Does anyone else hate the name "Elite Dangerous"?

'Elite Delta' ?

Delta would signify '4' (Greek numeral).
Also the progression of development has roughly been Alpha, Beta, Gamma and then full release (which would correspond with Delta).
The triangle which is another pictorial view of the number 4 in Greek could have been used as a border of sorts to encompass the wording/design of the title and shield logo.
And....a triangle is sort of a nod back to the earliest (simpler) designs of some ships in the previous classic games, and 'Delta' sounds 'fast' or 'speedy'. A hollow triangle is also a players view in the radar as another 'commander'?....so that's another 'link' to the actual game play.
.
Anyhow, take all this with a pinch of salt, because I woke up too early this morning, and to pass the time before 'sleepiness' kicked in again, I browsed the forum and came across this topic. :D
I can't see a name change for Elite Dangerous anytime soon if ever now though, I think the die's been cast, so 'Elite Dangerous' it's going to stay, at least until the Planet Expansion! :)
'
Goodnight all....I'm going back to bed! zzzzzzzzz :D
.
Jack :)

I think it depends on how dangerous the landings are and at present I don't see any atmospheric shielding so good luck.

Elite: Delta, I would say no Delta harks back to those cheesy Chuck Norris Delta Force movies where he wipes out a battalion of troops with a six shooter then if ya lucky reloads the gun.

If I am annoy about ED ... it's the lack of content on release ... and they call it release. The original

ED had more content than this on release day... but well of cos it's the 21st century people dont' work

as hard.

Not what I would have chosen, but being an original Elite player, I know where it comes from, so I'm OK with it.

P.S. I would have just called it Elite. Pretty sure there would have been little confusion with the 1984 one.

No offence intended, I'm just pointing something out:

When I hear some one (usually youngsters) use the word "Hate", it's usually being used incorrectly. "Hate" should be reserved for something like: "I hate the people who murdered my family and danced on their graves"

Life's to short to go around "hating" very minor issues. If you genuinely "hate" stuff of no consequence you are going to burn out.

I don't hate the name given to the old bird but
Why not just Elite ? Everyone buying it today would by now know that they won't get the game deliverd on a 5 1/4 Floppy.

Wait I have it.. Elite A new begining. Hmm sounds familiar.
Elite in caps ? (In medias that support caps)

1.
a. A group or class of persons considered to be superior to others because of their intelligence, social standing, or wealth: "Auguste Comte ... believed that in the age of science society should be ruled by an elite of scientists" (Lewis A. Coser).

b. A member of such a group: "Elites don't grant us [sociologists] interviews. They don't let us hang out at their country clubs" (Sudhir Venkatesh).

c. The best or most skilled members of a group: the elite of professional tennis.

2. A size of type on a typewriter, equal to 12 characters per linear inch.

Just Elite.. In caps

Well it was Elite Dangerous until they nurf the need for skill and common sense. Like reading Manual or using Tutorial before jumping into open play and getting wiped.

I think, but I may be wrong, that it was chosen because the rank needed to join the Elite Pilots' Federation recently (in game lore) dropped from Deadly to Dangerous. (That bit is apparently true but I don't know for sure that's why the name was chosen, I just read it somewhere, probably on this thread.)

http://elite-dangerous.wikia.com/wiki/Pilots_Federation

But no-one would know that from the title.

In one of the talks DBOBE detialed the title

Elite was named after the top rank

Elite 2: Frontier - The Expanding frontier of humanity/The new frontier

Frontier: First Encounters was a reference to the Thargoids

Elite: Dangerous Dangerous combat rank is when the Elite Pilots Federation give you the tap on the shoulder

I just Read it as
Elite; Chapter 1
Elite; Chapter 2 "The Frontier"
Elite; Chapter 3 "First Encounters"
Elite; Chapter 4 "Dangerous"

Thank you. I don't suppose that exists anywhere still?

I kinda liked the name until a few weeks ago.

Now i think they should call it Elite:Call support whenever you do something stupid and get all your credits and ship restored

Yes, I hate name. It makes zero sense. And yes, im aware of the backstory behind it, its terrible to.

I hate dislikers. Or dislike haters. Wait, it is confusing. O, the nuances...

Have nothing against the name. ED may be a somewhat unfortunate abbreviation indeed, but then again I work with SDTs which often get confused with STDs. "Dangerous" seems to have a nebulous fit in the Elite universe, while Frontier and First Encounters easier invoked associations with space, fringes of space, and the return of if not thargoids then at least their vessel(s).

That being said, the game does contain dangerous elements, whether it be neutron stars, station bottle necks, or those pesky other players.
