Abandon your attempt to kill pirate

I still am waiting for a reply to my ticket. In fact I'm still waiting for a reply for my ticket from last month. Sigh. I just want them to delete the thing from my transaction list. I don't do ANY mission any more. I have had problems with all of them. I loved the one where I took a Navy mission (for 8,384 credits) in my Eagle that was laid out in all A gear. I jump into the instance and 300 feet in front of my is the wanted Pirate. With a Deadly rating in a Anaconda with plasma guns. I hit my gun button but before my guns can come out the Anaconda blows my ship away. This all takes place in less then 2 seconds after jumping into the instance. Uh yeah. And others too. Their missions are so borked I have no desire to do any of them thank you. When they get them fixed I'll do them. Till then, uh nope. Not happening. I love the game but it has more bugs then a entomologist laboratory. LOL.

Its just a stupid feature that needs to be removed... If I choose to select a bounty mission from the bulletin board, for the faction that I wish to obtain reputation with, I should be able to go about my business without this constant interference from 'supposedly' enemy faction npc who offer a counter mission. Quite often I find it bugs the counter when I try to ignore the new mission offer and no matter what I kill I get no count added. Then I have to abandon all and lose rep.

...

I had the same problem today two times. Ticketed.

So lets bump this here till we get any response.

I ticketed this glitch a while back, it is a bug with the kills resetting as I've had this myself.

It does need fixing.

These "alternate mission paths" are one of the most unintuitive mechanics I have ever encountered in a video game. Give us a proper dialog, that states the alternatives we can choose between and a list of rewards/fines/consequenses that every choice implies. THEN I would be able to make a reasonable choice. The way it is now is just highly irritating.

Yes. It's very unclear as the original mission dissappears from the left side panel completely. Apparently you can still complete it but this should be handled better. Also, if it's true that the killcount gets reset that's even worse.

Lost 1 mission because of it because my killcount was at 6 out of 7, the "trader" approached me, my counter went back to 0 out of 7 and I didn't have enough time left to complete it. Needs fix. Badly.

Can't believe it. I just completed TWO kill missions (one for a pirate and one for a trader) and, at the very last minute- I'm talking I killed my last trader in the system I was supposed to kill them in ... and then traveled to a completely unrelated system where I was going pirate hunting and was approached by a random guy in the first USS I found who offered me creds in exchange for abandoning the mission .... WHO RESET MY KILL COUNT TO ZERO!!!

I had three trader kills (it took me about 45 minutes at least to find even that many, which is something that is broken in itself imho), thought I had completed the mission, and then ran into one of these guys in a different system, who offered me 'a way out'.

Name of the game until they fix this broken mechanic: take one of these missions at a time, stop at as many USS's as you can until you get this random guy (who will ALWAYS approach you inexplicably ...), ignore him, and then start killing traders. And return to base as soon as humanly possible to claim your reward.

I hate these guys. Half fearing to be interdicted at this point on my way back to base by one of these idiots just to reset my kill count to zero ...

I don't like to moan, Frontier, but...

HOW IS THE KILL COUNT RESET BUG STILL IN THERE AND HAPPENING?!

IT HAS A 100% REPRO CASE AND REALLY CAN'T BE THAT MUCH WORK TO SORT OUT!

I still don't understand this whole thing..

Are these pirates bad or good...it is never really clear. Also why does the counter reset when you meet the "good" pirate?

So confusing.

Oh, I should have read the above few posts..is a bug... so stupid. It makes taking these missions pointless.

Didn't know this has been happening since December. Maybe the devs don't know about it. Hopefully that font will get them :)

Yes, Virginia, there really IS a bug in the missions

Folks, the definition of an application bug is unexpected and undesired behavior. This turd of a game is screwing up my pirate kill missions
WITHOUT EVEN ASKING ME
if it's okay to do that. This is buggy behavior. Frontier, please fix. Else, please scrub all kill/retrieve/whatever missions wherein this stupidity can happen.

Had the same mission today. The new contact told me to meet him on a different station (which was about 150LY away(!)), and i only had 3 hours to get there.

Thing is, when i got there after 2 hours of travelling, it seemed that i had to abandon the mission first and "pick up my payment".
So does that mean i have to fly back to complete the mission and fly back AGAIN to meet the person?
If so.. oh dear. :S

Yeh I was told to meet his buddies in a station, but was given no system info. I had no clue what system his station is in, I finally worked out that I had to abandon the mission, then it updated again with the system. Who ever is writing these missions must be smoking the same stuff I am.

Hey guys -

I'm enjoying this game greatly, as I expected I would. This game is truly amazing.

I'm a bit confused about this "abandon your attempt to kill pirate" mission that pops up suddenly. This is what happened:

1) Got mission in system A to kill pirates in sectors B, C, D.
2) I happen to be in sector E.
3) I find a signal and I stop to see it.
4) It's a -clean- trader.
5) He gives me the "abandon your attempt" thing saying that I don't have to be such a monster and kill innocent traders.

This is the second time that happens.

Is there something I'm missing? This is all very strange. I'm not in the right sector, the guy is not a pirate (it's clean). Could this be a bug?

Is it wrong to assume that every "pirate" will be "wanted"? Because if I get a mission to kill pirates, I assume I'm not going to be killing innocent bystanders and get a bounty because of it.

Thanks guys.

I'm loving this, and I'm here for the long, long haul!

The wording and what you are supposed to do is not clear. It wouldn't be very hard for FD to edit the text a bit and I wish they would.

They need to spend a little less time on the PvP and group mechanics and some effort to clean up the mission bugs, naval progression go to the permit world missions, and perhaps even add some additional branched missions. My worry is all the effort is going to port over the games to console and not to fixing some really easy things.

Happen to me to too. Anyone already report it into the bug section? This is very annoying. THEY HAVE to give us the ability to choose between the two paths. It's ridiculous to be force to do something...

FD aren't seriously claiming this to be the intended behaviour are they? If someone contracts me to kill 5 pirates and then a pirate suggests I kill 5 cops instead, why would the first person disregard all the pirates I've killed up until the point I had a meeting they don't know I had? Answer: they wouldn't.

It's a frustrating, lousy, eminently reproducible and easy to fix bug. Why hasn't it been fixed?

I'm on an Assassination mission, found a USS where I was offered a new target (which I don't want to take), but after 2+ hours of USS fishing, I cannot get a lead to the location of my original target.

I'm sorry but apparently it is not a bug. It was written this way. For some unfathomable reason they thought this would be entertaining.
Well at least it's implemented in a very amateurish way. And it would not be entertaining even if it were implemented properly (with adequate info of WHAT IS HAPPENING, HOW DO I CONTINUE MY ORIGINAL MISSION?)

I've mentioned the same issues, especially the abandon kill mission issue is extremly anoying,

....but there is also one good news: Pirates killed by dragging them out of supercruise now count to mission kills.

Yesterday I dragged a 5 ship pirate wing out of supercruise, nearly fulfilling my contract in one battle.
I hope the best for the other issues.
