Why isn't this in the game?

1. Gold farmers would ruin the game

Off the top of my head.

They will do anything and i mean anything to keep up with demand upto and including.

Automated macro bots running the same thing over and over 24/7
Constant and i mean constant chat spam with how wonderful their service is and how cheap they are.

and now the big one's

They will, and do use key loggers for account theft.
Constant barrage of emails pretending to be the development studio usually citing dud info that you are about to be be banned, follow the link in the email and fill in your details to prevent it.

You obviously have not played many mmo's

Gold farmers argument is crap. Why the hell would some sweatshop play this game to sell credits? It's not WOW (in that it's no where near as successful as WOW by a margin almost as wide as the accurately modeled galaxy in ED).
For gold farmers to be an issue your game needs to be MASSIVELY successful else there is little money to be made.
Gold farmers are just another bogeyman for certain irrational forumites.
If it ever becomes an issue (and it won't) then FD can counteract them by selling their own Credits.

I've played lots of MMOs, never known one to be ruined by gold farmers.

Spammers always popped in Eve around Jita, had a few PM me in WoW (although I didn't play wow long), but funnily enough I didn't give them my email address or any login credentials.

And why would anyone in ED steal your account for credits? People already have hacks that can generate ~500m overnight, account theft is a bit redundant.

So because "you" don't see it as an issue, it's not an issue.

Glad we got that straightened out.

I can't think of a way how a macro bot could do a trade run completely autonomously.

Constant and i mean constant chat spam with how wonderful their service is and how cheap they are.

Their accounts would be banned in no time.

How will they install a key logger on my machine?

how do they get my e-mail address?

I can speak only for myself... I played a lot of MMOs, including really popular ones, and never had an issue with what you are describing.

1. who said anything about trade runs? i never.
2. granted, they will be back spamming again with another hacked account
3. via the scare tactic emails at a guess
4. no idea but they do.

I don't play WoW (tried the trial, hated it) yet i still on occasion get the dud emails claiming to be from blizzard. on an email not affiliated with a battle net account.
I also get them for GW2 have done for a long time, again no idea how they got my email, i don't sign up to random websites with my gaming emails.

Now i'd usually say that the people that get hacked are the people buying the gold and or services the farmers offer, some eeeejuts actually sign up to the gold buying sites with the same details as their login, this would be how they initially get hold of accounts.

If people were not impatient and had to have the best of everything now! the gold farming would go away.
But alas, people are impatient and buy from them it's a circle that needs breaking.

Given that I've played both GW2 and Wow, and don't get those emails, you may want to consider that those games companies aren't the source of the breach.

The non-random websites simply sold or passed on your email address, they all get compiled into one monster list and that list is used for email targets regardless of what the email address was associated with. If I want to spam a load of email addresses with my WoW phishing site, I don't actually care at all whether or not that email address or person is associated with WoW or any other game, it's easier just to spam them all. That's simply how it works.

Once again

Gold spammers are unlikely because

Single accs at 40 a pop make it unprofitable
Making ai that can do the things needed to make credits too hard - mining? No. grinding ai bounties safely? No. Trading anywhere except between two very low profit stations? No.
Lack of ability to communicate wares in game. Big universe, few players, few player comgloms and I imagine players would be proactive in punishing gold sellers.
Few pay to win items.

It's nonsense. Also read all the damn thread.

Making "AI" that can grind credits in this game is not hard. Credit farming "bots" already exist, albeit ones that you just sit in a RES or multi-client station traders, just do a cursory google search.

(I say "AI" and "bots" because they aren't really AI/bots, but you know what I mean. They automatically generate income over a set period of time once setup by the user.)

Also not that I agree gold farming would be an issue: only that using hacks to grind out credits is possible/easy.

No it's not, and there the argument ends, your a troll looking for an argument to your comment, pathetic!!
To be fair, when a game launches without the ability to form wings, no content aimed at group play and no social functions I think saying it's largely a single player game is reasonable.

And it's not just him saying it, in almost every review of ED that was the primary complaint.

"gold farmers would ruin the game"

funny that, how there are dozens if not hundreds of other mmo's on the market, all with player ecoomies and the ability to transfer.. none of them have been 'ruined' and all figured out ways to mitigate the gold farming issue to acceptable levels. hell, eve even legalized RL gold buying with their 'PLEX' system and did not crumble as a result -- in fact most of the player base saw it as a reall, really good thing since it gives people the ability to skip the brainless trade/mine/mission grind and get to the meat of the game -- flying your ship

Eve and other games that use a RL money to buy in game currency also have many other ways to get gear and money, like crafting of achieving certain activities. Elite does not.

Before 1.2 it was very pretty easy to stay with your friends and follow them in and out of SC. It was not as structured as wings no but you could do it unless there is another space game MMO like Elite that had a "Wings" mechanic FD should have modeled it after?

I play a lot of games that have an in-game economy. Some of those are computer generated economies but most are controlled by the players. I thought at first that Elite would have this same concept. Of players controlling the prices but I guess I'm wrong. And not only wrong but really disappointed by that. Creating a team of mining vessels with security is not really an option since you can't even trade credits with each other. Prices are different per person on the same station and gathering ore is becoming a tedious task with that cargo scoop making it the main reason to team up in the first place.

So what I really am wondering is this:

Why isn't there a credit or cargo trading system in Elite?
Why isn't the Tractor beam or a Cargo droid invented?
Why are prices in the same station different for each player?
Why isn't there a Docking QUEUE instead of the fastest clicker wins?

I've played Freelancer and EVE for the majority of my Space games and I kinda thought and hoped Elite would be the perfect mix. It looked like it, but the more I play the more it looks like a single player game with random people in it that only affect you in combat rather than anything else.

Of course I too want to walk around in my ship, on planets or on a station. Much rather than just stare at a monitor in my ship to do business I walk around the station looking for vendors but to me that's not even on the priority list of what's above. Looting, trading and economy is much more important in creating an active community right now :(

Remember, Elite is still a new game and the devs will still be working on ensuring that basic systems are working as intended. some people say that a new on-line game is usually not worth playing for at least six months to a year. While I like to jump in and get stuck in from as early as possible, I can also see their point.
A good solid base system is what is needed first, give FD a chance to get that in place, then hopefully we will see what you have suggested and more.

How so? It is not like you are forced to buy gold(gold??) or that there is much progression to be had at all.

Why?

But slickreed said there is no other point to playing ED than making credits.

It's pretty obvious you haven't read the entire thread, I suggest doing so to prevent people repeating themselves. Thx

Eve has Fleets, STO has teams/fleets, I seem to remember playing Entropy on Steam which let you group up (but I can't remember the mechanic's name). It would be easier to ask what multi-player games don't have the capacity to group up with other players (none that I'm aware of).

On top of that you have a market system which revolves around trading with NPCs, piracy which is balanced and aimed primarily at pirating NPCs, bounty hunting which is balanced around hunting NPCs, "community goals" which are best done in solo mode...

I don't think dismissing his comment out of hand is entirely fair.

Ive played WOW, SWTOR and many more, received those fake emails in all those MMOs. Gold farmers were even alive and well in ESO before launch In dungeons boss killing over and over preventing players from being able to progress.

Eve also has battleships that can only jump 10lys, can't lock onto stars instead can only pen point deployable beacons to jump to from frigs, uses jump gates because........ Reasons, can't use curtain weapons unless you train For 6 RL months. Should Elite copy all these game mechanics or come up with its own game?

Lol good jump avoiding the point!

Given that the only Eve mechanic I mentioned was the ability to form fleets/wings, which Elite has copied... The rest are all just indications that this is predominantly a single player game, which you are denying.
