HOW TO GRIND - Lugh system - Guide to Operation Dullahan

I've already signed up as a Fed at Hartfield Market. If I went and did this, would this impact me (rank progression, etc)?

also, to smuggle stuff into a space station, how do you do that?

I don't think your reputation will suffer. I have killed a lot of Feds and yet they still show as neutral.
As for smuggling its not so hard, you just need to go in the station as fast as you can to avoid being scanned. I highly recommend flying stealth, although it will disable your shields. Note: being busted smuggling is not that bad: you will get a fine (not a bounty) more or less equal to the value you carry. Ie. you won't make credits but won't lose any either.

Excellent post, OP. I followed to the tee, but you forgot to mention that, in open, THE FEDS ARE FREAKING PLAYERS WITH BAD ASS SHIPS !

i could not get any close to the T9 during my 3 attempts at the beacon....Lugh was on fire tonite, there were Feds everywhere and people everywhere as well....died like 4 times and lost 2MM credits in rebuys...

And still, had lots of fun...I simply reject going to Solo for this mission...plus serious cmdrs are making the experienc a one to remember...the War in Lugh is bringinh real people together with a purpose and it is amazing....

Thanks for the comment. I am myself playing in Solo. I would prefer full online but it's a hole new level as the feds are all around, and I cannot afford loosing my new vulture. I might give it a try if I find people for a wing. BTW I will edit the OP and add a disclaimer :D

Also, deploy chaff when being scanned to halt the process & slip inside.

Wait... chaff can also disrupt scanners??? You jsut made my day, I got a ~300k fien yesterday, I was not very happy about it!

Has anyone actually been scanned yet? I think station security are distracted by the war.

I have, but only twice over many runs. I won't call it fully safe but it is rather easy!

Not sure if this is normal but around 4 out of my 5 attempts, the T9 carrying the cargo dropped nothing, I did not destroy it, I made sure to get the cargo hatch to 0%. My result was a bunch of nothing. Am I supposed to use limpets? This mission doesn't seem that great compared to regular shooting if I can't get the T9 to spawn even a ton.

Happened to me too. I basically get from 0 to 12 canisters, 12 being very unusual, and 0 happening sometimes. I realize that shooting the hatch down to 0% we might actually destroy the canisters before or at the very moment they fall. You should try to keep the hatch at about 50% and see if there is a difference.

When I try this, once I hit the hatch there are 15 ships on me..and I can get cargo out but usually the ships all destroy it?

Well it seems the canister can be easily destroyed. If you start fighting feds before you recover the canisters they will most likely be can at the time your try to scoop them. So yeah you should 1) get the hatch; 2) destroy the T9 (he will chase you otherwise); 3) Get the canisters ASAP; 4) kill the remaining feds for bonds :)

This actually only happened to me once. Once you attack the Type-9 obviously all his buddies go hostile, but if you are in a good ship you can just ignore them and scoop, as you said. I don't even kill the T9 til after I scoop but I guess I could try that. Only one run went bad because all the Feds seemed to have hit the canisters.

The other 4 times I ran it I was able to fill my whole cargo without problems...takes a bit of practice because I had not done ANY scooping before..the little radar thing is a bit...iffy...I've learned it doesn't have to be right in the center but rather on the bottom half (maybe that's intentional, I dunno) So I just scoop em up, then switch on the combat mode (picking side) and take out the ships... Even with just 16T that's about 1m a run if you kill all the ships and fill the cargo (little under a mil, depends on the ships you kill)

Very nice and it's fun. More fun than sitting on top the Capital ship and just shooting things. This takes way more skill as you have to avoid all the fire, try to stay in one piece, scoop the stuff at the same time, then turn on the enemies. Very fun. 5am here and I have work..I wish I didn't I could have done that for many more hours.

Kudos for you in doing it properly. I think thats amazing and how all should be if they participate.

Hey guys Just thought i'd throw in some hatch Info - Hatches drop when they malfunction, if you see it flash red when you shoot it its gonna start, don't shoot it again until its finished dropping and closed again. Its entirely random when this starts, I've had it start at 90% before and one of the T9's i shot yesterday didn't drop anything until it got to 15%. As soon as the hatch hits 0% it won't drop anymore, you need it to malfunction to drop, when it hits 0% its broken the same as if you turned it off. You should be able to get between 15-25 out of every T9 with a bit of practice its hard work but its also brilliant thruster control practice.

I found C2 gimballed pulses to be the best weapon for chipping away at it, as they only did around 7% per hit, don't use C3 cannons they break it in one hit :(

Wow that is very good to know, thank you so much. I already figured out 0% was terrible but I didn't know cargo release was related to malfunction. Now without destroying the hatch I usually get about 16 canisters.
+ rep

Anyway we haven't reached the first tier yet, we need you commanders!

The type 9 starts dropping at 70% hatch health. I use two small gimballed pulse lasers on my asp and it works perfectly. Once it stops dropping i take the hatch dow another 10% and keep repeating this until it stops all together at around 20% - 30%. I had 24 million on monday, now I have 65 Million. Fer de Lance here I come <3

Added note: i reccomend a heat sink and reinforced bulkheads for anyone new to smuggling who is looking to do this. I always silent run the military intelligence because having 27 in my hold is a 1 million dollar fine.

Yup. Don't let it get down to 0%. You will get nothing. I have to be very careful with my C3 beams, a couple of well placed blips. :D
I usually take out the dropship 1st, then check the T9 health, if it's not being battered by the NPCs I then take out the Conda, then move onto the T9.
And yes, excellent strafing/thruster practice, specially in my hefty python.

I've been dropping into solo to hit the beacon, I found in open I spend so much time tangling with the Feds I'm not actually achieving anything except chasing off Fed pilots.

An alternative is a private group with even teams. At least that way you can avoid the Federation zerg train and still have some solid pvp fun.

I destroyed 3 principal hauler cargo scoops in a row, none of them dropped anything :(

Don't destroy the hatch entirely. It stops leaking cargo when it is destroyed. Attack it until it's around 20-15% and get ready to scoop between 10 and 15 canisters on average :)

I'll give it a shot, thanks for the tip :)

Thanks again, just got 8 tons out of one, the second one was oblitaretad by the NPCs while I was busy trying to get off my back literally every fed in the instance while the CSGs were busy blowing up my profits and not helping me in any way...

sorry if this has been asked before:

all this killing of fed ships and war bonds paid, does it count towards our combat rating or not?

It does but you MUST give the bonds back to BALANDIN. If you drop them at Hartsfield you will get money but that won't count for the community goal. I "lost" 7m like that :(
