Please change "Push to Mute" to "Push to Talk"

In the options we have the option to set a keybind to mute the mic.

You can choose to set it to Toggle or Hold.

However... this means you can choose to set it to Hold... which effectively means "Push to Mute"

This is completely backwards when it comes to open voice comms. We don't want "Push to Mute", we want "Push to Talk".

Why do we want "Push to Talk"?

So that people have to actually PUSH a button to talk rather than leaving it on open mic.

Why is open mic a problem?

Because noone is interested in listening to people in the Wings shouting commands to Voice Attack, talking to their wife, mouthbreathing, farting, banging utensils together while eating at the computer, not to mention feedback because some people decide to play using a mic without headsets but have the game sounds roaring out of their 5:1 dolby surround instead.

Please, for the love of the Spaghetti Monster, change Push to Mute to Push to Talk.

Push to Mute was fine when there was only voice comms directly to one other party, but with 4 people in a Wing, having it on open mic by default is the worst idea ever.

Thanks.

Isn't it pretty logical and easy to implement though? We're talking about an inverted value, opening mic rather than muting it.

Yesterday I realized that I was broadcasting my conversations with my GF to my entire wing... thank god we did not reach dangerous levels of intimacy...
FD please disable voice talk by default in wings...

+1

If it works for TeamSpeak, it's tried and tested.

At least make it an option. Toggle MUTE is a terrible implementation right now.

I agree. Last night had my first experience in a wing and as soon as I entered the group I realized the problem, as I use voiceattack. I hope they change the setting from push to mute to push to talk. The other solution would be to use the TOGGLE option, but in that case they should add an icon so we know when the mic is open or muted, which seems more complicated to me

Push-To-Talk (PTT) solves all communication issues.

PTT should also be a forced setting, then again perhaps that is just me being grumpy about all the times I had to listen to unnecessary background noise from people who fail to set PTT in Teamspeak etc.

With PTT you can use Voice Attack freely without having to mute the mic for every single command like changing power settings, dropping landing gear, adjusting speed to set values and the plethora of other commands people use in voice attack. Well, at least if you mute it to save your wing from hearing your random chatter.

Absolutely a change that needs to be implemented, and quite silly that it hasn't been implemented as part of the Wings release in the first place.

Seems like an obvious change that has been completely overlooked.

Yes, push to talk as a default is a must.

The bane of online games is the kid inthe group eating a family bag of cheetos into the mic, while whining at his mother, horrible for all other players. Moreover, a lot of innocent and less technical folks will embarass themselves by not realising that they are broadcating.

The people who still use Voice Attack will appreciate it, too.

Make it a default, so people who never bother to check/configure things aren't being antisocial. This is important.

One other thing that might be good is an indicator (maybe on the Comms panel header) of whether the in-game mic setting is muted or live. The Wings interface has an indication as to whether you're transmitting, but I can't find anything on the mute/live setting.
