How many of you don't play anymore?

So lets see..... this thread was started on friday afternoon...... since then devs have been at work for a total of hmmmm ....4 hours tops. Then they went home for the weekend.

Just when should they have stopped everything to read through this thread and post a reassuring comment ?

No misunderstanding, please. :)
Everybody deserves the weekend, to do something beside his job, no question about that.
But I think, a thread of this importance and length (now) deserves some attention, right?
Good, to see a dev here. Hopefully with some important news, too.

The problem is not this thread nor the weekend. Everybody has the right to relax then. The problem is, that far more threads exist, which contain complaints and/or suggestions in a more or less intelligent manner about the same issues, we discuss here. And as far as I know, no devs/managers have written some comments to these complaints.

The point is: insufficient communication.

As one may look onto the communication behavior of the not too far away being competitor "SC", which has the same history in being backed from a kickstarter campaign:

there are:
- extensively detailed monthly reports
- extended community communications
- videos
- conventions
- etc.

IMO, FD lacks massive in that.

reasons for that may be:
- lack of personnel
- lack of time
- lack of money
- just ignorance

...but I hope, it's nothing of the listed points.... but then I don't know, what they prevent from communicating more...

The overstated hymns FD releases in fb can't cover in whitewash, that there is literally few to do in ED and is in no means a real "communication" as the forum/gamecommunity deserves.

The fact, that your are responding to this thread gives me the hope, that someone in a meaningful position is able to communicate our "voice" to someone, who's able to modify something.

To FD, it really doesn't matter if you do not play anymore or not. They got your money already.
Nah, man, I understand you are angry for all the ignoring that seems to be happening but they truly have yo be interested in having players in their game since that's what gives the most life to their servers and a better experience for the players in general, plus they want people to be talking about their game to gain more costumers and get people to buy skins and DLCs.

From an artistic point of view has to be very frustating to be paid to do something that (you like) but nobody else does, so I do think they don't see us as someone that has already played and can ignore us already since they got what they wanted from us.

Also: do not confuse Mods with Devs.
2nd Also: Would be nice to have a list of all dev posts since this thread was open, because the fact that they haven't answered doesn't mean they didn't have the time. I do think they read most threads even if they are negative, but that doesn't mean they feel like answering. At this point in the thread I have to say that I was expecting at least a post from the community manager, although obviously not on sunday.

Hi Cheeki, you can find that here: http://eft.recoil.org/

I don't think everyone is calling out for a dev's response and surely not in such a short time frame - and on the weekend. These posts are not going anywhere as far as I know and there are lots of moderators who can say "Hey this is getting traction, perhaps a word here might be worthwhile", if they believe the post worth their time.

I agree also and said a few pages back, very rarely do Dev's not want to create the best possible version of whatever they create - most of the time it is the greater business decisions that influence the amount of time they get to spend on something.

Why? The same things apply to him as to the devs. Friday afternoon. Weekend.

But actually he is working, he is in America at the PAX east show, and far too busy with the show I would imagine.

Well, that explains that. I wish the preparations go well and that he has a good trip... he's gonna find a good couple of threads when he comes back, between the 1.2 update and other usual stuff in this forums he'll have a hell of a read if he plans on reading all.

Haven't played in 3-4 weeks, and the feedback I'm reading in the beta forum hasn't made me want to pull my HOTUS out of storage. New ships should be somewhat exciting, but FD seems to want to cripple things right out of the gate, or else doesn't even play their own game (ie, issues relating to Vulture power vs weps vs thrusters, hardpoint convergence.) Even the ship art is... I'll be polite and say "uninspired". Stack 2 vipers on top of each other, slap a T6 canopy on the front, and sandwich 2 Huge radiators between the wings. Seriously?

And across the fleet, the math doesn't even begin to add up on ship size vs speed vs agility vs power. It feels like someone just throws numbers into a spreadsheet, and when players point out that it ISN'T working well, DEV says something like "we'd be interested in hearing if it's a problem." Not so they can fix the problem, but so they can give better justifications for why they've done it a particular way.

Yeah, FD already got my money for 1.0 - and if things continue in this direction, it's the only time I'll be pulling out my credit card.

This post is not unique. There are posts like this on here every day since release and the management choose not to answer in any of them. I personally dont care if they answer within these threads their silence is so ubiquitous. If they do take the time to read them theres a common trend in all of these threads so instead of them sulking about people complaining or suggesting or whining or whatever they should put their money where their silence is and come out talking about where this game is going with specifics (dates not necessary but a rough time frame would be nice).

Not playing anymore since a few weeks.
-
There is no point in playing anything where you can't make the slightest difference.
There is something very essential missing in this game and FD just isn't listening to us.
-
The Game is somewhat like playing a Goldfish in a Fishtank. With DK2 on it's an awesome breathtaking experience but your diveing tours are completly meaningless. And what's worse. There is not the slightest indication that FD wants to change this. I am not sure if they understand what GAMES need.
-
Still have hope. But it starts to diminishing. Something that started so good doesnt deserve to die like that. Wake Up FD. Wake up.

  • How many of you don't play anymore?

Me, me sir <Pixels’s hand in the air>
‘and why is that Pixel?’
‘I’m waiting for it to come into testing on the Mac sir’
‘but didn't you buy it at Alpha testing phase and play via bootcamp on your windows computer?’
“yes but I got fed up with booting up windows, downloading updates, all the trading exploits and game mechanic changes since launch”
‘oh that’s a shame… there’s a lot of folk enjoying the game right now though…”
“Yes, I’m hoping they'll all get bored of all their maxed out ships and gazillion credits by the time the games ready to play on a Mac”
‘that’s not very sporting Pixel’
“neither was removing offline play just before launch sir”
‘go and stand in the corner Pixel !’

The fact, that no dev ever came to this thread, commenting or explaining something, is not understandable for me.

There is a good reason why they haven't responded. Stats convey they regard looking at the forum as part of their day jobs. They tend to look at the forum 10am to 7pm UTC weekdays, mostly when they're at the office.

The stats for their posts this year say that only 3% of their posts are done on weekends, so since ED is their *job*, I don't fault them for resting during the weekends and spending a bit of time with family and friends. This game is our leisure, but it's FD's job, which I think we ought to consider.

Some interesting facts regarding when they're active and posting on the forum (since this year)
  • 80% of the posting happens 10am - 7pm (UTC).
  • 95% of the posts are created in the span 10am - 10pm.
  • Tue-Thu is when they're most active (67% of all posts), which isn't unexpected, since Mondays typically are getting-started-days for people at large, while Fridays people wind down and perhaps leave a little early.
  • They're most active on Thursdays when they post 25% of their weekly contribution.
  • Total posts on the forum they've made so far this year is 1457. Might not seem like it since threads are swept away from the front page very quickly, but they do definitely use the board. The stats tell as much.
So given this, be patient until tomorrow evening. Then you could argue you have cause to be upset if someone from FD hasn't commented on the thread ;)

Oh, and sure, these numbers tell only a story about quantity and not quality. I do however have to say that Sarah A.J., the AI engineer, is in my eyes a role model for rest of the team to follow when it comes to community interaction. She provides posts with actual meat in them (interesting & high quality), so Kudos to Sarah for excellent community interaction.

I read the forums most days, and I look down at my HOTAS but rarely pick it up to play anymore. I was wondering who else is feeling a little let down and sad by what we have so far? I still have high hopes for the game and think that they will make it much better this year.

To all you that are feeling like I do, stay hopeful. There is still time but the clock is ticking

Well, TBH I only pick it one a week, run one or two cargo runs, then get bored. (My maxed out Viper is 300ly away so no combat right now) and I playing with a Type 6 to save up to an Asp. (Actually, I have 11 mil creds in the t6+cash, in the but I want a pile of cash for the expensive Asp upgrades too. )
Anyhoo, I have a couple of friends that grinded up to Type 7 then kind of felt.. "Ok, why did I grind up to a type 7? So that I can grind even more and get an Anaconda..? Then what.. Ok, now I'm gonna put this game aside for a while and await new content."

I think its not a huge stretch to say that most players know that the game is very samey and "samey" gets boring after a while (Ye, I know, now someone will say "Oh, but I play 24/7 and Im loving every second of it).

Ok so now lets get to the point.
I think its unrealistic to already expect major expansion packages that will somehow make this game super fun. Its just been ~3 months since the release. The devs cant make epic stuff this fast. Major enhancements such as planetary landings will probably take somewhere between half a year (planets with no atmosphere) to well over a year (complete planets with vegetation) etc.. (Same for walking around on stations where players can meet and chat etc)..

The 1.1 and 1.2 updates are probably quite descriptive of the rate we can get major updates.

That being said, I find it somewhat annoying that they haven't dealt with the easy stuff. Features that require little effort but make the game more fun and varied.
There have been lots of threads about this during beta etc..
Not gonna mention it all again, (go search in the archives) but just some some basic stuff like making Empire, Federation etc "feel" a bit different. You know, have a different GUI color for Feds, Empire.. whatever.. Not having the exact same text for mission descriptions... The general attitude towards you as a player ig you happen to "belong" to other factions.. Small simple stuff like that requires very little dev time, yet it would help to commbat the feeling that every corner of the galaxy is basically the same..
More random surprises that break you away from the samey samey..

So I actually played the 1.2 Beta for a couple of hours. A good chance to fly some ships I'll probably never be able to afford in the real game without thousands of hours of grinding (all ships are 100cr each :) ).

I don't care about the MP stuff. The F'd'Lance looks quite nice, I enjoy flying it, though I doubt I'll be able to afford it once it reaches the main branch. Some small UI tweaks I've wanted for ages are finally in (remaining jumps, faction name in primary display etc). Comms panel seems improved, although I'd never use it as I play solo.

Some cannisters are labelled "illegal salvage", so maybe there's hope for making money by picking up stuff. The "repair/reboot" thing works, but I actually really loved the way the ship went entirely dark during the process. I so want a button to do that for myself, the view with all the lights out in the cockpit was spectacular.

Lots of little things. Might play some more when it goes live if the FDL seems affordable without too much grinding. I really hope now that 1.3 will concentrate on solo-player experience.

Kudos to Sarah for excellent community interaction.

I won't say "excellent". She communicates, that's all. What I understand under "excellent communication", I would look at SC's...
That's excellent!

I'm putting in my application for a job at FD then. Most of us work 5 out of 7 days on a rolling rota that means weekends as well. Few businesses these days work 9-5 Monday to Friday. A weekend off is a luxury for me.

I really hope so. Major patches every month would be great.

I'd much rather FD put all their resources into making the primary PC game fun (and not samey) before turning to expansions.

I played it, was great, i hop in from time to time but everything now feels grindy and boring.
I still remeber when i first started, all the tiny details and polish was amazing but after going on a short ride i pretty much did everything ED had to offer and everything started feeling more and more reptitive.

ED is an absolutely amazing game but it lacks content, it lacks substance for us to sink our hands in and lose weeks in the ED universe.
What bothers me is that they took the time to make such an amazing base for a game but never actually added much to the actual game...
It just feels like they should have actually taken a year more to make content but they just decided to it and rush it out.

Frontier need to do something quick as the competition is coming. It has been 3 months since release, no major content has been forthcoming yet. We have had some updates to mechanics and some are invoming i.e wings but we are crying out for content.

I predict within 3 to Six months we are going to see either SC squadron 42 or No Mans Sky. Either of these games could steal not only a large part of elites customer base but also its potential customers. NMS is certainly tempting me to get PS4.
