new thread, without any flames -- best ship, and how to outfit?

since my last thread drew such universal ire,
I'm thinking of getting an orca, typ-6 or viper. loadouts are very confusing. Assuming credits were not an issue, what are the essentials? Are there any guides out there to the various components and how to understand ratings/etc?

Your question could be answered many, many ways.

First question? What do you plan to do? Viper is generally considered the best introductory pure combat ship. Same for the type 6 and trading...
honestly, to answer you question would take a while, and as I'm at work and on my phone, I let the others take it from here.

for the moment, exploration and trading.
Are there any guides out there that explain the various components benefits/detriments? the in-game description (no surprise) is a bit sparse.

The type 6 can ably do both. I just swapped out some modules to go out into the great beyond.

I'm probably going to start with that .. what are the essentials I should outfit it with?

Just a question... your last thread you mentioned you had 50 million credits, and are learning to play the game... like completely inexperienced with buying ships etc.

I was wondering, how on earth did you amass 50 million credits without ever buying a ship or understanding their capabilities?

Just curious... no baiting or anything, it's just that, for a lot of people... 50 million is a LOT of money for a starter.

Thanks

Well answering what the essential items are is kind of a difficult question to answer that will vary person to person.
for the viper its powerplant, power distributor, shields, thrusters, shield cell bank, then weapons obviously. After that it's what you want to do with it. If bounty hunting a kill warrant scanner for example. Are your targets npc or human? Are you going to be jumping or staying in the system?

for the type 6 its all about saving weight and hauling as much as you can or want to.
so for a type 6 you want to upgrade everything but an FSD and the power distributor to a D class for the FSD and PD you want A class. thrusters either D or A depending on your preference. If you don't need the power you can always downgrade your powerplant to a lower number to save even more weight. Shields are optional if you want to use them or not. Some ships come with a shield generator that isn't in the largest slot. You can sell the shield and equip another larger shield I. The larger slot. At the same time you can also downgrade your shield to use the larger slots for cargo.

why class D? Class D is the lightest of the ratings so it will allow you to jump further.

so basic outfitting tips
class E: stock component heavy, not heat efficient, low health if targeted, upgrade asap
class D: better than class E, sometimes use more power, lightest component class
class C: middle of the road, can have heat issues, weighs more, but is generally better then the prior two.
class B: weighs the most, but offers improvement at or near class A while costing less
class A: weighs as much as a class C component, costs the most, is the best component
weapons don't have different classes per weapon type, neither do most utilities, or cargo racks, fuel tank can only be downgraded to save weight but will limit your jump range in some cases.

the number indicates how large of a component can be fitted. The larger the number the better in most cases. Except in if you want to use a smaller shield or smaller powerplant.

yes the orca is a nice looking ship but it doesn't do anything that another ship can't do better.

whenever you sell a ship be sure to equip the smallest cheapest option for every slot you can't sell outright. This is to lower the value of the ship as much as possible so that when you sell it you make the 10% loss as small as possible.

Why only between those 3? I would get the Asp, it can easily do combat, exploration and trading very well.

Thanks, this is very helpful

If you're going to do exploration you want an advanced discovery scanner and a detailed surface scanner.
weapons and shield cell banks are optional.
you want to lighten up the ship as much as you can. So class D.
a field repair module wouldn't be a bad idea
class A jump drive.
big class A fuel scoop
the asp is the ideal ship for this as is the cobra but of your choices a type 6 can easily do both well.

Thanks.. I think the ASP is the way to go-- I went back and reviewed all the ships, this seems the best for what I'm doing. PYthon looks baddazz, but a bit pricey :)

The Python is a fine ship but it suffers from a low jump range and small fuel tank, not very good for exploration, diecent at trading, excels in combat. And yes the Python is veeeery expensive.
the asp can have more cargo than a type 6 especially with no shields, is designed for exploration, and is quite good in combat doesn't have the best shields so keep that in mind.

Yup, and judging by the fact this guy (or girl) is openly ignoring my question, they obtained their amount of credits in an illegal or exploitative manner. Which doesn't really deserve any sort of help from the community.
going to have to disagree. If someone is asking for help it doesn't matter. They might be looking for information based on their goal of what they should be shooting for. Money being no object might simply mean what ship do I want? It doesn't mean he actually has that amount of credits.

my last thread devolved into something completely off topic, and was locked. I'm just trying to avoid that. If anyone has off topic questions, PM is the appropriate venue.

Yeah no, you don't earn 50 million without Learning these things. If that's true then OP is obviously an exploiter.
