I'd like to be able to upload a jpeg or bitmap or something like that.
I've always liked this idea. The store could sell special picture frames/posters for your ship that would allow you to add our own pics. It could be pictures that only the player can see (family/friends/etc) on her/his PC, but everyone in-game would see a game-themed image (spaceship/alliance symbol/etc). Maybe we can submit images for FD's approval as well, and if it passes QA it might be added into the game proper.

I would think future expansions, decals, paraphanalia of sorts, perhaps even unique demilitirized ships with military equipment. Just a thought

Since noone else has mentioned it (except you) I'll just go out on a limb and say that we will probably be able to buy the game itself in the shop. Seems like a good idea.

I was just thinking....Okay...some time in the future....
'Just opened my "Elite Dangerous Universal Encyclopedia". it's got a lovely quality A4 ring bound cover. The cover has the Elite logo/emblem and wording emblazoned in gold on a midnight blue background (which is one of four other colours you can choose from btw.)'.
Inside the folder there are a number of sections that are designed to accommodate various instalments of ....*thinking*....say section 1 for example, which would contain information on ships design, specifications etc. printed on good quality paper, with full colour pictures and detailed descriptions of possible upgrades etc.
Section 2 would possibly have information on the known universe which would obviously depend on what was generally known at the time of the game's official release, or for another example, information regarding Space stations, or possibly some sections concerning general information of 'areas' in the universe, Sol, Alpha Centauri and Tau Ceti for example.
And so on....
Obviously some thought would be needed with releasing all aspects of content, as you wouldn't want to reveal too much information that would impact on the actual gameplay in a negative way.
As the game (hopefully) progresses in the future, more following on information can be added to the 'Encyclopedia' possibly on a monthly or quarterly basis.
You could even start with a 'volume one' which covered either a broad information format, or narrow it down to only one aspect, for example 'Transport & Travel' etc.
Obviously this idea smacks of 'subscription' in a magazine sense, which isn't everybody's cup of tea metaphorically speaking, but I just thought to mention it.
In a digital sense?....*shrugs*...I don't own an 'I' pad or Tablet etc. so I wouldn't know how it could work there.
Edit...As some magazines have already done, you could not only have hard copy info. to add to your 'encyclopedia', you could also have material enclosed in a 'pack' that enabled you to start to build an Iconic ship, like a Cobra MK111. Okay, the cost might be a bit high overall, but at least it could be spread out over a year or two, for example.
