FD don't do overtime. Costs too much, hehehe
I really hope that's the case but I doubt it, the gaming industry is notorious for its unending crunch and unpaid overtime.
I would be happy to help set up a "Elite Dangerous *Help staff get good pay*" forum post. If we all donate 1 credit of ingame gold I think we could make some good cash.

As for every patch, the schedule is such that
a) the game is not playable during european primetime
b) Frontier employees in the UK have to work overtime
I really don't see the benefit there. It sounds very much like a lose-lose. Then again it's maybe the Canadian offices who are solely responsible for patch rollouts, but I seriously doubt that.

You get these complaints no matter where you go.
I work support for law firms. And let me tell you, their IT departments can give 2 week notices with reminders that a service will be down on the weekend and to pull whatever work they need off the server beforehand because IT WILL NOT BE AVAILABLE.
There will always be that chucklehead Associate or Partner who thinks he's god's gift to the firm that ignores the warning, then blows a gasket and start firing emails at everybody of "how this can happen" and "how the firm is losing thousands" because of this maintenance window because he ignored the warning and can't do his billable time to ignore the family he hates.
It's what we call "going full user". And the OP? He just went full user.

I vote patches should be undertaken outside of space time so that no one is interrupted (except inter-dimensional species who are playing the next patch anyway!)

We will have it all up and running soon so all I can say is this, Sit back and relax all the worrying will only make you ill. I will download this game very fast as I live in UK. If there is any problems UK players will post here and let you know whats what.

Still none of that explains why 6PM GMT is in any way better than 10AM GMT when the latter
a) would affect european and north american players less
b) would be much more sensible with regards to worktime for Frontier employees in the UK.
Unless you're presuming that the majority of the playerbase lives in east asia or something, the ED update schedule has zero correlation to your chosen example of corporate IT maintenance on weekends.

Out of curiosity what time (uk time) do you think FD should do these updates? Also where are most of the players based that makes mid afternoon in the UK "peak time for most players"?whoever decided to make maintenance in peak time for most of players must be brainless, lolFD pls kick him out,but seriously perfect timing, plus if that is 1.2 release then it will not be possible to play for another x hours, cause download server is somewhere on Greenland.thank you for being so ... cant say cause of rules
