Looking for an idea of the *rough* timescale

The first scenario lets you get used to flying your ship without any hostiles about to get in the way of your experimentation. Basically a play ground to get the control down.

Does this still take into account Psykokow's 'vulnerability'? Will he find his ship impossibly difficult to steer away from Asteroids, Space Stations etc.? :D

Only Elite could make the prospect of just flying around without combat exciting.

Will we have visible telemetry for alpha testing? Wingtip "smoke" or any sort for flightpath visualization? Will we have an asteroid field to fly through?

oooh , good call . do you think the downloader will 'break' too ?

Absolutely! but not before ive had my gameplay! :p

That would be awesome, right for my birthday :D

Now that would be a  birthday present!

I go with Friday 13th as the Damocles video was released on a Friday 13th......but this could leave us with out support over the weekend. So I go with week ending 13th and holidays thus booked.

I was sort of half joking in ref to it being the 13th, but the other half thought that a Friday(or other fri in Dec) would give most players a good few days over the weekend to get to grips with Alpha testing, rather then midweek with maybe only a few hours to spare.

As for support, the Devs *MAY* be willing to work the first weekend of testing or have some sort of support in place for inquires/questions etc...in the end its just a complete guess....they may be ready beginging of Dec ;)

I've only just read the RPS interview and was so happy when I saw the line: "Yes – people should be able to play pretty much throughout".

Especially due to previous experience in other alpha tests being limited to weekends only or certain time slots.

I don't expect everything to work 100%, 100% of the time (it is Alpha after all) but based on the footage from past dev diaries I'm hopeful ED is quite stable even at this stage.

I am wondering if the first part is just learning to fly the ship will the lasers work on it, or be disabled? I wouldn't mind if an asteroid field to practice a few shots at some. Will the hyper drive work on day one to check them out, or will we be locked initially to one system?

Humm locked in the founders world!
I was wondering if we have a space station to play with, without auto docking.

I think we can surely say that alpha will be modular at first - you will have generic system to fly in at first, then they will drop several AI there, then they will add two systems and you will travel between them, etc. Mike Evans said that first test will be just flying around and getting feel of it and providing feedback on that alone.

Lasers will be in alpha, as it was mentioned in newsletters #12 and #13.

So just double checking - that's Mon 2nd Dec right?

:D

My birthday is further on from then.....

I must continue reading those.

So far, I have just read the third newsletter

I said the first scenario will be like that along with some things to practice shooting at. There are going to be other scenarios to play as well though.

I've got my fingers crossed for some 'challenge mode' type scenarios. Waves of increasingly tough enemies that you have to survive through... Those were always fun on Star Wars games (Starfighter did it, and I seem to remember it in TIE Fighter too). Also metrics so we can see if we're improving.

It's getting a bit unhealthy the number of times I check the forums nowadays, now that it's dark most of the time and I'm usually inside. Hate to think how obsessive I'll become when we reach December.

By the way Mike, will be in-system travel (supercruise, micro jumps) also a part of alpha at some point? Or it is already beta territory?

after watching him fly a jet in GTA5 im pretty sure that FD wont need to doctor his ship. he has a knack of either ejecting at the wrong time or finding the most tiniest of objects to fly into.:D
