It's not that bad really, I don't see analog input being a requirement for horizontal/vertical translational controls or throttle for example.

It's really nice for throttle though. For the thrusters though I think you're right, it doesn't make that much difference between analogue and digital.

Just bought an X52 pro and pedals based on that video alone :)

It's going to be awesome!

I haven't used a hotas system but one thing that strikes me is that your arms are sort of perched at an uncomfortable angle. We're gonna have to get some **** pit seating sorted so its comfy to use.

Is it possible to some how attach the throttle and joystick control to a computer chair? I can see myself with the throttle attached to the left arm rest, and the joystick between my legs ( yeah no joking ). and a keyboard on the desk a head of me.

edit: lol.. the profanity filter got me on a false positive.

I've been a bit sceptical about the game's progress last couple of months, but I'm really impressed by this update video.

Even on the low quality low tube video you really get the impression that combat is fast and twitchy. I hope my 'mature' reflexes can keep up with all the young upstarts I'll have to kill and loot ;)

Do you guys think my wife will hate me much if I buy an Occulus Rift btw?

Fantastic update. I really appreciated the shots of people using it for real, makes it all the more tangible. Wife was asking what I wanted for xmas. X52 Pro just went on the amazon wish list :)

Mike! I've got a question. Will the game be able to recognise more than one throttle? I ask because my joystick has twin independent throttles (although you can link them into one too) and was thinking on, say something like an Imperial Courier, being able to fire just one engine could help in pulling off some quick turns.

I don't think we're going to have individual throttle control like that but you can certainly bind the second throttle axis to something else though.

Cheapest (UK) X52 & X52 Pro I could find:

DABS.

£85 and £110 (with a penny change) respectively.

Same price at the BT SHOP.

Get 'em while you can?

HTH.

By the way, I loved the video, so congrats to the whole team - it's all shaping up to be a spectacular game, and I personally can't wait for a spot of Beta!

One teensy weensy request though, please make sure the stunning (seriously amazing) cockpit visuals and especially the canopy bars don't obscure too much of the outside view. Pretty please.

Gotta go and watch the video again... :D

I have the X52 is there much improvement in the X52 Pro? I'm saving for a OR at the moment...
Apparently the "Pro" was Saitek's response to a few minor criticisms of the original.

The main joystick was enhanced with extra sensors to remove a dead-zone issue, There's a dual spring on the main stick now, the MFD was revamped, some components and switches were replaced with metal, the lights are all fully customisable for brightness and colour (rather than just intense blue) and they made it black rather than spacey silver.

Thanks Rog, I'll try numerous control options:)

I bet that holographic overlay looks incredible with the Oculus Rift. It just dawned on me how 3D it already looks without wearing an Oculus, I can hardly wait to try it with one on.:D

Just wondering does FD plan to model every cockpit with a door hatch system as seen there? The reason I ask is in case of a pirate boarding party, that would make a very convenient panic room and open the possibility of pirates just looting and leaving your ship intact if they dont have a way of getting in, however some kind of plasma cutting torch for the uber determined pirate would really be in high demand from the nearest space station methinks. :D

Oh btw, did I see a 1:1 scale procedurally generated planet in the background?
