor with 250 gig HD. I've re-claimed the DVD Player/Re-Writer and the 4 gig memory, but your welcome to the rest, mate.

Just let me know.

Dryza.

EDIT: Oh, mouse and keyboard come with it ;)

Here is a very nice gesture for a machine that is no longer worth a pound sterling but still powerful. You made a nice gesture, because this machine must have sentimental value for you. Congratulations and welcome to the forums

Wow Patrick. That has to be the most heartless, rude thing I have ever had the displeasure of reading on these forums. Shame on you. If I had money I would be glad to help those less fortunate. I am on SSD in the USA and have almost no money. I have a O2 hose up my nose 24/7 now. And thru the generosity of someone who was kind enough, they bought me a pledge I would never have been able to afford. I am extremely grateful as I've been a fan of Elite since the week it came out. I am so glad the 99.9% of the people I've met here are not like you. The good will I have seen here is great and I for one am glad for it.

What a generous offer! I am glad to see people like you here mate. Thank you. I'm sure he will be happy to have it. :D

Wow Patrick. That has to be the most heartless, rude thing I have ever had the displeasure of reading on these forums.

I think perhaps it's a little lost in translation but all he was saying was that the suggestion that INSTEAD of buying named space stations, etc (ie ED pledges that go towards Frontier and the game) that people should spend that money on buying random people PC equipment. If people have kit to spare (like the very generous Dryza) all well and good, but they should certainly not be made to feel wasteful, or selfish, for splurging their own cash on in-game rewards as opposed to charity for other players. The game would never have been made without all the "higher than strictly necessary" pledges.

I am so glad the 99.9% of the people I've met here are not like you.

People being generous is one thing - being told you should help someone is completely different.

That aside, Patrick is French so English is a 2nd language.

How many languages do you know ? ;)

Lost in translation springs to mind and whilst I knew exactly what he meant if you believed that 99.9% of the people here are good then perhaps you should have read his post in that frame of mind.

Don't be the 0.1% here.
