I've decided to share a great trade route because it feels good!

OP asked you for your trade route prior to posting this thread?....

OP, I am assuming good intentions with no malicious motivations....but....has anyone considered this was never his route to begin with? That he got this route from someone, made a video and posted it

Pure speculation based off of a one-off comment...but...the implications....un...bearable....;)

It's not like he didn't know that posting routes was a bad idea anyway- complaining about his earning rates in this thread where the point was made clear loads of times on the same page:

https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=137032&p=2095246&viewfull=1#post2095246

Possibly means well, but doesn't think it through. Considered harmful, do not ingest.

He did not specifically ask for my route, but he was asking about trading tips and where my location was etc. I don't think he was malicious at the time, and I did consider using my route as an example (although I think better about it as I saw firsthand a guy tried helping another one struggling, only for the one being helped turn arounf and share the route 10 mins later here. Apparently the one being helped made an I quit statement a few hours beforehand and he was just out to wreck people's fun).

It just that seeing this thread I feel like I dodged a bullet (regardless of whether there was a shot being fired at me or not).

Well I only watched about 5 secs of the video. My comment still stands, when someone posts a route here it is all the big freighters that end up killing a route. And as mentioned, nothing from stopping me and my friends from using our Python's on this route.

No offense intended, man.
And yes, Pythons are an option; But many python owners can also afford a heavier trading ship, and that will yield more credits per round trip anyway. Also, many traders use 3rd party tools to find the routes, and the top routes will be found by all. The extra number of people seeing this route through this post is most likely not that large, or they are new enough to have smaller trade ships. But this is not even my point. My point is that here is a guy who is nice and wants to share his find to the community, and he gets trashed for it. Awesome.

You'd rather that everyone clapped like seals, and encouraged him to keep doing it? Curious.

You sir, are part of the reason this game/forum sucks. *claps like a seal at your childish remark, encouraging you to carry on being a troll.

"Curious!"

I am sorry to upset you. I came into elite thinking the community was friendly with the game giving you the freedom to do what ever you want. I guess I was wrong after reading some of these comments. From now on I am just going to keep things to myself. That's what is wrong in the real world. People just horde horde with greed! I guess in this day and age sharing is looked down upon.

Sad day.

I wasn't aiming that comment at you, but the guy "Ancipital" who I have quoted. I was defending you.

The road hell is paved with good intentions.

Fact of the matter is, some people jealously guard the trade routes they have invested their time into finding.

Spamming trade routes, whatever the intention, takes something away from their experience, they have a right to be upset.

It would be nice if they were polite about it, but this is the Internet, and polite is a relative term.

EDIT: Oh, and does posting the route still feel good? ;)

You did nothing wrong with your OP. A nice thing to do and you have an absolute right to share as you wish.

The fact that some others feel otherwise is their personal issue. I can understand why they might feel a little sore, but it's not that big a deal.
Don't be discouraged. Plenty of decent folks around.

On the other hand,if enough trade routes were shared, there would reach a saturation point where the entire community would benefit - no single route would be overworked. In theory, at least.

I think all the huff huff is because people don't want players dipping in their profits and want to keep free trade all to themselves.
There are games where this isn't an issue.

The X3 series comes to mind. Btw it's single player.

So, who else only clicked this to see if their money-maker was outed? XD
I was sweating bullets as the video loaded, but thankfully my route is still safe....for now...been working it for a month now with no fluctuation in price (infact its risen a few times!), would hate to see it dry up in the middle of my Type-7 grind. x.x
BUT if it does i'll move on and spend another week looking for another good route, as the cycle continues.

Last I checked you couldn't land a T9/Conda at an outpost, so I highly doubt this trade route will be ruined anytime soon. It's been a known quantity for months and is still going strong for the small to medium sized traders.

This.

So all the people bleating about ruining trade routes can wipe the egg off their face.

A python wont kill the route either.

Please, bring more people acting high and mighty. If it bothers you so much, grab a different ship, and go kill all the people you see landing at those stations in trade ships and pythons. Cutthroat galaxy.

I don't get it...

The game is public, the Forums are public - and everyone is free to share any Information. Without any restrictions. Period.
If you compare it to the publicly accessible Trade Finder Websites fed with crowd data - a posting like this one is basically a nice gesture and that's it.

Some Traders "guard" their favorite Trade Route like Gollum his treasure - others share instead.
Just like other Players act cooperative with others i.e. at a RES site - others rather engage and attempt to destroy the potential "Kill stealer".

It's all in the Game...

PS.
Maybe it's a sign of our times :

People posting Videos of them doing bad things get cheered to.
People posting Videos to help and share with others get bashed.

It's a strange world we live in. Seemingly overrun by individual greed and egoism. Luckily it's not sustainable and will devour itself eventually.

Oh and so much this. +rep for a insightful post that mirrors my own feelings.

I guess for some people their world revolves around how big a cheese they think they are in a video game grinding back and forwards between stations....

I need to clarify my original post. I agree with OP. It was a nice gesture. And I even repped him for it because I feel that it was cool. It prob helped people out. Its just that I also agree with some others as well because I know what its like to have your "gem" wrecked from an outside influence. Mine was from a community goal. I have a clipper, but thats the biggest cargo hold I have besides a T6. I really only just started trading and my trade run was great (for me) getting 12-1300 each way, only 2 jumps back and forth.

If the OP could guarentee no one else was using that as a primary trade run, then of course, no harm no foul his choice. And even if others use it, its still OPs choice. Its just that it really does suck to have a "gem" whether combat, mining, exploration that you found and all of a sudden within hours the run dries up only to find that someone broadcasted it. Its a lose-lose situation. OP gets bashed for it, other "owners" have to pick up and move, and the gold rushers end up moving on anyways.

OP, I applaud you and you are free to post the route or routes that you want in here for whoever wants to see them. See, there is already a 71 stop route with rares, there is another called the Silk, and there are others as well, yours not being the first.

Besides that, is not breaking the rule. And those people guarding they preferred route, how is this worse than SLOPEY's BPC and THRUDD's that share THOUSANDS of routes a day with THOUSANDS of people????

I almost lost a civil war because a route involving opposing NPC faction Station, was published in one of those. All of a sudden an influx of players of nowhere started to positively add influence to their cause while I was grinding the combat zones....

My point being that routes sharing messes up things...yes...but or you deal about it, or you have to consistently fight the dispersion of information. Go on now and try closing Slopey's or Thrudds, see how it goes...

Take it like a cmdr and move on to another route.
