since my last thread drew such universal ire,
I'm thinking of getting an orca, typ-6 or viper. loadouts are very confusing. Assuming credits were not an issue, what are the essentials? Are there any guides out there to the various components and how to understand ratings/etc?
Well answering what the essential items are is kind of a difficult question to answer that will vary person to person.
for the viper its powerplant, power distributor, shields, thrusters, shield cell bank, then weapons obviously. After that it's what you want to do with it. If bounty hunting a kill warrant scanner for example. Are your targets npc or human? Are you going to be jumping or staying in the system?
for the type 6 its all about saving weight and hauling as much as you can or want to.
so for a type 6 you want to upgrade everything but an FSD and the power distributor to a D class for the FSD and PD you want A class. thrusters either D or A depending on your preference. If you don't need the power you can always downgrade your powerplant to a lower number to save even more weight. Shields are optional if you want to use them or not. Some ships come with a shield generator that isn't in the largest slot. You can sell the shield and equip another larger shield I. The larger slot. At the same time you can also downgrade your shield to use the larger slots for cargo.
why class D? Class D is the lightest of the ratings so it will allow you to jump further.
so basic outfitting tips
class E: stock component heavy, not heat efficient, low health if targeted, upgrade asap
class D: better than class E, sometimes use more power, lightest component class
class C: middle of the road, can have heat issues, weighs more, but is generally better then the prior two.
class B: weighs the most, but offers improvement at or near class A while costing less
class A: weighs as much as a class C component, costs the most, is the best component
weapons don't have different classes per weapon type, neither do most utilities, or cargo racks, fuel tank can only be downgraded to save weight but will limit your jump range in some cases.
the number indicates how large of a component can be fitted. The larger the number the better in most cases. Except in if you want to use a smaller shield or smaller powerplant.
yes the orca is a nice looking ship but it doesn't do anything that another ship can't do better.
whenever you sell a ship be sure to equip the smallest cheapest option for every slot you can't sell outright. This is to lower the value of the ship as much as possible so that when you sell it you make the 10% loss as small as possible.
