Newcomer / Intro How Much to Get an Asp

Yep I think so, and spend a million or so to kit it out for trading to earn the extra bits you'll want/need (A5 Frame Shift @ 5M Cr for starters) and have enough left over for insurance and a trading float. It's bit of a shock for maintenance costs at first but you get used to it.

Depends on how you want it set up. If you want to trade in it, then yeah you can do it for the money you are talking but if you want a combat setup you can expect to need a bit more than that. You can easy throw 20 million on ASP upgrades.

agreed as stated in the posts above plus the one addition:
if you go for combat setup, and you want most of it on B with the occasional A rating, you should have about 23 million ready. if you also need things like advanced discovery scanner, go for 25 million to at least have some buffer for your insurance.
did that a few days ago - spent 24m.

PS: especially the shield is tricky.. i almost feel exposed in my B .. would love to go for A but cannot afford it right now. Below B in combat.. will be tricky.
PPS: only crappy thing about it is... B rated stuff increases your weight a lot but u dont really get around fun stuff like a B graded FSD...

Don't go B, avoid B like the plague if possible.
It's too heavy and Asp is already very sluggish, even with A thrusters.

My Exploring Asp cost 20m. 7m is in the Fuel Scoop so could do it with 15m at a pinch. Next time out it will be worth 30m (15m Fuel Scoop)

My Asp has cost me around 12 Million so far and is fairly handy for PvE, it does need a bit more love before I'll be really happy with it though (I really need better shields for her)

PS Do not try and hide in Asteroid fields without shields! (or at least do not bank to find your cockpit view suddenly full of an extremely large rock that is impossible to avoid!) :( ;) (Back to a few runs in my T6 to build up a bit of a cushion before venturing out in Cleo's End again)

While I agree B rating modules aren't ideal for an Asp specifically for certain reasons, I can't agree with "avoiding them like plague". They are heavy because they are much sturdier. If you want a tanky ship whose thrusters won't be destroyed in four hits, go "B" :)

Personally I'd say yes. I too was saving up for the move from Cobra to Asp (I wanted to keep my Cobra too), scared off by running cost horror stories to make the jump too soon. Anyway, when the Lambda Andromedae CG finished (which gave a 1 million credit discount on the Asp) I had 8 million and decided to go for it. I've had no regrets whatsoever. Sure I couldn't fit it out perfectly to start with but it's pretty decent and I was surprised to find I still had over 1 million after outfitting for insurance and running costs. With an easily achievable 92t cargo you can soon rack the credits back up again. The one thing I did find is that the shields vanished faster that I was used to (better shields are still on my shopping list). Consequently, I've jumped back into my Cobra for the Tanmark bounty hunting CG (Asp hull damage is expensive, almost cheaper to get killed and pay the insurance!). Anyway, enjoy - it's a great ship :)

I bet that scoop is something else...

I just fitted out my Cobra yesterday for exploration. Wow, the difference an A4 fuel scoop gives you compared to the class 1 or 2 I had it in previously. Amazing. That only (i say only) cost me 1.6M.

I bought my Asp when I had reached 10m. Fitted it out for trading to begin with. Some of the higher level compartments for that ship are very expensive and all add to your rebuy cost too don't forget.

Yes, around 10m and cobra trade in did it for me. Never looked back and love my asp. Relatively cheap to upgrade to D and then as you go

As soon as you can afford all D you are good to go. Of course you will want to upgrade, but that can be done while already flying the asp. First should be FSD obviously.

That being said, my asp has a sell value of 24 million at the moment and i did not get A shields or armor yet, so it's really open ended what you can spend :)

Bought mine (Lambda Andromedae Edition) with 8 million in cash plus ~3 million from trading in my Type 6. I'm still somewhat short of the 18 million version I need for my desired exploration outfit, but that's because I a) want to keep my Cobra for riskier business and b) want to have at least 2 million + insurance values in reserve.

Totally worth it, anyway, and already (at 11.5 million) lot's of fun in PvE and trading.

Depends what you want to do with your Asp.

You can also find a station with good modules, then sell all of your A parts on your Cobra for more $, then use that to upgrade your Asp. When you want to switch back just sell all your Asp modules and rebuy the Cobra modules. If your ships are in other systems, you can buy a Sidewinder and slap on an A FSD to get to where your Cobra is, then downgrade the Sidey modules and sell if after you've swapped ships.

The curse of the Asp strikes again!

Click to buy the Asp and it will tell you how much you can trade in your Cobra for.
Remember that you lose 10% on all the modules when you just sell the ship as-is. If you do decide to sell the Cobra, sell all the modules or downgrade them to E class in outfitting first. That way, you get the full price of the modules and only lose 10% of the value of the basic ship.

Good to know, I thought trading in a ship, I automatically got the full value for my expensive modules. 10% on a 500k module is 50 thousand, a lot of moola on one module
