Elite boring?

I've been playing the game for a week, it seems there's nothing to do except farm.
Either by fighting random wanted enemies or by trading:

Trade rout: Trade > earn enough to upgrade > buy a ship with more storage > repeat

Fight rout: kill wanted targets > upgrade modules / ship > kill wanted targets > repeat

There's really no sense of progress except farming money.

There's no real exploration, nothing new to do...

Yep, that's Elite Dangerous. It is pretty boring. It's not surprising, there's really not much you can do in the game. It's extremely shallow.

The complete lack of difficulty certainly doesn't help.

I have to ask, because I'm looking at the site right now, and I do not see how you could not know what the game is like, it clearly states things that are in the game now, and you can read that they are clearly indicating that it is an evolving game, meaning it only going to get better from this point on? so I fail to see how Frontier is to blame for you seeming not examining and finding out about a game before you bought it, I am not trying to insult you or anything but that is your fault, not frontiers.

I'm sorry but Forntier has missold this game. No real background sim, no decent NPC AI, no organically evolving galaxy...its just manually inserted events from FD plus a basic economy if you can call it that with the same stations in and that's it! I bought this game with the vision frontier gave us and its mostly untrue.

My outlook on life is very simple. If you find elite boring then sod off and play something else.

Well I paid 100quid so although im bored i wont sod off as i want frontier to make the game better!

Yeah. I've been starting to hear that this is true. At least that its not really a dynamic economy and events have to be inserted. This detracts from the longevity and the future of the title.

They haven't missold the game. There is a background simulation. If there wasn't, then why were all the stations around the place where they were building that station empty of palladium, gold and silver? Everyone was buying those commodities from those stations and they ran dry; and those were their listed exports. That tells me there is a background simulation.

As for it being boring a lot of the time, I'm sorry. This is a spaceflight simulator. You bought the wrong game. Space flight is inherently boring. Spaceflight has been described as tens, dozens, hundreds, thousands (take your pick which) of hours of boredom interspersed with moments of abject terror. I would use the term 'action' instead of 'terror', but I think I made my meaning clear. So yeah, it's going to be boring at times. That's the nature of the beast.

I still love it and am having a blast. And yeah, there are some things that need working on. Especially the smuggling mechanic. But it's getting there.

Maybe space flight is inherently boring but Space games should not be. Yes I bought the wrong game.
I am currently enjoying and not being bored in other space games where the game play is not "inherently boring"

So you wanted more of an arcade style game. Nothing wrong with that. Myself, I prefer a more life like experience, but that's just me. To each their own. I'm just curious, though, which space games are you playing? If it's Star Citizen Arena Commander, then never mind.

I was just thinking of logging in, when I realized all I really do is kill NPC over and over for more and more credits, as I find the idea of trading incredibly boring and exploring almost as bad. Thanks for reminding me I had SC AC, think I might pop that in and see what's happening with it.

We just need some campaigns and some capital ships to fight/ally with. Of course... planetary landings would be cool too but that would require more time for content creation.

It's not the arcade style I want its more depth and co operation, effecting the universe and feeling its a living world. I'm not into Pvp.

I wasn't going to mention it but seeing you asked, the game I play the most now is " Ascent - The Space Game ".
I don't feel alone because there is universe chat, I never feel I need to wait for anything there is always things to do and plans to make.
I progress at a good speed and the feel of grinding is very minimal.

What I love about Elite is the "in the cockpit flying feel" but there is Not enough game to go with that "feel" to keep my interest.
I check in at the forum and I wait for major updates to make this into a "full" game.
"wings" was not enough for me as none of my friends play this and I don't know anyone to join with. Some kind of system/universe chat would help.

I still hope for a great game from E D some day.

Guys, guys, guys, (forgive my presumption, if in error)! It could be, and should be, both! The elements are there, and the previous games did provide for both camps.

What's missing this time 'round is acknowledgement and incorporation of all the advances made in game design since the last game, and also some paying attention to the world that has developed.

In the last games, everything seemed futuristic - we, the real-life we, didn't even have the internet back then. It was a different world. This game doesn't acknowledge the advances in communication we have made in 20 years. But I've gone over this before, I don't want to again.

Instead, look at mining in the game. And then read a science publication. We, as a species, are making our first steps into off-world mining. The research is being done. Experiments will be performed. Progress will be made,

But does anyone, in their sickest, most fevered fantasies, believe that we, the human race, will chase fragments of rock around in space ships in order to capture the ore we mine? We have knowledge of NETS, for crying out loud! Honest-to-god, NETS!

"Ah! But, FD are making the game THEY want to play. Decisions were made for
gameplay purposes, that might make the game differ from real life."

No. Not "Ah!". It's an artefact of lack of design. I feel embarrassed for this game. Elite - A Michael Bay Production.

True there is a basic simulation of the economy whereby goods are traded and demand/supply fluctuates between systems but this is just affected by trading and the inserted community goals. Not exactly the immersive galaxy simulation i was expecting? Also do wars affect these economies, do factions affect it or is it just a bunch of numbers?

I've seen a lot of people mention it's a spaceflight simulation. Now it's a simulation as much as you fly in space but there are extra measures to improve combat which is good and I understand space is huge and so it can take time to supercruise and jump to systems which can get boring but I love that about the game, its the best part of it for sure! However once you get to a system you see the same stations as in others, you trade and you see the same drone NPCs. It's the content once you are there and the interaction with the galaxy that bugs me.

And don't get me wrong I've played since PB had lots of fun flying around trading, exploring and combat but then what? The goals are get more credits for ships and rank up in the different areas of he game, I was maybe expecting more, better missions, better faction interactions a reason to exist in the galaxy other than to get ranks but maybe more of this will come and hopefully it will become more organic, events will just happen people in game will cause them and AI in game will be better.

It's a work in progress though and I suppose another year of development and patience is needed.

It is a bit shallow, I'll admit that. Wasn't Eve Online kind of shallow when it was 1st released? We're only a little more than 3 months into release here. There are going to be problems, there are going to be issues. There's going to be some shallowness. I still say this is the best dang playable spaceflight simulator out there. But it may not be the best space game out there. But in a year or two or three, it will most likely be either the best, or in the top 3; and even with that, it will depend on who you ask. Nothing is ever the best to everyone.

EVE had player run markets, player crafting, player corporations and was fully player run. I mean, players alone are dynamic, unscripted and have endless game play. 1 player > 100 AI scripts

My advice is that if you're bored, do something else for a while. If you end up itching to play again, great! If not, why punish yourself?

It's never going to be everyone's thing, and that's ok.

"You cannot give Reputation to the same post twice."

oh yeah ???!

Because you would have deserved it ;) hehe, words of wisdom

But you know, I hear some would say that a lot of the frustration would not occure if the game description would have been more precise to some type of gamers :)

I like Elite a lot, and I play it a lot. But, when I talk about Elite to my friends, I have to tell them : beware, this is not exactly an mmo sandbox, it is more of a RP multiplayer game in a persistant universe, and if you don't like RP, or if you want massive pvp battles, you shouldn't get it. But if you enjoy RP in a nice spaceship in our sweet sweet universe, then you should get it.

This is of course only my personal opinion, but I know it keeps some of my friends from experiencing that frustration we see here and there that I can understand.

I still say you are expecting too much just 3 months into release. Eve Online had those things at launch? Ok. I'll take your word for it, but it's comparing apples and oranges. That's more executive control than it is First Person Shooter. And there's nothing wrong with executive control; it's not my cup of tea, but it obviously is a lot of other people's.

But for a lot of us hardcore space gamers, this game is a dream come true. Sure it will be a lot better a year or so down the line, but we didn't want to have to wait another whole year for a released game which is what would have happened if they had waited. I'm glad they released it when they did. I've had loads of fun and do every time I login. Which is every day.
