Great. My next meagre paycheck is immediately going to be spent on getting a fancy-pants joystick now...

One more plus: The pilot's seat has thrusters!

One negative: I really don't like the way ships vanish when they explode... The explosion effect looks awesome, but what happens next just feels wrong and is the essence of arcade. I hope this is something that still has work to be done on it.

I agree about the vanishing destroyed ships - ship wreckage might look way more realistic - but I suppose increases the poly count.

Its looking like Frontier aren't going to be happy until they have bankrupted me. Not only will I probably have to buy a new computer, and an Oculus Rift/3D monitors, but probably a controller too.

I'm kind of curious how the game feels if using a keyboard and mouse as controller? It looks like a controller or HOTAS is going to make for a more enjoyable experience.

Hopefully you give some TLC to the X52 (not pro) also! :)

Got a profile for that too though it annoys me that between the two sticks they changed the order of the buttons requiring a new profile as a result. They have exactly the same buttons so you would think they would be ordered the same too but alas no such luck.

Keyboard and mouse is okay. The hard part is the mouse bit as we're incentivising pitching and rolling which doesn't lend itself well to mouse control in my opinion and it gets worse for pitch and yaw on mouse as yaw is vastly inferior in our game to pitching. I think control pad or joystick really is the way to go.

Going be awsome play it whit that joystick and oculus rift.

Hmmm can i afford this???

Satek X52 Pro set cost around £170
Oculus rift £180 (maybe even free) £0

= £170 --> £330

Dont look too expencive i might invest in em. :D

I am pretty shocked, this is the best update ever.

Really, really impressive job until now.

I wonder, how you work in frontier offices ? 24/7 at week ?
How you completed such massive work in so few months ?
Incredible.

best part.. the cockpit responses : cold/damages etc...

ED = 2 SC =1 now.

...and the most exciting match of the century is goin on (lol joking ofc, there is no match at all .. it's a wonderful time where we can choose between two, sure, wonderful game).

Understood. Perhaps the pitch and yaw could be remapped from the mouse to keyboard instead? i.e. the old redefine keys trick. :) In such an instance let the player decide to use the mouse or not. :)

edit: I've been meaning to get a controller for games anyhow.. be interesting to see what you guys suggest down the line.

This makes me very happy. :)

At least based on the videos the gameplay looks very Elite.

Sucks for the mouse proponents, but an xbox controller isn't expensive.

You can rebind the controls however you want ;)

Perhaps there can be some tessellated debris field effects added as space junk flies past your ship and then can disappear gradually into the void. Just my 2c.

*runs back in glee to watch the update video for the 100th time* :D:cool::)

Mouse and keyboard, while being extremely versatile, do not map well for 6FoD. Heck, even HOTAS are not panaceas for the medium. All the input controllers that are currently available do not map perfectly for an environment where there is no medium resistance (air/water/ground/etc).

With the resurgence of Space Sims hopefully joystick companies (Saitek and others) will come up with input devices that are fully adapted to 6FoD.

:)

It's not that bad really, I don't see analog input being a requirement for horizontal/vertical translational controls or throttle for example.

That video was excellent, really nice to see a bridge and someone actually floating through a ship asset or in-game (not sure). And to see the footage from in game, it looks amazing.

Though this idea that control pad or joystick might be better than keyboard and mouse is concerning.. can't the controls be tweaked until they are not possibly inferior? I much prefer using a mouse as my analogue choice of input, personally. I may pick up a control pad anyway, but it just concerns me that those without these peripherals could be at a disadvantage.

Edit; Apologies if I am reading that wrong.
