I'm not saying " Make the solo play rewards lower." I'm saying, add a little more reward for Open players.
The two are one and the same.
The best option for Open I can see is player interaction sith the world. Let us buy stations, or take them by force from other players. Maybe the controller of the station will get a little CR every time a ship does trading there. This would work both in PVE and in PVP, but in Open it will have a little more reward, since we can have SMALL battles over those stations, and a little fun. What i'm saying is, make Open a little more interractive, while this goes for Solo play aswell, in Open it will be more rewarding "fun-wise".
I completely disagree with allowing players to buy stations or take them by force, at least as long as the game is online-only with a shared universe (though I could agree with players building
new stations). On the other hand, I agree that open needs to be made enticing by making player interaction more fun and engaging. I'm not saying rewarding, mind, because I don't think extra rewards should ever be used as a lure to draw players into open — that only serves to move to open players that actually have more fun playing solo, reducing their enjoyment of the game in the name of providing more fish in the barrel to be shot at.
And as i'm sure you are aware, there are clearly more players in Open. Yes they are not mature and they troll, but they are the ones who bring in the most money...
I doubt it. The pools about whether players are in open or solo have one big, unsurmountable flaw: sociable players are both more likely to play in open and to participate in the forums. And we don't have the data to correct for that bias.
Only Frontier can tell where most players are, and they aren't telling.
I would say quite the opposite. Open players don't come on the forums. Usually "childish pvpers" dont use forums and mature discussions like this. But I can assure you that today's gaming community (in general) is more biased towrds PvP and MMO(MOBA or whatever includes pvp and all that...you know it very well I assume).
In about every MMO forum I've been to the PvP population is far more active in the forums than their size would indicate. If you look at WoW's forums you would think most players engage in PvP and organized raiding, whereas the reality is very different. In LotRO, a community manager even explained once how PvPers and raiders are over half the players in the forums while being less than 10% of the actual players.
Besides, arena PvP, like what is found in MOBAs, is completely different from the kind of random PvP you find in open. You can't use the popularity of arena PvP as an indication that players might be interested in the kind of PvP that open has; I, for example, love almost every kind of arena PvP (except, ironically, MOBAs), but can't stand the kind of PvP that open promotes.
Do you think those little trolls in Open even know ED has a forum??
Most players in every game don't participate in the forums, and ED is no exception. But PvPers, and players that otherwise want to play together with others, tend to find the forums far more often than the more lonely types.
Oh I'm RP all the way back to snail-mail PBM, but sadly PvP isn't about RP it's about payers attacking other players. Yes, many players add RP to it (or add PvP to RP), which is awesome, but it's a separate thing.
There's unfortunately the other side of the coin, where jerks use RP as an excuse for their actions because, as they argue, they are just roleplaying a jerk/sociopath/assassin/whatever. In this forum alone I've seen more than once players defending silent, random and unprovoked attacks under the argument that the attacker is just roleplaying a psychotic killer.
