Account transfer?

Wow Patrick. That has to be the most heartless, rude thing I have ever had the displeasure of reading on these forums. Shame on you. If I had money I would be glad to help those less fortunate. I am on SSD in the USA and have almost no money. I have a O2 hose up my nose 24/7 now. And thru the generosity of someone who was kind enough, they bought me a pledge I would never have been able to afford. I am extremely grateful as I've been a fan of Elite since the week it came out. I am so glad the 99.9% of the people I've met here are not like you. The good will I have seen here is great and I for one am glad for it.

Well your interpretation is completly wrong. You're not the only one having problems. Myself, I have problems. It does not necessarily mean that I allows me to say to another person, that she would do better to help me to have a computer instead of supporting a star system in her name. This is an unacceptable intrusion into the private life and it is rude. You do not have the monopoly of heart and generosity Doctor_Demento. it is you, the rude person.

As Liqua and Jabokai have pointed out, this seems to be a complete misunderstanding by two members of the fora who are otherwise nice guys.

I wonder if wars could be started this way :p

Let it go guys, its a misunderstanding, end of.

I think perhaps it's a little lost in translation but all he was saying was that the suggestion that INSTEAD of buying named space stations, etc (ie ED pledges that go towards Frontier and the game) that people should spend that money on buying random people PC equipment. If people have kit to spare (like the very generous Dryza) all well and good, but they should certainly not be made to feel wasteful, or selfish, for splurging their own cash on in-game rewards as opposed to charity for other players. The game would never have been made without all the "higher than strictly necessary" pledges.

Yes of course

People being generous is one thing - being told you should help someone is completely different.

That aside, Patrick is French so English is a 2nd language.

How many languages do you know ? ;)

Lost in translation springs to mind and whilst I knew exactly what he meant if you believed that 99.9% of the people here are good then perhaps you should have read his post in that frame of mind.

Don't be the 0.1% here.

Yes of course, I'm a pacifist, except in ED

:p

As Bingo, Liqua and jabokai just said, a misunderstanding. Move on guys and what a wonderful gesture from Dryza Bone. +1 for you!

Hi,

My PC died a while ago and I simply do not have the money to buy a new one or even to pay for repairs to my old one.

I got £100 for xmas last year to pay into the ED kickstarter and get me beta access, sadly this is now useless to me and I'm wondering if there is any way I can transfer my account to a friend.. one of us might as well get some pleasure from it.

To say I'm upset is a masterpiece of understatement, I've played Elite since the BBC Model B, Tape version and now ED is so close.. only to not be able to play it.. well, you can imagine my feelings. I've done everything to work out a way of paying for the repairs but with the bills I have for the foreseeable future its simply not possible. :(

PC's don't die. They are all parts put together. One part may be broken. Can you tell us more? Describe the problem as much as you can.

It may be that only your gfx died. In that case, maybe someone around here as a spare one laying around that is not used. I once sent an old card to someone in another country. Cost me €20,- but he just didn't have the money to upgrade his machine.

If you could narrow it down, many people have spare parts lying around, that work but were merely replaced. In this case we need specs on your machine as to know what you can use.

Good point indeed Variform.

If he has a friend to take the machine to and use as a reference machine you can do some basic TShooting and perhaps work out what is broken - might mean the difference between £400 and £40 :)

I was going to offer my services as a PC Tech for many years... I'd be happy to offer any assistance I can....

As for naming a star system, naw too rich for my blood.

But the only issue is location... I have just recycled parts already and therefore I don't have spares kicking about.... but If I can help with anything please ask.

I had been thinking of doing this myself, because the two computers I use are under specs or may be under spec.

Truth is now, I don't think they are going to be far from useful for this game Alpha/Beta.

I just wish I had more time to save more money before it starts.

I might have had the money now, but another Kick-Starter I'm interested in had popped which will be bringing me down by about $300.00 AUD (Possibly more) by the beginning of December and I've just done my Christmas shopping which turned out to be about $150.00 AUD (Give or take $20.00 AUD). Not to worry, as I will have at least another $2000.00 AUD by the end of February next year If I don't splurge on something else.

Now, it's just come to my attention that the actual game release is scheduled for March 2014 and not April 2014 as I had been thinking. I'm pretty sure it was April for a while and now I see it's March.

(What's that about?)

Originally I was a little distraught over this, but I think $2000.00 AUD is more than enough cash for up-to-spec PC. Someone told me they had their machine built for them and it only cost him about $900.00 AUD.

As for it's release being a month earlier. I should be happy, but I am a patient man.

Sorry, for going off the subject there.....

If I were you and after some careful consideration. I just wouldn't let my chance to play this game Alpha/Beta go. Especially, if I did at least come up with the cash to back this game at that level I have. I'm not sure if money for that might have gone towards a new computer, but I guess it wouldn't have made much difference on it's own.

About myself, I just glad I'm a backer and that was my only thought as I completed the transaction.

Anyway, it sounds like you almost have your PC problem solved by some other generous forum member.

I agree. Patrick has always been a supportive member of the community and one of the good guys. I think it's nothing more than just a misunderstanding so let's leave it at that as others have said.

As for Dryza's very kind offer I think that's a brilliant thing to do. Good on you for keeping up the generous spirit we have in these forums. I shall be doing my bit next month as well to try and put something back. Yay for us... again (that'll never get boring) :D

Hmmm...seems this ol computer of mine is a triple core (AMD ATHLON IIx3) 425 Triple-Core Processor.
AND...it has a 500 GB HardDrive (not as I thought, 250), ATI Radeon HD 4250 on-board Graphics. and comes with keyboard and mouse.
Come on, Steve...it's just a 45 min drive away.
PM me before someone else asks for it.

Hmmm that spec should be ok to run ED in low settings:D

Maybe PM him too? He seemed to be emotionally stressed about his situation :(

I agree. Patrick has always been a supportive member of the community and one of the good guys.

Or we could ask the rich of the forum to donate you some money instead of having a star system named after themselves...

For my part, I received a personnal message from Jean Marc Cipullo, in which he sending me, his affection, and says to me, that his girlfriend thinks as me on this affair. Having been supported by recognized members of the forums, and happy of the affection of Jean Marc, which is a part of my friends on my user account, I continue my road the light heart and the sense of accomplishment

:p

And they all lived happily ever after. The End?

Really feel this post needs a smilie, but I just can't do it...

Wow..

I didn't expect my question to cause this much fuss.

First of all, thanks to everyone that tried to suggest things, thanks a lot.
To the person that suggested a cheap PC, thank you but our money is so tied up for the next 6-8 months I cannot even spare £10 a week to buy on HP.
To the person that --seems-- to be suggesting I came on here to cry and beg, that is not the case, I am not that kind of person. I only came hoping to pass my account on legally.

and now.. to Dryza Bone.

First I say thank you very VERY much, that is an incredibly kind and generous offer you made me and its wonderful to see in this day and age that such nice people still exist. Thank you very much, I really really appreciate the offer, greatly! but sadly I will have to refuse, I don't mean to be ungrateful but I just cannot do that, I'm sure you can use it as an emergency spare pc. but thank you!! :)

as for my PC, some people asked the problem, well it was fine and I seemed to have no problems at all, I shut down for the night and went to bed, when I came to power on the PC in the morning its dead, nothing at all. I spent the best part of 4-5 days messing with it, I tried another PSU, I tried pulling the GPU out, I tried swapping ram, I tried another HD. nothing worked. I suspect the motherboard is dead. but who knows.

anyway again, thanks to you all. and extra extra thanks to Dryza Bone. :)

Right on Commander!
