[ANNOUNCEMENT] Win an Nvidia Geforce Titan Black in our in-game Scavenger Hunt

The way I read it, then the prototypes does not exist in solo play. Even if you went to the right station, it wouldn't be for sale, unless you are in open mode.
Also, if you log out while having this in your cargo, whether it is combat logging or 'legit' logging, the prototype will disappear from your cargo, and you would have to go back to buy another.
Also, my guess is that this particular piece of cargo will not get flagged as 'stolen' if it is taken off the cadaver of a destroyed ship.
At least that would be what makes most sense to me.

it would be really nice if we knew if station/system name is some kind of riddle that has to do with nvidia, or it is completely random.

Who gives a damn about main mode or not, I play the game how and when I choose and should have an equal opportunity to win the prize without having the run the gauntlet of better equipped or better skilled human pilots.

I am absolutely fine dodging computer controlled adversaries.

Except getting to do it in solo mode is not an "equal opportunity" to win. You want an easy, free lunch mode. You want to be exempt from the rules.

Frontier laid out the rules of the contest. You (and everyone else) participates by those rules or you don't participate.

I almost didn't go into work today because I wasn't feeling so hot this morning. If only I had taken the lazy way out. Now I still got 3 more hours before I can begin Titan hunting.

i was at godel ring in open like 30 min ago. nobody in the system, nobody in the station. at least not yet.

Must be an instance thing. I was there about 45 minutes ago and there was about a dozen or more ships just hanging out chatting about the competition.

Godel Ring has a blackmarket

But you seem to overlook the fact that this is not entirely separate environments. Actions in solo effect open and vice versa. This is not about an easy lunch this is about choosing not to flag for pvp. You don't see this kind of behavior in other mmo's.

How to get to the station without being robbed:

1. Find the canister and buy it.
2. Arrive at Godel.
3. Find the name of a Cdr, ASAP.
4. Drop out of supercruise and go silent/hide as best you can.
5. Add Cdr name to your blocked players list.
6. Re-enter supercruise. Repeat steps 3-6 until you reach the station.

Hopefully FD would be able to spot this sort of thing.

Blocking only stops communication between players, it doesn't block the player.

Yeah it is challenging... random lucky-dip hopping from station to station? Or find relevant system or station names...

What a riddle. :D

It doesn't matter what other MMOs do/are doing/have done. They have nothing to do with this. This is what Frontier is doing.

To have an even playing field for the contest everyone has to play in the same mode. You either think you can run the inevitable player blockade, or join them and hope you can scoop up ill-gotten gains.
