Huzzah for Women Commanders - Interngalactic Women's Day

So while the OP had great intentions, one should stop to consider whether or not women would rather just get on with it, and be seen as equals rather than having people feel as though they need to be coddled or made to feel special :) They want to play like anyone else and just be part of the team. It's like any minority group, being reminded time and again that you dont look/act/behave/speak the same can get quite irritating.

Anyway. Good intentions and all that

While it's nice to see a female in any game, let's not forget- it's not about who you are or what you look like or what your real-life preferences are. It's all about how you play the game. We all stand equal before the enormity and majesty of the galaxy.

That, and your cargo is all worth the same to me on the black market. ;)

I'd always loved the fact that Elite had managed to avoid having anythin to do with gender politics and all the rubbish that came with Gamergate. This thread makes me sad for that reason.

If we are going to be equal, men AND women dont need a 'special day' to celebrate the fact they have a certain set of genitalia.
Dont be sad. It's not about politics, just a shout out to an important group of the ED community on a cool day. They're our ED sisters and it's great to have some strong female voices part of the game's world (Lisa from Lave being one of them).

Please try to keep it light in here :)

I must respectfully disagree. Women gamers have been on the recieving end of a lot of online harassment especially as of late. (Thank you #gamergate X( ) I think it's important to reach out to women gamers and show them that Elite: Dangerous will welcome them and grant them a safe, hate free place to spend their time.

Absolute 100% proof silliness in every sentence. :p

>'Women gamers have been on the recieving end of a lot of online harassment especially as of late.'

Nope.

> 'I think it's important to reach out to women gamers and show them that Elite: Dangerous will welcome them and grant them a safe, hate free place to spend their time'

No it isn't.

Women are either interested in playing ED or they aren't. No amount of interstellar white knighting for CMDR M'lady is going to change that.

And of course, there's the graphics option to select whether your pilot is male or female. I might just try changing it to see what the differences are....

Nope.

You're either being deliberately contrary or have been living under a rock to deny that statement.

No it isn't.

It's something online multiplayer games as a whole need to do, not just Elite Dangerous. Awareness is a lot better than it was but action is lacking.

Women are either interested in playing ED or they aren't.

Fair comment.

No amount of interstellar white knighting for CMDR M'lady is going to change that.

Actually, it's about ethics in spaceship games.

Didn't know this.

Let us know how your "Change" goes.

Don't forget to change it back, unless of course you feel more comfortable after the "Change" :p

As an American so close to the month of February I have to say this type of argument is getting very old. So to those who might get upset at any "x" appreciation day/week/month please consider that appreciation is not a zero-sum economy. We can all appreciate something without depreciating its opposite (or perceived opposite). If you feel slighted by someone appreciating not you or not something you appreciate you might want to reflect upon the fragility of your own ego. So take my advice and don't overthink it. No one is being patronized or singled out. This is nothing more than a compliment by a random stranger in passing so treat it thusly. Or are you the type of person who would confront the stranger for not including everyone in their compliments? Because that's just weird.

SHOW US YOUR.....MAD PILOTING SKILLS!

Love it!

That is so how I picture myself!

Spent my day buying a brand new shinny Python :)

Took it for a spin.

I don't think it makes a difference, I'm a girl myself and set it in game to female and the 1.1update reset it to male.
Besides that, the are no commanders visible in ships. So I think it will be only important once that's implemented along with being able to walk around like.

Where is international men day?

Those above pointing out it would be better to say nothing are completely correct, if we want equality then they don't need a day celebrating them, since guys don't get one too.

Gender equality only seems to be brought up when females are championed, didn't see women protesting to pay the same amount of car Insurance a few years back when companies offered them cheaper rates just for being women.

Equal rights has been fought for years; only for some to point out the difference and make a token celebration to edge the point.

Just my two cents
